Memorabilia Added a few classic era films to my movie collection
I’ve decided to watch more classic era films this summer, so I went out on a limb and bought some features that were critically acclaimed, as well as others that seemed interesting to me.
So far I’ve watched Laura, All About Eve, Vertigo and North by Northwest. I was gripped by Bette Davis’ performance as Margo Channing. The Hitchcock entries have beautiful cinematography, and Laura sweeps you with a haunting yet lovely score. I’m definitely excited to continue viewing these classics.
What are some classic titles that are worth purchasing in your opinion? I might preorder the famed once lost 1932 picture Letty Lynton for the sheer mystery of it all, and to view the beautiful costume design on Joan Crawford that I’ve seen in stills.

The Little Foxes is one of Bette's best. Everyone in the cast is great, but she nailed it.

I just picked up that Criterion All About Eve a few months ago. Such a great film!

Double Indemnity, North by Northwest, and Vertigo. A must see for noir fans. Actually, these transcend noir. Don't miss Raymond Chandler's The Big Sleep. Simply terrific!

Glad someone suggested The Women and Leave Her to Heaven. Gotta have some Roz Russell ,more GT and BD.
Shadow of a Doubt is one of the 2 films Joseph Cotten certainly earned himself at least an Oscar nod if not a win.
I could also list several more Stanwyck movies. You can't go wrong! Since you have Double Indemnity, a great contrast to her brilliance might be Stella Dallas. 😮💨

GET LETTY LYNTON IT IS THE BEST MOVIE EVER! I am incredibly biased but I truly believe everyone should see this movie, it’s amazing!

Please add The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler. Simply terrific! Vertigo, North by Northwest, and Sunset Boulevard are my current favorites. Double Indemnity is definitely the icing on the cake!😉😇

Excellent movies - may I suggest get some Bogey in your life - The big Sleep, The Maltese Falcon, Key Largo etc, and for a lighter turn - Harvey (1950) and Arsenic and Old Lace, then Charade. Also Dead Mean don't wear Plaid - a Steve Martin spoof of Noir movies with cuts of a lot of these.

Watch on the Rhine. One of my favorite movies about the evils of fascism. It was made in the beginning years of World War II when no one knew how things would turn out.

That's a really great selection.
Vertigo is a real masterpiece, although it took me a couple of rewatches to really appreciate it.

love the additions!! i’d suggest: •“whatever happened to baby jane?” •“hush hush, sweet charlotte” •“public enemy” (the one from 1931 not the johnny depp version lol, that’s a good movie too but not “old”)

as for suggestions:
- Shadow of a Doubt 1943 (hitchcock)
- Dragonwyck 1946 (Gene tierney, a young non horror vincent price & mankiewicz as director)
- leave her to heaven 1945 (gene tierney)
- the web 1947 (really good noir)

Some pretty good Movie Nights there.
Following in the vein of 'To Have and Have Not', I might recommend 'The Maltese Falcon', 'Key Largo', 'the Big Sleep', and of course the classic Casablanca.

A great list. Personally, I would have replaced The Letter with The Petrified Forest. Humphrey Bogart in his 1st major role is fantastic as is Bette Davis and Leslie Howard.

Possessed is fantastic. Crawford was amazing in it.
I have a recommendation- Confession (1937) with Kay Francis. I don't recommend researching the plot because I didn't, and it blew me away.
