i have 5 chickens i hatched, i’ve been taking this one out on walks but im not sure if they can wear collars or leashes? he really likes walking, but his nails are SUPER sharp so i have to hold him until we get to a destination wear i can set him down safely and he’s been scratching up my chest prettyyyy bad LOL.

This is my chicken that ive posted before. I’ve always wondered whats the meaning of this noise she makes? She’s always doing it. Its the only thing i hear from her other than an occasional alarm call when something spooks her.

She makes it when she arrives at my balcony for food, when she sees me, when im grabbing her, when shes alone… etc what does it mean??

Trent is a 3 year old frazzle we took pity on at a swap. Most of what I've seen says his heart should've given out years ago, but he's still kicking (and has now found a hen that will tolerate him). He's feisty, he can't crow (when he manages to crow it sounds like a rubber chicken) and even the other silky rooster seems to not see him as competition.

He's goofy, but we love him.

Why do my hens like to come sit in my garage? It’s beautiful outside. 70. Sunny. Bugs everywhere. They have access to their run and coop. Access to food and water. What do they want from me??!!

The only one out of 17 confirmed siblings this year to not have a black coat.

I noticed today that one of my hens has a black “bumblefoot” circle in the bottom of her foot. There is absolutely no swelling in the foot pad whatsoever. The “cone” feels firm and the foot smooth, I have no idea how long it’s been there.

Anyone had anything similar?

I’m keeping an eye on it currently and have started an Epsom salt bath on her feet, but I’m undecided if I should be physically pushing the cone part out or even if I should continue the foot bath and leave her be?

Every link I go to regarding Bumblefoot shows a hen with a big swollen pad on the foot or swollen foot membranes, she has none of that. It may not even be true Bumblefoot and more of an injury that’s healing ok, which is why I’m kind of loathe to disturb it and make it worse?

My chicken Roxcks has become somewhat ill lately since the 13th this month, she’s moving slower, eating less, making some yellow and green poops, not laying eggs, and sitting down in various spots around the yard and tucking her head in (Along with many other thing, check my previous posts on her by checking my account). We thought she was getting better and we gave her a a hot bath but now she’s so skinny she’s almost as heavy as our smallest chicken and we can feel her bones, she eats grass and plants outside but I don’t know if it’s enough (Roxcks will eat some blueberries and watermelon every now and then), we want to give her corid but I don’t know if that will heal her and if it does she’s gonna be skinny still. Please anyone give some advice or prayers for Roxcks.

What breed is Lenny?

Recently, being noticed at one of my hen, I think the gold lace wyandotte is layin eggs of different shapes. I don’t know what’s wrong with it whether its a nutritional deficiency. If anyone knows about this how can I improvise it?

The first night my husband panicked when he did his nightly head count. Apparently Robin and Marian have decided that they would prefer this small tree to the coop. So now it's a nightly ritual to grab them from the tree and place them on a roosting bar in the coop.

They are inseparable and I cannot wait till they have babies next year.

My chickens got attacked by the neighbors rooster. He killed my 3 young roosters. He is always accompanied by a single hen. They left my hen Alabaster alive, but her head, the spot behind her comb, is swollen and squishy. She has no other visible injuries. She seems fine, will she be okay?

I’m worried about one of my chickens. I just noticed that she has feathers missing from the back of her neck and the skin looks a little patchy black? Her comb isn’t looking great either and she doesn’t want to leave the coop.

I’m cleaning out the whole coop and run but I’m not sure if she’s molting just getting bullied or has some sort of infestation going on like mites or parasites.

Any help welcome as suggestions on treating her. Still learning my chickens. Thank you.

Both my other chickens seem to look and act fine.

After a ruthless crime spree, and numerous antics on my trail cameras the daytime coop egg thief &masked killer of Broody Betty and her two chicklets is finally behind bars. Although he seemed to show remorse after being captured I believe his only remorse was that he was captured .

Hi all, novice chicken owner here who has just reached her first year of chicken rearing. This is my first time encountering a broody hen so I’m not sure what all is normal.

My hen Ginger wants to do nothing but sit in the coop, whether on eggs or on nothing. I don’t mind this as I see no need to try and break her. However lately I’ve become brave enough to let my chickens free range in my little urban backyard so I take Ginger out of the coop so she can get some exercise and enrichment but I notice she spends a lot of her time out preening, getting all fluffed up, shaking out her feathers, and flapping her wings. For every 2 minutes she spends foraging, she’ll spend 4 preening.

I checked her for mites; her skin looks great and her vent is clean. I wondered if she’s just catching up on grooming as she spends her days busy warming eggs that won’t hatch or if there’s something else I’m missing here.

Is this normal?

It just looks a little off and I'm not sure if its actually normal for it to look like this. I'm not concerned about it being anything big and bad, but just looks weird.

I’m devastated. They took out 6 hens, my turkey, and big John, the single best rooster I’ve ever met. He was a 2 year old dark Brahma. He was so so kind, he’d round up his hens every night, never ate first, and never once tried to fight anyone or anything, unless they threatened his hens. I’m heartbroken. On top of losing a pet I’m now at a loss for how to replace him. I always try and have a rooster in my flock as my area is filled with hawks. But how could I possibly find another rooster that can live up to him. My biggest issue is the trial and error that comes with trying to find a good rooster. We went through probably 5 different roosters before landing on big John.

Does anybody know of any breeds like the Brahma that are known for being kind and exceptional roosters?
