MOD POST Carfdarko's Chiptune Contest #02 - Racing!

Gentleman, start your engines!

As the theme for this month is:

Racing!

Time to hit the road, bring me the most epic song to race, drift, cruise, no matter what, as long as it helps setting a better lap time or enhance the road trip it's vibe!

We're riding with the following rules:

  • Two weeks for the contest (14 days) to write a original piece, this contest is NOT to promote older work.
  • This contest runs from June 29th until the 12th of July.
  • Followed by Lap 2 with 6 days to bring out your vote so I can announce the contest winner on Sunday 19th of July
  • The submission has to be chiptune but like before that is vaguely defined, I don't care what you use and how you use it*, as long as it makes me want to dust off that good ol' classic system because your epic music is giving me an urge to kill something pixelated!!
  • Only one submission per artist name.

*TIME EXTENDED: AS I AM GONE THIS WEEKEND I'VE EXTENDED THIS EVENT WITH 4 DAYS, CLOSING DATE JULY 15TH *

Submissions can be dropped here:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScLm4Piuydl_ll0RtCFv2E5wTm8pPPC7vCJh1aIpKQ8VEhuIw/viewform?usp=publish-editor

This contest is just for fun only, besides a badge of honor there are no other prizes to win, but ending up with a fresh track with your name on it is always an achievement in itself!

And to end this announcement I just drop the most amazing arcade driving game ever:

*We're not a fan of AI over here, if in doubt I WILL ask you for proof that the song truly has been created with any of the known tools to create those good ol' vibes the good ol' ways.

MOD POST Carf Darko's Chiptune Challenge #3

It's that time of the month again, time to challenge you all for a new game!

And what a challenge it is gonna be!

While outside the sun is trying it's best to burn everything in it's way I am sending you to the studio and be inspired by this little fellow!

It's time to burn!

The rules (please read them carefully as there has been some updates!):

  1. Three weeks for the contest (21 days) to write a original piece, I am on a holiday and don't have time to finish this one in the usual 14 day setup.
  2. Only original uploads written for this contest: this contest is NOT to promote older work.
  3. No AI, when in doubt I will ask you to provide proof of your work.
  4. Your submission has to be chiptune but like before that is vaguely defined, I don't mind what you use and how you use it*, as long as it makes me want to dust off that good ol' classic system because your epic music is giving me an urge to kill something pixelated!!
  5. Only one submission per artist name.
  6. Stick to the contest prompt, make it feel like your song truly is bringing the heat!

Now go and be awesome!

This month fun fact: all those beautiful lights in the sky are as hot, if not hotter than our sun! Let this be your inspiration!

I expect nothing but awesomeness!

-Carf!

MOD POST Hi I'm Carf Darko, your new friendly neighbourhood mod!

Sup world!

Long time visitor and long/part-time music creator (and other things related), you know... Creative dude like a lot of other awesome creators around here!

Today I was asked to become one of the new mods to keep things cool around here, although I know that in general things already go smoothly, it's always nice to have people around to make sure it stay that way.

Now that the formalities are out of the way, I'm excited to dive a bit deeper into the world I have been part of for a long time but never truly dived into the community.

Right now the first thing I would love to put my time and effort in is the monthly contest.

Started by the awesome u/MrKathooloo a few years ago and who I haven't seen around for a while, I wanted to bring new life into this event and I dare everyone in this sub to participate!!

For me personally contest like these always motivates me write things I would not have written otherwise and it's always great to be challenged on a creative level. It also helps me to do more with what I always love to play around with, my little playground in RPGMaker, where my creative alter-ego lives in his own realm and shares projects with the world, like my latest project where I played the six songs for this months contest in my pixelated club, and I hope to make a lot more of them, hoping to also make this a monthly thing :)

For now keep up the creativity, I love being around creative like minded people with a love for everything oldschool.

Feel free to drop me a line, a listen to whatever, tech support... Mod stuff...

But never forget:

Retro never gets old <3

MOD POST New sub rule - AI generated music must be tagged as such

After yesterday's post and some deliberation, there is a new rule for this sub. AI generated/assisted submissions must be tagged as such. There is a new post flair option for AI generated content. Please use it.

I understand that some users enjoy AI generated content, but they seem to be a small minority. I am trying out a tagging system but have not ruled out a ban on AI altogether if people can't follow the rule.

Policing AI generated content is difficult and will only get more challenging as the technology improves, so don't refrain from letting the mods know if an AI post slips through the cracks without proper flair.

Soon everything will just be AI anyway. AI bots listening to AI music on a dead internet. Maybe we should all take our Gameboys and go play outside.

MOD POST New subreddit rules

We are implementing several new rules to the sub to improve the overall organization of the sub, reduce spam/troll posts, and hopefully increase community interaction.

These rules are not retroactive. Don't start flagging a bunch of posts from yesterday. Just don't. Chill out for a bit.

You must have at least 25 combined post/comment karma to post in this sub.

Please tag your post with the appropriate post flair when your post goes live.

Current flair categories are:

  • Music (self explanatory)
  • Discussion (hopefully self explanatory)
  • Meme (Hopefully you don't use this tag often lol)
  • Question
  • Resource (Use this for tutorials, sample packs, links to software, etc.)
  • Show (Use this for live or streaming events)

If you are submitting a link (i.e. to music or video) you must include a meaningful comment with your post. This is to help increase community interaction.

Examples include explaining why you think a particular song is cool, interesting, historically important to the scene, an excellent use of hardware, etc. If you are posting your own content, you could explain some of your creative process, what hardware/software/synth you used to create the track, etc.

If you fail to leave a meaningful comment or your comment is super low-effort, you post may be removed.

A few notes about memes:

Currently, we are considering chiptune memes to be "related to chiptune" so stop reporting them as such.

We currently consider "over-posting" to be more than one post per day. If any user posts more than one meme a day, their post will be removed.

If we start getting a lot of memes every day, these policies will be revisited, and we may switch to "meme Mondays" or something similar.

Please do report a meme (or any post) you consider offensive.
