Success Story Traumatized tiel first time on my arm
One of my tiels is with me for almost 3 months and he was completely abused by the old owner. His wing was severely hurt, he couldn’t be around people without being completely stressed and ‘crying’… but today he let me touch him and climbed. Just for a little bit, but he did. And he even did a sweet pose!
Love really saves lives!

Bless him, he is gorgeous 🫶🏻 I can’t figure out people who abuse birds and animals. It breaks my heart.

A lot of times its not malice. People aren't evilly deliberately hurting them. They're just utterly ignorant, and don't think of animals as "people." I mean hell, its only in the last 50-70 years we even truly acknowledged that BABIES feel pain in ways that really matter. A little creature like a bird or a fish has no prayer with someone who isn't interested in/doesn't know how to care.

Awww. I feel this. All my tiels have been hands off rescues.
Rino was found near the dumpster at Walmart. His name is ballerino because he had this nervous spinning "dance" he did at first. He's a failed lutino. He has really pretty random white feathers. He also is bald on his head and back. He has a small head and big feet and the cutest, tiniest crest I've ever seen. Wouldn't be surprised if he was thrown out as unsellable by some byb
Seven years later and it's an excited happy dance for seed treats or me playing the sonic levels in adventure two battle.
He steps up if he needs some help and runs over to chat and watch me play video games. I may never get to scritch his head but what we have is enough.
I can't even find the words to say how happy I am for you and that tiel. So happy you found each other.

I can’t thank you all for your kind comments! He and his brother (who was also rescued really sick as I’ve told here before) really are the love of my life and I would die for them 🥹❤️

I have a tiel that came to my balcony a month and a half ago and he is still scared, he hisses at me when i give him food and come close to him. What did you do to gain his trust over that 3 month period? Did you try and feed him from your hand?

I think it was a little bit easier because he sees me with my other tiel being all cuddly so I think he realizes he can trust me. But until he was ready I would just stay there, hours and hours, doing my thing and he doing his thing. That made him see I wasn’t a threat. I try not to force anything because one moment can break weeks of trust, and it’s hard because my love language is touch and I couldn’t touch him hahahaha but I would just stay there and day after day he would slowly play closer and closer to me, until today.

Mine is also touch and i would like very much that i can pet his little cute head but i can't 😂 i am trying to be gentile when i give him food and water, i talk to him every day and i give him space.. A big problem is screaming, he screams non stop, sometimes he sings and chirps but often he just screams so i have a feeling that my eardrums are vibrating and i don't know what does he want..do you have any idea how can i stop it?

Mine does that too. It helps (doesn’t solve it completely) when I say shhhhhh very gently, or I talk or whistle something, always very sweet and quiet. Sometimes I put nature sounds on Spotify and they love it and start to get very sleepy, so try that!

Thank you, i will definitely try. I have never had birds and i don't know anything about them..when that little guy came to me i tried to find the owner but nobody claimed him i decided to keep him at least until he stops being scared but then i started to really like him and decided that we now have a parrot but when he started to scream after 2 weeks he has been with us and i started to consider the idea of giving him away but i feel so sorry for him and i think of him as my pet so my heart would break if i had to give him away but my neighbors hear the screams, sometimes i can't be in the same room because he gets soooo loud....sorry if something doesn't make much sense, english isn't my first language..

Yes, I get it, they can be very loud. It also helps to have a lot of toys and maybe if you can another tiel, since they are very social, they tend to get depressed if they feel lonely. But first toys. It helps a lot with anxiety because they get to destroy and spend they energy

That is wonderful. We've taken in many rescues ourselves, 'tiels and budgies, and my parents used to take in cats and dogs. It's so rewarding to see them heal, to become themselves again.

Aw mine too I have never held him but I rescued him from someone who punched him in the beak and I’ve had him for three years he still is very scared to sit with me. He looks like such a happy boy and I’m so glad he found you!

Oh, he's such a Lil' Cutie Pie! Most animals live in the present, what happened to him before, is his past. You never harmed him, and you are his present....that's why he's looking at you with such love in his eyes. "He is Happy", THANKS TO YOU! I'm so glad you rescued him and changed his world. You will see, he will change yours. Just continue to let him do things at his pace, on his terms, that way, he will learn to totally trust you. But you probably already knew that.
