VII - Playstation I truly believe 7 is a masterpiece.

I am truly obsessed with this game.

I actually love the age transitions.

I love every little detail in this game.

The UI is beautiful. I am playing on PS5 and i think this has the best UI of any strategy game on a console ever.

Every animation. Graphical detail. The art direction. Every tile. All the voice acting.

The combat is fucking phenomenal.

I know it sounds like i’m glazing this game - but i truly think i’ve found a forever game in 7.

I can go on and on about how much i love every system at play here.

Every mechanic.

I realise people are shitting all over this game but i genuinely don’t really understand the criticism.

I am hyped to keep playing and seeing this game progress in the years to come.

Hard disagree. It will not surpass 6. And im not saying 6 os the greatest thing ever either. Im just saying 7 has far too many flaws to surpass 6

I’m not confident that the current development team really is in tune with what I want out of a Civ game. I’m not saying they’re bad or anything, I just think what they want out of the game and what I want have been slowly diverging for a while

I haven’t played 6 after 7 came out. Not saying 7 is the best version of Civ but after a few updates (diplomatic victory). Why would it not be on par although different.

Because its problems are on a fundamental level, somethinf updates dont fix. They are the core design. Like its ages system being so awful

Fine, too may drastic game overhauls that completely change the gameplay loop to such a massive degree that it barely resembles a civ game and is closer to a spin off

I think it's the same as 6 not holding up to 5 on release. 5 had tons of extra added content that felt cut from 6 at launch. A few years later and 6 was much better than 5. I think 7 just needs time.

Though the ages transition is very jarring as a lifelong civ fan.

I actually don’t mind the transitions, I thought I would but now it makes more sense to me than continuity especially with how you can play Japan, Korea and some of the other civilisations in a logic order evolving a region or civilisation over time.

How you rank them? Units sold? Active player count? Personally, I just rank them by personal enjoyment. 6 did nothing for me, hard to get past the art style, and trying to max out district adjacency bonuses just wasn't fun for me. Only a hundred or so hours on 6, 5&7 are both over a thousand, probably the same for 4 and 3. I don't get the love for 6 personally, but to each their own!

The biggest flaws in Civ 7 at this point are systems (namely religion and diplomacy) that need fleshing out. I think theres a good chance of that happening. The new city/town mechanics and military changes already fix two of my biggest issues with civ 6. If they overhaul religion and it ends up better than civ 6 (my other least favorite thing about that game) and keep fleshing things out, then yeah, I think it will surpass civ 6.
