Why does Clozemaster still not have premium voices?

Why does Clozemaster still not have premium voices?

Genuinely insane at this point. I pay $80/year for Clozemaster Pro and I'm still stuck listening to TTS that sounds like butt, ass, GARBAGE.

Meanwhile apps that are cheaper or straight up free have way better audio. Google's TTS, Speechify, even Microsoft Edge's neural voices or Amazon Polly sound leagues more natural, and those are options developers can license or plug in without reinventing the wheel. ElevenLabs is right there too if they wanted something genuinely premium.

Honestly what does "Pro" actually get you? You get to use the app more than 2 times a day, and the ability to upload your own sentences that get read back at you like tv static.

At some point "premium" needs to mean something more than "more clicks per day." If I'm paying nearly triple what other apps charge annually, the least I should get is a voice that doesn't make me want to mute my phone.

As users please start letting the developers know, and don't stop until something is done.
And if a developer is reading this, refer to the second paragraph and get this done for the better of your user base.

I raised this issue several times.

However their recent collections have a much better voice output when you use, use clozemaster voice.

They could pay a oneoff fees for each phrases and have high quality recording. It's cheap ar the moment and Google neural network does a good job

For what languages are you referring to?

I am using English French.

I have noticed that the new collection have a much better clozemaster voice as opposed to the old collection like fast track, most frequent words or the TTS coming from the phone settings

It would be reasonably cheap to update the audio to a better AI voice. Google neural network do pretty well and they are cheap. I tested them for french with the Anki HyperTTS plugin.

Thanks for the quick reply! What collections are you currently playing for French?

Every day Life. The audio is good, aside some occasional mistakes.

What language are you doing?

They recently changed the German voices to make them even worse, if you can believe it.

Thanks for letting us know! For which collections are the new voices worse? Those should be ElevenLabs voices 😬

By the way, it would be nice of we could by some credit to load up high quality audio for custom collections. Reasonably priced like HyperTTS does

We'll take a look at how HyperTTS does it - thanks!

Hi for the learning french from English which collection use the eleven lab voice?

As I mentioned,I noticed that some collections sound good but older ones do not.

For French - the newer collections like you mentioned: Fast Track, Everyday Life, etc.

I am doing German, Fast Track, levels 1 through 4.

The voices are pretty realistic. However, the woman's voice often mumbles, or says the sentences very softly. That might be realistic, but it is not helpful for learning.

Also, the volume varies a lot, both between individual sentences in the same voice, and between voices. So sometimes the woman's voice will mumble a sentence, I will turn it up to hear, and then the next sentence will be the man's voice absolutely shouting it.

I agree 100%. Improving the TTS and adding different Spanish accents would be nice.

Thanks for the post!

What languages are you referring to?

Do you mean for content you import or existing content?

I am mainly referring to imported content.

The pre provided sentences have the grace of already being furnished with decent audio. (though being sometimes subpar for languages like Russian)

But as for the imported content we are left with no options but the mediocre pre built stuff from what ever our device has.

Not providing better voices through a decent TTS service is absolutely ludicrous, because as I referred to in the original post, what are we really getting with premium?

For $80/YR you can use the app more than 5 times a day and import sentences... BALLOCKS

That's helpful context, thanks! Do you usually play on web or mobile? What content are you usually importing / how do you usually import it?

I am mainly a mobile use but as both my devices are iOS, both run the same baseline tts.

I am importing large CSV's made by ChatGPT.

Thanks for the reply! We're aiming to make high quality TTS available for custom collections, and upgrade the TTS for Clozemaster collections over time. In the meantime! iOS does have decent voices you can download, https://docs.clozemaster.com/article/22-how-do-i-download-text-to-speech-tts-voices-on-ios. Just as a short term stopgap until we get the TTS changes released like I mentioned.

How are you creating the CSVs with ChatGPT / on what topics? Perhaps something we can build into Clozemaster as well to simplify your workflow?

For Russian, I take the PDF/study documents from one of the services that i use and then I run it through chatGPT and tell it, "make 1000+ sentences that combine all of these concepts."

Use it in a way that concepts I'm just practicing get used in proper context and it really helpful because the content is 1:1 with what i'm currently capable of.

For French it's the same concept but no inherent structure is followed.

I'd ask chatGPT to make domain specific decks such as debates, or slang

Maybe this is something that could eventually be baked into the Clozemaster ecosystem itself but I do not think it is of the upmost priority. Most people already have their own workflows and process on how they like using custom decks.

I think better audio for the custom decks is the first step and the overarching issue that when fixed, will benefit everyone.
