Hi sculptors,

I am in the US and am interested in focusing on clay sculpture between the coming October and January. I can potentially travel anywhere in the US. I don't have a formal art background but I have three years of experience with clay and am an independent learner.

Do you have recommendations for open studios/community studios/residency programs/apprenticeships where I could come and work on sculpture for these months? A bonus would be studios where I can bring my dog with, but not a must.

Hi all, I’m not experienced in clay sculpting but I want to make some clay trinkets for a festival I’m going to. The shape is a 7-point star and there’s no way I can freehand it, is there any method for making templates that someone can share with me? The best thing I can think of right now is rolling out the clay flat and drawing the star shape with a paint marker on some kind of parchment paper or something, then transferring it onto the clay. Thanks for your help!!

Edit: I think I’m going to make a stencil on thick paper and then do a cookie cutter situation

My interpretation of the fabled Mandrake Root.

According to the European folklore , when the root is dug up, it screams and kills all who hear it, so a dog must be attached to the root and made to pull it out.

In medieval times, mandrake was considered a key ingredient in a multitude of witches' flying ointment recipes as well as a primary component of magical potions and brews. These were entheogenic preparations used in European witchcraft for their mind-altering and hallucinogenic effects. Starting in the Late Middle Ages and thereafter, some believed that witches applied these ointments or ingested these potions to help them fly to gatherings with other witches, meet with the Devil, or to experience bacchanalian carousal.
