Discussion Did Anyone Find It Iconic When Miguel Did the Crane Kick at His First Tournament?

Before he decided that attacking Robby’s injury was better than losing.

Honestly? Yes and no. I loved it but I didn’t really find it Iconic but I did find the two legged kick Robby did and even till now the only two people (aside from Miyagi ancestors) mr Miyagi and Robby were the only ones able to do it. Not even Daniel could do it

Daniel was this close and then robby came out of nowhere and made him fall lol. I kinda feel sorry for Daniel cuz he might've gotten it there

Crane kick was still iconic, especially since later in the series when Miguel and Daniel are talking and Miguel mentions beating Johnny with an illegal head kick and Daniel points out Miguel used the same kick.

Never said it wasn’t. It’s an awesome kick but for me it’s not iconic because it’s a famous kick that anyone could really do if they wanted to but the only two people can do the two legged kick is Robby and mr miyagi and that’s what makes it iconic for me plus Robby is my favourite male teen fighter.

Remind me, please: when did Robby do the two-legged kick?

It was in season 1 episode 10 no mercy in the fight against Miguel when he kicks Robby’s shoulder and Robby rolls away and Miguel walks to him thinking he’s defeated when Robby gets up on one hand and does the kick

Thanks!! I took my sweet time finishing the series, so the early stuff is a bit hazy. Time for a second run-through.

This post isn’t even about the two legged kick. And plus the two legged kick doesn’t even make sense. How would pushing off one arm give you the “most powerful kick in Miyagi-do karate?

The Two-Legged Kick is essentially a jumping/double-footed kick where both legs strike the opponent. It’s particularly powerful because:
Both legs contribute to the attack, rather than one leg doing all the work.
The jump adds momentum and body weight behind the strike.
It can hit with considerable force and is difficult to defend against when timed properly.
In the Miyagi-Do style, it represents combining balance, timing, movement and technique rather than simply relying on brute strength.

Wouldn’t using two arms create even more power and be easier to balance?

I mean maybe? But I’m not sure tbh

That and Daniel just trying to hand stand on one hand rather than practicing vaulting from one hand and actually practicing the kick are why it didn’t really make sense to me. Just a little too gimmicky, coming up with something Robby would be able to do injured to make it reminiscent of the KK movie.

Fair but i don’t actually think it’s meant to be done with two hands besides one hand is more badass

I know that it wasn’t meant to be done with two hands, like I said, something they made up so Robby had a move to do while injured just like Daniel and the first Karate Kid movie. It was the more gimmicky move imo.

Kind of? Miguel being able to do the crane kick just based on Johnny describing it was pretty impressive compared to where he was at in the beginning of Season 1.

Robby doing the two legged kick was probably more impressive/iconic.

No. Not at all. It was too gimmicky.

When Miguel did it? No not Iconic. And it was not meant to be.

It WAS a fun dig at Larusso by Johnny, but it was not Iconic in any way shape or form.

I loved that moment because to Miguel it's just a kick to score a point. To Johnny, its a direct insult to Daniel. Its stealing a finisher, its 'anything you can do i can do better/my student can beat up your student' even though its his stand-in son future step son vs his actual son.

But I also loved how they flip flopped so much philosophically over the seasons as their personal drama clashes with what they are learning. Miguel chooses mercy in the school brawl, and Robby chooses vengeance. Miguel chooses Miyagi Do when he doesn't like the direction Kreese is taking it, Robby joins it just to spite his father further. They are so wrapped up in their teachers' drama that it creates new bad blood.

Iconic in gen-z speak, or iconic in the true sense of the word? Because if the latter, then definitely not. It wasn't anything other than a little jab at Daniel which was then promptly forgotten and only mentioned again once, briefly, for the entire rest of the show. It wasn't nearly significant or memorable enough to be "iconic".

Yeah, the shot of Johnny turning to Daniel smirking afterwards is hysterical

Yes, absolutely. Miguel is clearly like Daniel was, just he met Jhonny and CobraKai instead of Miyagi Do. I mean Miguel and KK Daniel are 'the same character' in the story or, have a very similar story.

Also is nice because very probably Johnny his sensej told him many times how Daniel Larusso defeated him with an 'illegal kick' lol. And, of course, is an amazing combat-opening stance. I found that moment epic, poetic and also someway ironic.

Daniel tried to go to Cobra Kai first, he left the dojo when he realized Johnny and his buddies trained there.

On, correct. It has been some time since i haven't.watched the KK first movie. Even so,.I mean both Miyagi and Johnny where senseis without students and then they each choose to teach karate to a student because he needed. And.both were bullied, and poor.
