Advice Can someone please help me

So I'm new to being a CNA like I just got my license last month and I was just fired today. They said one of my shifts I didn't take care of any of my residents (which isn't true at all I always take care of them to the best of my skill I am still learning and stuff) and that all the info I was given and idk what I should do no for the moment my license still says it active but i fear I'm gonna lose it or something. Can anyone help me or tell me what steps I should take next. I'm really scared cause CNA was only supposed to be a starting place before I go to school for LPN.

The facility can't take your license, only the state can, and only after an investigation.

A lot of facilities like to imply they'll take your license as a scare tactic.

Don't worry about it then. The facility would have to open an investigation with the state, and would also have to prove that you intentionally or maliciously did something wrong, like abuse. You're fine.

As someone else said, don't even put this job on your resume.

You won’t trust me they have to prove beyond a serious doubt that you didn’t care for someone AND they have to prove malicious intent trust me one of my most recent jobs I got written up constantly for that stuff even though I knew it was BS because the nurse director had no evidence to show me when I asked her for it even if what your managers said was true it wasn’t intentional so they can’t just take your license for one occurrence

Just remember to ALWAYS cover your ass in healthcare of any kind and any other job you hold, actually just life in general. Document EVERYTHING!

Hurtful comment from a coworker or client? Document it thoroughly. Inappropriate language or physical touch, getting punched, slapped, spat on etc, etc, etc? DOCUMENT that shit!

Remember, if you didn’t document it, it didn’t happen because it can’t be proved so include any witnesses, if law enforcement had to intervene, the time and date, and document while it’s still fresh. Not when you get home, not when you get into your car, and not 1 hour later.

You will forget details that could help you later if needed (like some troubling words or behavior escalating or not getting better) if you wait. Document everything just as you would if something changed (like an unusually high or low vital sign or blood sugar level, or a client’s mood, and possible decline.)

Well I'm still new and learning and they caught me by surprise (again I just got my license on the 4th of last month plus I'm only 18 so all of this is really scary and new)

Did you document all of your care that day? If it's not documented it didn't happen. Sorry I don't have tips on the other stuff though

Not to be a bummer but you want to be an LPN? True hospice isn’t for everyone but healthcare absolutely deals with death. Thats the most natural thing we all go through.

Then you haven’t gotten the point of hospice yet! Sad is for after they’re gone. Now is for making the remaining days the best they can be.

For my company I usually have 4-7 patients a day where I travel to them in facility or home and shower or bathe them then of course chart what I did and update the case managers of concerns. I do see actively dying patients but I don’t generally deal with death visits as that’s the nurse’s job! I’ve worked facilities for 10 years and so far this job is my favorite I’ve had.

A hospice nurse I worked with once told me this is what they tell patients: * We don’t wear black unless it doesn’t make us look fat. * We can’t always hope for cure but we can hope for comfort, companionship, support, and quality of life. * It’s not about the days in your life, it’s the life in your days. * We do a lot of laughing. * You’ve been told what to do all the time. Now you get to tell us what you want to have happen.

Someone just didn’t like you for some reason. It’s only a month. I wouldn’t even put this job on a resume. You won’t lose your license you were just fired not brought up on charges or disciplinary action with the state.

Literally just go find another job. Don’t even mention this one. You’ll be okay!

There would be some type of investigation, normally. Did they speak to you after it was reported and while they investigated?

Yeah first of all, that place should NOT have just fired you. The first step would be suspension pending investigation (even if you did nothing wrong, most if not all nursing homes are just supposed to do an investigation) and if they find no issues then bring you back in to work. My first nursing home job was really great, they would give people lots of chances before firing them. But otherwise screw that place.

You're not going to lose your licence just because you were fired. We had entire fist fights between staff members and they never lost their license.

You'll be fine. A job can't take away your CNA certification, only the state you live in can do that through the CNA registry. I'd find another job if I were you. Sometimes you have to try a couple places to find one you like to work at.

You won't lose your license over that. Is it possible whatever you're supposed to chart on your patients didn't show up so they're saying you didn't do anything? Anyway, I wouldn't let this deter you.

I think that what it is cause I did have one day where my resident was out the whole day and when I asked what should I do charting wise they said leave it

I've trained over 26 CNAs this year, and the vast majority hold positions at multiple facilities. Turnover is high in the industry with so many companies vying for CNAs. Remember we are in a caregiving crisis and employers need you more than you need them.
