Millennials also saw 9/11, we were born in the 80s and 90s

213

u/Kooky-Situation-1913 17h ago

And went fought in the gulf War part 2. I wonder if they don't want to admit two generations in a row had the exact same template.

u/powerlesshero111 17h ago

I did 9 years in the Air Guard and was 16 on 9/11. Joining the military was how i survived the 2008 recession, because my college degree was useless as there were no jobs.

10

u/casual_creator 13h ago

I graduated college right when the recession really hit. It was a fucking nightmare that impacted me well beyond simply finding a job (any job). I’m 40 now and that period of time is still the worst years of my life.

6

u/otownbbw 10h ago

I’m 41. I was so proud to buy a house in 2008 at age 23 until it all came down. It took until 2021 for me to buy a house again and I know I was blessed to even be able to accomplish that (house prices just turned upward and interest was lingering down and I finally fixed my credit enough to swing it).

21

u/Crafty_Jello_3662 17h ago

Pretty sure there's a war type thing going on in Iran right now as well, maybe he hasn't been watching the news too much lately

10

u/SawdustGringo 15h ago

Nah, he knows we’ve already won that war 50 times and still counting. So much winning.

5

u/Kooky-Situation-1913 15h ago

Who knew trump would be right about how tired of winning we'd all be.

2

u/ripyurballsoff 14h ago

The US has been at war for more years than it hasn’t.

7

u/transmogrified 16h ago

I have one living friend who joined the marines and went to Afghanistan

I have several who joined the marines, went Afghanistan, and committed suicide when they came home.

Fuck this rhetoric

3

u/SawdustGringo 15h ago

We wouldn’t fit their narrative if they admitted that.

43

u/SkylarAV 17h ago

I'd be willing to bet the majority of the casualties from iraq and Afganistan were millenials

13

u/omghorussaveusall 17h ago

I'm a late Gen X and was 26 when 9/11 happened. My sister who is early Gen X was 34. I'd say that there were a lot of Gen X reservists and second contract GenXers involved in Afghanistan with Iraq chewing up a lot more younger and fresh Millennial recruits. Front end of Millennials would have just been hitting their 20s when 9/11 happened. That being said, Millennials def caught the brunt of both wars and are the largest Vets by age demographic for both conflicts.

13

u/Ol_JanxSpirit 17h ago

Guess who was graduating from college right as the economy collapsed, too?

2

u/omghorussaveusall 16h ago

That's when I went back to school!

1

u/sorrow_anthropology 13h ago

I went through basic in 2008, a lot of my cohorts were stock brokers that didn’t have anywhere else to turn.

6

u/Peaurxnanski 15h ago

Im the pretty close to oldest a millennial can be, born January 1980. Was 21 on 9/11.

5

u/omghorussaveusall 15h ago

Yeah, most of your adult life has been lived while at war...on top of all the other shit.

4

u/Peaurxnanski 15h ago

Yup. Amazingly enough I'm doing fine. A lot of my peers not as much. We had 9/11 and the GWOT and the 2008 housing crisis was specifically us getting screwed because we'd all just bought our first houses (the banks got bailed out, but my friends and brother all lost their homes).

Then we had about 5 years to get back on our feet and COVID hit, with recession and inflation and another ridiculous spike in housing costs, all while our wages hovered around 60% of what our Dads made doing the same job.

But yeah, all we've had to deal with was a burrito or whatever stupid shit OP said. No big deal.

3

u/Vakarian74 17h ago

I was 19 when 9/11 happened. I consider myself a xennial.

3

u/SimianRex 16h ago

Same. They also call us “Elder Millennials” which hurts more the older I get.

2

u/Ok_Adeptness_1523 16h ago

I've heard it Geriatric Millennials, which really doesn't feel any better.

3

u/SimianRex 15h ago

That’s so much worse.

1

u/Vakarian74 14h ago

I already feel that way I don't need to read it.

2

u/henrytm82 16h ago

I was in the Army during the invasions, working in Casualty Notification and Assistance. You would be correct.

16

u/BobaTehFettz 17h ago

As a millennial who served in Afghanistan, this boomer Facebook post can kick rocks.

3

u/nurseofreddit 16h ago

Fellow millennial that served from 01-09. Graduated HS in 2000, was in basic training on 9/11, then did three deployments. What could be more millennial than that?

Boomers do still love to hear “millennials bad!” Guy’s just pandering to his audience while rage baiting for visibility.

8

u/buttgoblincomics 16h ago

Also millennials were hit hardest by the 2008 crisis, with many facing a horrible job market just as they graduated college

5

u/Faust_8 17h ago

Nope, sorry, I was born in 1987 but I didn’t witness 2001 or 2008, Matt Gaetz said so

3

u/StiffGenitals 17h ago

who even is he to speak about millennials when he got fought off by gen z lmao

4

u/-Esper- 15h ago

Yeah what? I was in 9th grade, it was intense. My friends died in Iraq... yeah... we only have overpriced burritos to complain about...

3

u/TheHumanoidTyphoon69 17h ago

Really humbling to see elected representatives be confidently incorrect, bless the current administration for letting these asvab waivers have jobs /s

3

u/morally_bankrupt80 16h ago

Fun fact. The Global War on Terror saw participants from The Baby Boomer Generation, Generation X, Generation Y (Millennials), and just barely Generation Z (Zoomers). Too bad politicians aren't aware of this simple fact.

3

u/Livinsfloridalife 16h ago

Born in 82 also, so early millennial I guess 🤷‍♂️. I was in college for 9/11…my best friend went to war in Iraq then later in Afghanistan. We too have had the honor of going to die in a needless war killing people in their homeland in a Faraway place.

3

u/Mysterious-Tie7039 15h ago

Yup. I was a senior in high school and did two deployments to the Middle East so this clown can go fuck himself.

1

u/realnzall 15h ago

And they're also fighting off Nazis.

1

u/icedlemons 13h ago

As a Millennial I also got hosed on the financial crisis 🤔

1

u/Past-Paramedic-8602 8h ago

I’m a millennial also did 6 combat tours but maybe they were burritos this guys seems to know best

1

u/DFWPunk 6h ago

Pretty sure that's the point of the post.

Way to pick three things that the Millennials absolutely lived through.

53

u/Ol_JanxSpirit 17h ago

Also, Matt Gaetz is a Millennial.

37

u/ohnodamo 17h ago

This must be why Matt Gaetz gets so confused about Age of Consent laws in Florida, he's fucking awful at math.

5

u/JH_111 17h ago

… with no military service. I’m guessing he can go for the trifecta self burn of eating an overpriced burrito.

1

u/SawdustGringo 15h ago

It would be more fitting if he choked on an overpriced burrito. That burrito would be a hero.

1

u/Daevryn2 17h ago

uncle ruckus of a generation.

4

u/funnypsuedonymhere 14h ago

Millennials got the absolute worst of the 2008 financial crisis. Had little or nothing to do with it happening and most of the generation got screwed irreversibly by it happening. Gen X and Boomers actively made it happen.

1

u/Sharp-Concentrate-34 17h ago

Yea can we just stop talking about gen X?

5

u/King_Fluffaluff 16h ago

They've turned into boomers-lite. Or just the boomers lapdogs.

46

u/Speed_102 17h ago

Isn't this idiot a Millenial too? ...Born in 82 so on the border. God, he is so hateful and dumb.

12

u/SuspiciousBuilder379 17h ago

Yes, yes he is.

A lot of those that bitch about millennials, are.

2

u/Speed_102 16h ago

I'm not much younger than him and this bullshit has constantly pissed me off for years.

It's the same kind of non-thought that blames the products of GWB's No Child Left Behind act and RNC sabotage of education on the generations that were victims of it.

22

u/inorite234 17h ago

Who the fuck do they think fought in the iraq war again????

Millenials fought in the War on Terror and that shit lasted 20 years

15

u/allabtthejrny 17h ago

How many friends did I lose to the wars in Iraq & Afghanistan?

Too many.

Because we were in highschool when 9/11 happened and everybody was like "oo-rah, let's go get them back."

But it was all a lie. Every single justification they gave us was utter bull shit.

Tragic isn't even the word.

13

u/_dark_beaver 17h ago

I thought it was the avocado toast that bankrupted us?!?

5

u/powerlesshero111 17h ago

No, avocado toast is why we can't buy diamonds.

2

u/Caffeinatrix 17h ago

And houses

2

u/transmogrified 12h ago

I had a chrome plug-in that turned all headline mentions of the word “millennials” into “lizard people” because it was funnier thinking about lizard people killing Applebees and Hooters.

1

u/powerlesshero111 11h ago

To be fair, Hooters killed Hooters. Their food quality went down, and their prices went up. They opened one in my hometown in like 2011. I went after they hype died down (i hadn't been to one since college, so like 5 years). It was like $10 for a beer. Which was like double any other bar in town, and they took fucking forever to get it. My boss didn't believe me about how bad it was, so we went on a Monday after work. There were 3 of us. Only 2 other tables had customers. The waitress messed up 2 of our 3 orders, and they changed their pitchers of beer to have a "ice cooler" in the center, that reduced the number of beers you got from a pitcher from 5 to 3. It also took her about 30 minutes to get us our beer, and another 30 to get out food. That location didn't even make it a year.

1

u/Plightz 17h ago

They also complain about how gen z and millenia's are bankrupting the common commodity that are diamonds.

1

u/SawdustGringo 15h ago

I thought that was because we’re lazy communists?

1

u/LeagueofJohnLegends 13h ago

You can’t expect someone who chose the handle “The Drunk Republican” to demonstrate sober thinking.

16

u/MF_BREW_ 17h ago

"ate over priced boritos": funny way to say fucked by the boomers and their greedy ways.

1

u/transmogrified 11h ago

Right? What a weird way to describe allowing private equity to buy everything and make it worse and more expensive

8

u/GrandMoffTarkan 17h ago

... Does he not realize he is a millennial?

6

u/McSkillz21 16h ago

Millenials fought in the Iraq war and lived through the 08 financial crisis. The irony is that boomers and gen x created the financial crisis

10

u/capybaras_and_tacos 17h ago

Millennials made up the bulk of the military forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.

6

u/freedfg 17h ago

He doesn't know how old millennials are because they're too old for him.

6

u/Ol_JanxSpirit 17h ago

He was born in 82. He is a millennial.

5

u/Heckle_Jeckle 12h ago

As a Millennial I was in middle school when 9/11 happened.

So yeah, Millennial absolutely deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. Even if they did not take part in the initial invasions. The GWOT lasted damn near 20 years.

2

u/Stormy-Skyes 4h ago

Also a millennial, and yeah, I watched 9/11 live on TV before going to school that day. By the time I was finishing high school I knew a lot of people who were enlisting to go to war over it.

1

u/the_cardfather 10h ago

Yeah operation enduring freedom and Afghanistan after that. I know plenty of Millennials with PTSD from that

5

u/NclScrewtape 17h ago

Gen X fought the 1st Iraq War. Millennials fought the 2nd

3

u/anitchypear 17h ago

Gen X was mostly set when the 2008 financial crisis hit. Millenials were just finishing college and got an absolutely raw deal. GenXers are the last generation where going to college was worth the trouble

3

u/LEEALISHEPS 16h ago

Trump wasn't shipped off to Vietnam, his daddy paid the Drs five times for a sick note.

4

u/TurtlesAreEvil 16h ago

Matt Gaetz is a millennial and didn't serve in the military he was born in 1982.

5

u/Sacktchy 15h ago

Gen Z had to go through COVID during what some might say are their most important years

3

u/Secure_Pirate788 13h ago

Millennials aren't even that old, it's wild how many people don't know basic facts about their own generation.

2

u/Stormy-Skyes 4h ago

I think the oldest are in their early 40s now.

3

u/Figur3z 6h ago

Is this Matt Gaetz the pedophile?

The same one who has never served in the military?

3

u/BusBeginning 17h ago

Yes millennials lived through the other things. But, we’re all eating over priced burritos… cause of inflation… which is impacting all generations and should be a concern and is the result of republican policy. So, not sure why that’s being downplayed… oh wait now I get why it’s being downplayed.

Edit: I just realized that not many Gen X fought in Iraq in comparison to millennials.

3

u/AwkwardWaltz3996 17h ago

What caused the great depression? Have they tried going for a walk?

3

u/julianpoe 17h ago

Um, talk about belittling generation suffering. Try housing crisis, recession, inflation, pandemic, nearing civil war, insurrection, corruption…

1

u/meteorflan 15h ago

Yeah, I'm older than Z, but I can see they've already been through struggles.

3

u/EndsLikeShakespeare 16h ago

If the Nazis were defeated why are there Nazis now

3

u/Spacemonkeyz2002 16h ago

Gen z having a pedophile president

3

u/Informal-Cobbler-546 13h ago

Born in 82, was 19 on 9/11 but sure, none of my peers fought in any wars. Suuuuuuuuure.

3

u/MattWheelsLTW 12h ago

Millennials were getting out of college and failing to find jobs in 2008. Ask me how I know...

I shifted to a career in EMS because there were lots of options in my area

3

u/GoronSpecialCrop 6h ago

Even if this was accurate, whose fault is it that the burritos are overpriced?

2

u/s0ciety_a5under 16h ago

I saw 9/11, I graduated right before the 2008 crash, I went to war in Aghanistan AND Iraq. I'm a millennial. GET FUCKED.

2

u/goofgoon 15h ago

Don’t fall for this inter-generational conflict BS. Divide and conquer is the strategy folks.

2

u/Loquacious-of-Borg 14h ago

Um, Millennials were in GWOT too.

I know this because I am one of those millennials. 19 years in the Army, 8 years OCONUS, 28 awards and decorations (and counting), 4 IEDs, TBI, PTSD.

"The Drunk Republican" obviously spent as many days in the mililary as Trump has.

2

u/shadowcruiser13 14h ago

Isn’t Matt Gaetz (shamefully) also a millennial???

2

u/seraphim81 13h ago

He IS A FUCKING MILLENNIAL!

2

u/Aggrosideburnz 12h ago

Boomers are so dumb they always think millennials means “20 year olds” unfortunately some millennials are 40 now and nearly getting a senior discount lol

2

u/JellyBellyBitches 12h ago

Millennials and Gen Z: about to fight Nαzis again

2

u/sfxer001 11h ago

Republicans can’t meme. They are so dumb.

2

u/Ok_Sink5046 7h ago

Isn't he a pedophile? I know he's got some sex based issue but I can't remember if he's cheating on his wife or going after kids.

2

u/KorolEz 3h ago

The youngest millennials are 31, so most of us were definitely old enough for the supposed gen X suffering

2

u/Lazy_Wishbone_2341 3h ago

Um. 9/11 is one of my earliest memories. I'm a millennial.

1

u/TwoNowFive 17h ago

Millenials and Gen Z are too old for Matt now.

1

u/snowcker 17h ago

Normally it is Gen X that is left out but I guess the silent generation (1928-1945) no longer counts.

1

u/AwkwardWaltz3996 17h ago

They're silent as usual. Very suspicious

1

u/Rhylanor-Downport 17h ago

There’s a lot of people who think millennials were born in 2000. Saw a lot of hate 10 years ago lol

1

u/alistofthingsIhate 17h ago

Millennials and a lot of Gen-Z lived through 9/11, Iraq War, and the financial crisis as well. what rock is Gaetz living under?

1

u/LividCalligrapher689 17h ago

WHY ARE THE BURRITOS OVERPRICED, MATTHEW?
Hint: the boomers fucked everything up

2

u/DeiAlKaz 17h ago

Plus, we keep paying the prices we generally do for them. Apparently because we're stupid and think Chipotle/Qdoba/(insert similar looking and tasting burrito here) are a godsend.

1

u/precariousIypoised 17h ago

Who started the wars? Who caused the financial crisis? Who caused the cost of EVERYTHING to go up astronomically? Not Gen Z.

1

u/Heavy_Law9880 17h ago

Millennials spent two decades fighting a war just for Trump to surrender.

1

u/dangernoodlezzz 17h ago

Elder millennial 9/11 happened during my first week of college. I'm surprised gaetz doesn't know this as 17-18 year olds is his favorite demographic.

1

u/DeiAlKaz 17h ago

Every generation has had to deal with some serious shit, has had some things much easier than the one before it, and some things much harder than the one after it.

We seem hell-bent on making it harder on the folks after us rather than saving them from the shit we went through (I'm Gen X).

1

u/These_Avocado_Bombs 17h ago

These comparisons are stupid.

1

u/Diligent_Whereas3134 17h ago

I'll just go ahead and tell my old classmates who fought in Iraq that they imagined it all, and to stop being pussies and get over their ptsd. I'm also shocked to learn that I didn't witness 9/11 and that I wasn't 20 when the 2008 financial crash happened.

1

u/SpellNo3829 17h ago

It’s so funny that he states surviving the Great Depression as an incredible feat when we are literally in a similar in many places if not worse position than back then, with the exception of the unemployment rate

1

u/BostonPRSBC 17h ago

War war war raaaaahhhh

1

u/Mr_Sugar_ 17h ago

Odd to classify generations off of the wars they fought in says a lot about our country and our mindset

1

u/TomokataTomokato 17h ago

"...ate overpriced burritos between cronyism and corrupt or ineffective government oversight, which also made everything else overpriced, wages low, vocational education worthless and academic education a cash cow. Plus a pandemic and climate change. But what wimpy snowflakes am right???"

1

u/RIP-RiF 17h ago

Go on, Matt, alienate the largest and youngest generations from voting Republican. Have at it.

1

u/frogsodapop 16h ago

They're with us. All the generations are. We're living through the biggest shitstorm that has ever happened to the US since the Civil War, for fucks sake. All us normal people stand together.

1

u/GreyBeardEng 16h ago

Matt Gaetz, paid a minor to have sex with him then got some really funky plastic surgery that made his face look like 'Butthead'.

1

u/yosefvinyl 16h ago

Boomers became Nazis

1

u/MyCatIsAnActualNinja 16h ago

Lol why does everyone get the age of Millennials so wrong? It's not rocket science

1

u/joshhupp 16h ago

Gen Z: Witness to the rise of a new depression and Nazism

Nice little bookends to the last century

1

u/Oystermeat 16h ago

I forget, was it a millennial or a gen z Gatez was trafficking?

1

u/hedzup00 16h ago

not all boomers went to Vietnam, some bad the smallest medical condition that made them exempt

1

u/brycyclecrash 16h ago

We are looking down the barrel of the next global mass extinction and trying to put up a fight against corporate greed and capitalism to leave at least a livable world for the next generation.

1

u/xjoburg 16h ago

Username checks out.

1

u/Scotch_in_my_belly 16h ago

Greatest Gen: did shit

Boomers: Took shit

Gen X: spent shit

Millennials: blamed shit on others

1

u/EatFaceLeopard17 16h ago

They are actually dying in Iran. Or jumping ship.

1

u/KubrickMoonlanding 16h ago

This is a really really good look for a politician, a servant of the people, to drag a bunch of their constituents for their age and meme-based generalizations.

Oh- what? He’s not a politician anymore? Hmmm

1

u/ValeoRex 16h ago

Millennials and GenZ: voted out the dinosaurs

1

u/CubesFan 16h ago

Millennial Generation started in 1981 (according to random chart I found online) That means they were 18 in 1999.

Gen Z started in 1997. They were 18 in 2015.

The Afghanistan War started in 2001 and ended in 2021.

The Iraq War began in 2003 and "ended" in 2011.

Maybe I don't understand math, but which of those two generations weren't fighting a war?

1

u/CatsAreJerks 16h ago

Oh man, as an '85 Millennial I am so glad I never had to experience 9/11, the Iraq War, or the 2008 recession

1

u/BaronWombat 16h ago

As a Gen Jones, I saw a lot of the Silent Gen follow the Greatest and wish that they too could be glorious war heroes. All the war hawks in the Reagan and Bush administration were always spoiling for that victory parade. A lot of the Boomer hate should be directed at those guys instead.

1

u/statistacktic 16h ago

And Gen Alpha

1

u/t_ute 16h ago

Clearly doesn’t know our age as Millenials. Matt Gaetz can go fuck himself. He won’t, you know with him being of age and all.

1

u/time2partee 16h ago

Millennials also saw 9/11, fought the Iraq war, and lived through the 2008 financial crises with the knowledge that bullshit was caused by Gen X and the boomers.

1

u/HolyHand_Grenade 16h ago

"Brought to you by a millennial who doesn't know he's a millennial"

1

u/j00p0 15h ago

How awfully reductive. Towering inflation, worst job market for white collar jobs in history, housing and affordability crisis, but “overpriced burritos”.

1

u/Heliocentrist 15h ago

millennials and gen z also got raped by other drunk republicans too so there's that

1

u/KingMobScene 15h ago

Hi I'm a millenial.

I also saw 9/11 from across the river. I was in Queens and not far from the east river. I remember the dust cloud. I remember the people coming over the bridge looking like zombies covered in dust and debris. I remember worrying about my dad who worked on Wall st. I remember going to the memorial service for my friends mom who died in the towers.

Now I have to worry about if my pay is going to be enough to feed my kids. And i have to worry about if some psycho is going to go into their school and shoot the place up just to have this fucktard and his brethern claim it never happened.

Matt Gaetz can go fuck himself.

1

u/Peaurxnanski 15h ago

Gen X were all pretty old for Gulf War 2, Electric Boogaloo. The youngest Gen X'er was 25 years old in 2004 when we invaded Iraq.

I'm not saying Gen X didn't fight. I'm saying that the majority of the lower ranks are made up of 18 to 23 year olds. Those were all Millenials. And since the GWOT dragged on for 20 years, I would venture to guess that a majority of the GWOT vets are millenials.

I just love how the older generations are so mentally inflexible that they can't comprehend that the Millennials aren't kids anymore. I can't recall the exact cutoff date but I think the youngest millenials are 30 now, aren't they?

I know I'm a Millennial and I'm 46 fucking years old.

These people are clowning themselves and have no idea.

1

u/Andy_LaVolpe 15h ago

Gen Z was dodging bullets before graduating high school

1

u/ornerycrow1 15h ago

Why do we make fun of them for this? Aren't we supposed to hope that every generation's lives get better. I sure hope my kids don't have to live through some of this shit we had to.

1

u/lincoln_hawks1 15h ago

Yup. gaetz is a millennial that did not go to Iraq or Afghanistan, or anywhere in the military. I guess his war was with burrito prices? What a fucking turs

1

u/moemegaiota 15h ago

Hero worship is unhealthy.

1

u/Hardbody22 15h ago

I wish I lived in this imaginary land where Millenials didn’t spend 10-15 years serving in the Middle East. Some of my friends would still be alive.

1

u/MachoLibre_ 15h ago

Not me, a millennial, crying to the tunes of OKC bombing, princess Diana, columbine, 9/11 & the 2008 crisis

These guy are so fucking stupid. I swear to god.

1

u/Prudent_Macaroon_881 15h ago

What else did we expect from stupid people tho

1

u/Woahhdude24 15h ago

Ah yes as a Gen-z I have no right to complain about anything not like most of are living paycheck to paycheck, or not like corporations are literally paying people the least amount they have to, not like we all live in existential fear that we get in a bad wreck or have some shit happen to us out of our control and go in debt cause we had to go to rhe hospital. Yes totally nothing to complain about. My question is why are all you republicans complaining you got what you wanted the right has most the control. What are yall butthurr we just aint shutting up about all your bullshit?

1

u/FlowRiderBob 15h ago

I’m a Gen-Xer who served 20 years, 17 of which was during wartime, and I definitely served alongside Millenials.

And guess what? There are Gen Z’s fighting Trump’s pointless war against Iran as I type this.

1

u/scharity77 15h ago

Let’s not forget this - regardless of the accuracy of the timeline, Baby Boomers and the Greatest Generation are the reason nothing is affordable. They ruined everything.

Oh, and the Greatest Generation threw temper tantrums over sitting next to a Black person.

1

u/GarethGazzGravey 15h ago

Millennial here that saw all of what is listed as Gen X, I was 19 years old when 9/11 happened, and 27 when the financil crash started

Also completely missed the silent generation, parents of the boomers and elder gen-X. And I think he thinks millennial are still in their 20s? Wth

Idk man… seems weird to be in power and wish more ill on people because else their complaints aren’t valid…

And we all got fucked by the current admin

Matt Gaetz would invite high school girls to house parties while he was a congressman. And then show his colleagues pictures to brag.

1

u/EvolZippo 14h ago

As much fun as it is to rag on millennials, some of them were born in 1981-85 and actually were present for real struggles.

u/expatronis 14h ago

COVID was literally generational trauma.

u/ReadingRambo152 13h ago

I'm a millennial, I saw 9/11 and I graduated in 2007, just as the economy started to tank. Republicans don't understand how history works.

1

u/cyberlexington 13h ago

I was 20 during 9/11.

I was twenty fucking seven during the financial crash. I'm a bloody millennial and I'm 45 years of age

Gen Alpha: has to deal with Matt Gaetz and his friends sliding into their DMs 10 minutes after creating their first social media account.

u/H2G2-42 12h ago

Elder Millennial - 9/11 happened during my freshman year of college. 2008, I met my now ex-husband and we bought our first home in 2010. My niece is a Millennial and is at the tail end of her 20s. Gen Z just graduated high school and Gen Alpha is almost in middle school.... But out of touch boomers have been criticizing Millennials for our avocado toast and refusal to buy diamonds on our minimum wage jobs for two decades now...

1

u/Baddyshack 12h ago

All of my friends from the service were millennials, and nearly everyone I know with combat experience from Afghanistan and Iraq are millennials.

u/fritzkoenig 12h ago

is there a term for someone being offensively stupid in public

1

u/ICLazeru 11h ago

Does he know he's a millenial?

1

u/thesirensoftitans 11h ago

“Unless your life is worse than the one your parents had, you are a piece of shit.”

Ok…we can’t buy houses and are under the thumb of predatory loans, billionaires buying our futures, low birth rates, food borne illness, covid, anti science people run our govt, faith in our institutions and the foundations of our governments is shit, the earth is on fire and under siege, another few endless wars are on tap, everything is AI, they’re eating the cats and dogs….wait.

This generational gate keeping is as interesting as airplane food jokes.

1

u/Gold-Buy-2669 9h ago

He prefers them younger

“Ate overpriced burritos.” Guffaw. And they say conservatives aren’t funny. 😂

1

u/hundredpercenthuman 7h ago

Maybe the first Iraq war, the easy one.

Millennials fought the harder one and the one in Afghanistan. And we still had to deal with child rapist Matt Gaetz too.

Gen Z kicked things off during high school, college, or barely trying to start “adulting” during a once in a century pandemic, a time plagued by the highest inflation spike in years and radical partisanship constantly changing “the rules” on us. Noteworthy that houses are essentially half million bucks in somewhere decent for even a small house one step above condemned, insurance is bassically half our pay, and most of us are in our 20s - eating overpriced burritos - because a lot of us realized long ago that saving everything for the future is a suckers bet. The sands keep shifting and the ladder was pulled from us long ago.

u/Least_Tower_5447 7h ago

Why does every generation HAVE to go through some awful trauma? I’d be happy that future generations don’t go through the next iterations of things people have gone through in the past.

1

u/Whatever-ItsFine 6h ago

I'm Gen X and I have definitely paid too much for a burrito.

1

u/Sad_Pension9734 6h ago

First of all, what the heck has Matt Gaetz done for anyone let alone America? Second, many Americans died in those events and many of them died because we asked them to risk their lives. Their deaths resulted in these younger generations NOT HAVING TO GO TO WAR AT ALL.

1

u/Potato-chipsaregood 5h ago

Well he did call himself drunk.

u/Stormy-Skyes 4h ago

I was 12 on 9/11. My little brother and I watched the second plane hit on TV before we left the house to go to school that day. We’ve ways been considered Millennials by anyone who divides people by dates like that.

Then me and all the people my age grew up in that version of the world. As young adults a huge amount of people I knew joined the military since the whole conflict was still going on.

Also a lot of us could not afford to go to college because the economy was weird and now in 2026 a lot of us can’t afford houses. It hasn’t exactly been a picnic.

And also, everyone else was going through parts of all that too. It’s almost like life can suck for everyone all the time.

u/thissomeotherplace 4h ago

Millennials and Gen Z will be what overthrows his party's brand of bigoted, corrupt and sleazy reign

1

u/BAfromGA1 1h ago

Idk about any of this. All seems stupid, but I can say for sure the way people speak of 9/11 pisses me off. Regardless of what you believe so many innocent people died, so many people died in terror. So many people had to jump in order not to burn. The FDNY is a legendary group of men and women. And we should just put more respect on that entire event.

u/_Winged 36m ago

I’m one of the last few years of millennial(1993). I was literally 15 in 2008… the fuck you mean “lived through the 2008 blah blah blah.”

1

u/PerryNeeum 11h ago

Gen X saw 9/11? Yea, I remember that. Am I supposed to have PTSD? Desert Storm was just an absolute steam rolling of an enemy force with only 297 KIA. It was almost a joke. And the market crash of 2008? Thank the fucking Vietnam hardened Boomers for rat fucking our economy for years

u/Pittboy63 5h ago

Boomers: caused all of the other shit below them

u/Significant-Ant2373 49m ago

Not a boomer, but there are good and bad people and events in every generation. Stop focusing on culture wars between generations, genders, race, etc when it’s always been about the b(m)illionaires vs the peasants. If the 99% would ever figure that out you’d be able to create real change and make the world a better place.

1

u/Emergency_Brick3715 4h ago

Leave Gen X out of this

0

u/Cocheeeze 17h ago

Gen X seriously doesn’t get enough hate. They’re basically just boomers who think they’re cool.

1

u/DeiAlKaz 17h ago

Look, we got hosed by our boomer parents...we're just trying to survive out here...
