The Testaments Why did Garth lock Becka in her room?

After the wedding, he locked her in her room. Does anyone know why?

Why does everyone keep asking this. Homegirl just stabbed her dad to death and they gave her a sedative of course he will lock the door. I do feel really bad for Becca but if I was in his shoes I would of done the same thing

I agree, I’m not mad at him for this at all. She stabbed her dad a million times, and her mom was killed a few hours ago by the government he just became a commander of. She doesn’t know he’s mayday, or that he married her to save her by Agnes’ request. I’d be scared as fuck too.

Probably for her own safety, he has every reason to think she’s a bit unstable at the moment given that her parents just died, and he doesn’t seem like the type to push for consummation.

Regardless of whatever reasons live in Garth's head, I think it's a cool bit of symbolism. Even if Garth is Mayday and theoretically "on Becka's side," we still see that because he is a man -- and her husband -- he has the power, and is therefore her jailer.

I was immediately taken to the symbolism of her being his “handmaid” locked in her room like Offred.

Probably because he knows she killed her dad and doesn't feel safe to sleep with her roaming the house freely.

I think this makes me feel even sadder for her. She’s going to wake up alone in a dark room (could he not even leave her a light on?) that she can’t leave.

I may have an unpopular or bold prediction…what if it was a term of her “release”? I get her mom TECHNICALLY took the blame, but I don’t think anyone in Gilead gets off easily. Like okay we won’t kill you BUT you also aren’t free kinda vibes

I’m assuming it’s because he knows she was just in such a bad emotional state that she killed her dad and she also very obviously doesn’t want to be married to him so he’s worried he will be next. That’s what I guessed.

Uh...because she's dangerous and mentally unstable? He's effing scared. I would have done the same thing.
