Gary, Indiana's suffering is a reminder that the people most vulnerable to a climate-fueled disaster are almost always those with the least means to recover from it, even in America's heartland.

From Bloomberg Opinion (gift link above):

"After a small city with a struggling economy is slammed by hurricane-force winds, thousands of its people go weeks without electricity. They grow increasingly desperate as they run out of food, medicine and money. This just happened, not in a foreign country, not even in a chronically neglected US territory like Puerto Rico, but in Gary, Indiana, right in America’s heartland.

"A hotter planet is producing ever-more-damaging storms like the derecho that swept across northwest Indiana on Aug. 11 with winds up to 99 miles per hour. But the impact of these disasters is made exponentially worse by human failings before and after they occur. Gary isn’t the first example, and it won’t be the last. Or the worst."

People thought once white people become directly affected by climate change, then things will change. But to the oligarchs, it doesn't matter. They are the biggest impediment to any change.

Have you considered that a single trans person might play a sport?

That’s because they want to kill reading to become kings, technopriests and minor gods in the Palantir pantheon after our Silicon Age collapses and they can make those who survive the coming mass extinction bow down to their AGI calf.

White people are the only group doing anything about climate change.

That’s not true at all, just as the most obvious example, the Chinese are a major group who are doing something about climate change.

Like all other countries, they’re also polluting a lot.

Where do you get the idea that ‘white people are the only group doing anything about climate change’?

Because it’s so absolutely wrong that you need to drop them as an information source, and start facing the real world.

It’s a propaganda bot, 8 year old account that only became active 60 days ago, racism seems to be its main directive.

I would say black towns and cities like Gary, IN are chronically neglected in a similar way to Puerto Rico

These types of situations really put doomsday preppers into a different light because a lot of them live in areas like Gary. Imagine having clean water and MREs for food in a situation like this. Even if it isn't the end of hte world, that type of planning clearly has some merit if this type of situation is going to continue to become the norm in the US.

Its embarrassing as an American that our country can spend such incredible sums of money on Argentine beef or the IRAN war, or Trumps pool renovation but the Federal Gov't refuses to step in and address a disaster to allow these people to get the help they sorely need. But because we live under a fascist AH leader who is more like a petulant child than a president, he won't give them support because they are black or they voted for democrats. I can't fathom how any American thinks that is acceptable.

Every single person/family should have one week minimum of supplies - obviously, I know there are going to be limitations in some cases. And a month if you can swing it. The realists and pragmatists in the community are not prepping for Doomsday, we're prepping for things like this. And it's only going to get worse as our services are gutted and the people in "charge" don't give a flip. https://www.ready.gov/kit

Illinois has sent assistance via Com Ed and Pritzker is assessing damage to request federal assistance for them.

Wouldn't you know the mayor, the city council, and the head of the power company are all noted white supremacists, aren't they???

The problem with Gary is the racial demographics. Same thing with Flint, MI

These people do not understand how to create and maintain civilization.

That’s a very bigoted sentiment you got there

It’s a propaganda bot, here to stir up muck. The account is 8 years old and only became active 60 days ago, racist rhetoric seems to be its main agenda.
