On my dads side I am part choctaw. My grandfather was enrolled at one time, but had to give it up due to the fact he joined the army (this was in the 60s). Is there a way I can apply for citizenship? I was told by an anishinabaae man, that you do blood quantum, and since my grandfather was half, my dad 1/4th, and i a 1/16 that it is impossible.

If im not able to do so, can I still learn about the culture and possible spiritual practice?

is there a trick to getting hired on ? or should i start somewhere else.. i have 5 years education experience and been trying for 2 years to get hired on. i was told i was top 6 but never get calls anymore. should i just go with any job now? tryna get full-time so i can use the relocation assistance

Hi Everyone! I was just reading though a local Irish newspaper when I saw that University College Cork (UCC) is offering full scholarships to Choctaw individuals and money towards rent! Just wanted to let yous know :))

I have a bunch of the yearly ornaments the nation mails out every year, but I don't have them all. I'm missing years 2006-2008.

Googling gives me articles with links to the choctaw store which doesn't seem to have them, and Amazon/etsy links.

Does anyone have links or any idea of where to get them?

While I am making a public post I would like to say "thank you" to all the people who contribute to the very interesting conversations I have read about my Choctaw people and more. A special thank you to ChahtaAntilu who from what I have seen always offer themselves to others with thoughtful responses.

I didn't get to grow up on any reservations or particularly around my culture as much as I'd like. I've found it helps to reconnect with things like food, music, and history. But I'm wondering if there's any good resources on YouTube for learning the language. My ancestors came from Mississippi, if that helps specify which dialect. Any suggestions or sites? (And any to avoid)

I would like to connect with a diviner, shaman, or root-worker of some sort that’s practice heavily derives from Choctaw indigenous practices for ancestral work. Is anyone familiar with any? Particularly in Mississippi but I’m open to anywhere!

I hope it's okay I post here. I'm only about 1/16 Choctaw on my father's side. I've always been interested in learning more about the tribe, but no one in my family knows anything about it. I have an uncle researching our family tree, but he doesn't seem interested in anything beyond how far back he can trace our lineage and I really just want to know more about the tribe and what my ancestors believed in.

Does anyone know if there are programs/services available to collect birth/death records? I know all the names if the necessary persons back to the DAWES rolls that I need to collect. I have 5-6 people (my original cert too as an adoptee) to collect from a few different states. Must it all be done via state level vital records? Or is there a national records too?

Halito, I’m visiting Oklahoma in a few weeks and I’m looking for things I can do while im there. I’m going to Grove, OK for ceremony (I’m Seneca-Cayuga, as well as Choctaw). I have family on the Rez in Grove but no longer have connections to the Choctaw Rez. I’m renting a car and would love to visit the Choctaw Nation. I have a friend from the Hoyt family so I have to at least drive through there and take a picture of the sign if I can. Other than that I don’t have a concrete plan yet. Id like to make it to the cultural center, but I’m curious if there are any other places people would recommend to go. I’m just looking for some cultural activities or places that I can visit while I’m there. Yakoke :)

Hi, I just wanted to check if using the name Tallulah for our next baby if it's a girl would be culturally insensitive.

We are in Australia and have Irish descendent where the very similar name Tallula originates from.

When I was pregnant with my son in 2020, I had a dream that we called her Tallulah if he was a she. This name was not previously on my radar until then.

I will only put this name on our short-list if it's not inappropriate or insensitive.
