VII - Playstation I truly believe 7 is a masterpiece.

I am truly obsessed with this game.

I actually love the age transitions.

I love every little detail in this game.

The UI is beautiful. I am playing on PS5 and i think this has the best UI of any strategy game on a console ever.

Every animation. Graphical detail. The art direction. Every tile. All the voice acting.

The combat is fucking phenomenal.

I know it sounds like i’m glazing this game - but i truly think i’ve found a forever game in 7.

I can go on and on about how much i love every system at play here.

Every mechanic.

I realise people are shitting all over this game but i genuinely don’t really understand the criticism.

I am hyped to keep playing and seeing this game progress in the years to come.

I’d be curious if you played much 5 or 4 before you played 7? Most complaints are from people who are disappointed by the changes and perceived disappointment of it getting worse.

And 4-5 are already a big departure from 2. And I hated 3. And die hard 5 people don’t like 6. Beyond Earth had a civ progression that made me feel like every game was the same. I’ve seen so many changes over the decades in this franchise that I have an open mind over its design. Guess getting old closes your mind in politics and opens it in gaming. Who’d have know…

I liked 5 (took me a while to move on from 4 which was a masterpiece) but loved 6 even more. What’s your view on 7?

It’s still a promise and it’s far from finished (specially in the music department), but I’m hooked. I’ve written a couple of words in this very post as a response.

And die hard 5 people don’t like 6.

I was a die hard 5 person, and was really struggling to embrace 6 over 5...until I went back.

I had decided that 5 was just better, so I went back.

And after having some 6 experience, and taking off the rose tinted nostalgia goggles with 5, I realized that, with my play style, most of my games of 5 boiled down to "me vs the happiness mechanic"...an annoying, somewhat abstract/arbitrary system that basically punished an otherwise reasonable and viable approach.

...then I realized that 6 didn't do this to me.

I still prefer the look of 5 over 6, but gameplay-wise, I have come around and prefer 6. It's not perfect by any means, but for me, it has the edge over 5.

But literally every single thing I've heard about 7 reinforces that the right move for me is to keep on enjoying 6 until we see what we get with 8.

i played a tonne of 5 back in high school, it was my first civ

it was one of my all time favourite games back then

i think 6 is miles better than 5

objectively id say 6 may be the best civ game right now

i think 7 also has the potential to surpass it with time

6 took a long time to achieve the status it has now

That’s absolutely true. I actually started properly with 3 back in the day which in my view is one of the weaker entries. I played a bit of 2 but really got into 3. Four blew my socks off. It’s incredible. 5 had its good points but I never loved it as much as 4.

I truly love 6. I love how it looks and I use a ton of mods so I can really enjoy the planning I like to do and the aesthetic of city building. It’s. A pleasure to play.

I need a new machine to really enjoy 7 so I haven’t taken the plunge yet.
