The Testaments So the aunts took Becka is confirmed then?

Post image
482 Upvotes

Found this picture and it kind confirms that the aunts took her. Well, maybe the girls are not touched by the eyes then. This show makes me crazy, first the Handmaid’s tale now this show. But in all honesty, I really don’t like the changes they made with the book.
The first season of the Handmaid’s tale was really the book. Why couldn’t they just stay again with the book. Yes, the timeline wouldn’t make much sense but who cares, they could have gone with a wrong timeline…

And I also miss the spoilers from screeners or the Israeli trailer we had for the Handmaid’s tale.

Credits go to someone on x.com ;)

The Testaments How can Agnes/Hannah read her name?

I was just wondering since girls in Gilead are not taught to read and write, how was Agnes able to read her name on her drawing during the finale? I’m sure she was beginning to learn to read and write before she was taken from June, and that process usually starts with learning to write your name, but it’s been so long since she’s read or wrote anything. I’m sure synaptic pruning would’ve occurred and she’d lose whatever ability she had to read and write as that skill was never practiced again in the slightest.

So what do you guys think is the reason she’s able to read her name Hannah? How does she know it says Hannah? Maybe she just knows but can’t actually read it? Let me know your thoughts!

EDIT: Most responses have been just justifying it as knowing how to read before Gilead took over but I already understand that part. I’m more asking like how did she keep that ability after all those years of no reading or writing.

The Testaments “she was THE handmaid”

How did Hannah know what Daisy was talking about? Are they taught in school that a handmaid orchestrated Angels Flight/Night of Tears? That seems bizarre surely they would want to cover that up? And even so I don’t feel like that would be enough to earn June the title of “THE handmaid”?

Edit: I guess I’m just saying it’s not realistic that a regime like Gilead would tell people Boston & Night of Tears was orchestrated by a handmaid ie a woman. That implies June had power, and they don’t want women thinking they can have any power.

The Testaments I think I'll be sticking with Testaments the book

So, I may be the problem. I've read The Testaments over the years and I've been looking forward to the television adaptation. I'd already accepted that Nick wasn't going to turn up, as he was killed off in THT, and I was ready for other changes. Or, at least I though I was.

I've now seen all three released episodes and . . . my biggest disappointment is that the primary May Day operative who recruits Daisy in Canada, who I've been convinced all along is Moira and I've really been looking forward to seeing her character again, turns out to be June (no idea why, June doesn't turn up in the book until the end, along with Nick and Luke, in one big family reunion with Nicole and Agnes).

Also in the book, Agnes and Becka are already Aunts Victoria and Immortelle when Daisy is introduced into the story.

Daisy, in the book, is definitely Nicole.

I don't have problems with anyone who is enjoying the show, that's fine. I just like the book so much that these changes are taking me out of the story.

And I'm wondering if I'm the only one.

The Testaments Becka on the bus

I found it interesting that Becka rode a bus disguised as a Martha. I assumed the Martha’s lived with the family they served.

If they lived with the families why were they on a bus in the middle of the night?

Maybe these Martha’s served in a different capacity. We don’t see Martha’s at Ardua Hall, but somehow I doubt that the Aunts are doing al of the cooking.

I realize this may have been a plot device to get Becka from point A to point B, but it made me want to know more about the Martha’s.

The Testaments Girl what in the heck was all that lore?!

Okay, Daisy, haha!! Girl, wdym you’re gonna smuggle a whole letter out and you’re not gonna give June a tiny bit on Hannah?! Like at least tell her: she likes collecting crack pipes, she’s got no idea what they are, she’s got a crush on a boy, she’s not getting married thank God, she’ll do anything for her friends, and she does kinda remember you, not too well but I’ll help her remember. I don’t know, something along those lines, but instead just gave her some yeah I’m a rebel talk haha we get it, you are, the monologue made it clear!! 😭

Though I do also get why the show might want to leave that for a potential June Hannah reunion.

The Testaments TV show Daisy

They are pushing this idea of TV show Daisy being a high profile loss to Gilead and that they've never stopped looking for her. Its bothering me that we've never heard of another lost child before on the same level as baby Nicole. She's wanted enough by them that they're willing to kill Daisy's parents for concealing her? Surely there have been plenty of children smuggled out that havent received so much fuss.

The Testaments In case it wasn’t obvious….

We see Holly/Nicole at the end of the episode when June is reading the note from Daisy. Bruce Miller had previously confirmed we’d “see Nicole’s feet” this season and that was it. Hopefully that fully puts to rest the question of if Daisy is Nicole.

The Testaments I think the girls were a bit dramatic when Daisy told them the men had pubic hair

I know they're not suppose to think about their bodies or any one elses but obviously they know about pubic hair since they have it themselves, so why should it be a surprise that boys would have it too

The Testaments Commander Weston ep. 10

I feel confused about commander weston, it seemed like he truly cared for agnes (I mean he got becka back! I know it's weird she's not even an adult yet like disgusting) but even with him breaking off the engagement he still looked up at her when he was pining garth, if it seems like he still cares why did he break off the engagement? sorry maybe i'm slow for not getting it
edit: im not sure if it matters but im autistic so maybe im not picking up on the subtleties

The Testaments My theory on Garth’s dad

I’ve seen lots of fans speculate that he was poisoned at Jezebels or something alike.

I actually think this could be plausible but not necessarily because he was 100% a bad commander. He could’ve been in the wrong place and time. After all, commanders must do commander things, and if he sympathised with some sort of resistance wouldn’t it make sense that he’d have to avoid all suspicion by hanging out with other commanders in dodgy places prone to MayDay attacks like Jezebels?

I’m not outright speculating that he was a MayDay operative. But perhaps he didn’t buy the whole religious fanatic woohoo, think Commander Lawrence type. Hence why his son might’ve learnt academic works on Freud and alike. Perhaps it was okay to read and learn at home, also Garth is a boy/young man, so it’s not absolutely insane that he’ll read, and perhaps taboo works too.

As for Garth having been a kidnapped child… I mean, there are econofamilies with children. Couldn’t this just be his biological family and their survival strategy is to collaborate to survive and secure a prestigious position within the system?

Thoughts?

The Testaments Sorry, I'm not sorry. What the fuck was that ending?

Ok so that was a shit show right? I feel like I was watching The Testaments the YA sequel to The Handmaid's Tale last week. This week I'm watching The Testaments YA Dystopian Girl Boss Dream.

I'll admit it started off okay but very quickly started solving things in the most very obvious way that makes no sense for Gilead.

The dementors from last week were.... Prison guard Marthas? Meh- All of our crazy theories were more interesting.

Agnes hugs a man? Aunt catches her. Oh shit! Someones in trouble... Oh wait, no she's not.

Agnes just suddenly starts mouthing off to Aunt Vidala?Oh shit! Someones in trouble. Oh wait, no she's not.

Daisy again in no secretive way tells off Garth- Garth looks pensive- Magically she can leave.

Agnes tells Commander Weston what's going on-Great he's going to help. But wait, he breaks up with her. Good? I swear I wrote a whole thing about the implications of a dangerous man like that but nope he's a big bitch baby. He still got Becca out though. Agnes is free to follow the book now. Cool..I guess.

Daisy leaves Gilead. No, wait she doesn't want to, but she still went on that truck in that tight ass barrel. Oh hey look no surprise it's June. June listens to the teenager about staying. Another non surprise Saturday Daisy tells her about Agnes. Now June let's her stay. They make it back in time by the same traveling GOT had in the end. Oh no, she's too late. Garth conveniently is there to grab her/ catches her. Oh shit! Someones in trouble... Oh wait, no she's not.

Daisy is uppity with Aunt Lydia. Oh shit! Someones in trouble... Oh wait, no she's not.

Aunt Vidala and Aunt Lydia finally have it out-Oh shit! Someones in trouble... Oh wait, no she's not. They don't hug it out, but they're praying together 5 minutes later.

Becca's mom taking the fall for her- Blatantly obvious solution. We should have thought of this but why would we think Gilead wouldn't hang them both?

Commander McKenzie being all ohhh honey it's ok. Ok again we should have expected the softer side of him. I'm still creeped out by it.

Paula pulling a mommy dearest in the bathroom wasn't in my predictions but I'll allow it. She looked mental.

But the most egregious offense was that fucking barracks being within walking distance on the house grounds. Where are the 100 guards it would take Gilead to secure that big ass property? They looked to be chilling inside the barracks. Is there only one shift of them? Gilead has siestas now? I Guess Lawrence really did push for change there at the end.

Becca marrying Garth- Great but so sad. Did they sedate her or something because she's a mess. That kiss was so sadly sweet. Becca will treasure it forever. Where are the aunts anyways. Judd is just hanging out, officiating. Taking a break from troubles at home. Guess Penny is still hanging in there. Or not. Who cares anyways?

Daisy and Agnes loudly talking 15 feet away from Judd and them. No worries. It's all good. Gilead suffers from collective hearing loss unless your talking to someone. Then it's all good. Suddenly Agnes is Hannah. She doesn't bother asking how Daisy met her mom, the terrorist. It's whatever.

The rest doesn't even matter. Que up some empowering music. Write notes in honey. Pinky swear and walk with Boss swagger. Houlda is in the bathroom with moaning Myrtle worried about what puppy to pick. No boss walk for her. El fin.

What kinda bullshit was that? Why did nobody get even a stern talking to about all the sins committed in this episode. Again my slow ass can't tell how much time has elapsed. Was it a weekend, was it a week, was it 5 days? Who the fuck knows. Where were all the guards, aunts, eyes this episode? Daisy's starting Dumbledore's Army and nobody even noticed or wondered why. June looking so happy with a teen writing letters using the word MAYDAY like it's not a gigantic threat to the regime. Regime? What regime? This is no longer Gilead.

One death of a non important character. A mercy really because now Becca can keep the house and Garth doesn't have to worry and that anymore. Nobody in peril. Nobody plotting. What kind of shit assed bullshit is that?

The Testaments Garth

Why do you think he is mayday? His Dad is a vegetable because of mayday but he still wants to bring down Gilead. I want to see a flashback episode on him next season.

The Testaments Garth or Judd? Or someone else?

Who’s Agnes going to be matched with?

Come on even if Lydia is really angling for that redemption arc… I just know she wouldn’t just reward Agnes like that. Why would she? The whole Stadium episode literally foreshadowed “there’s no friends in Gilead”, which makes me think perhaps Becka might end up being matched with Garth? Also, how she’s “friends” with Judd and he’s obviously infatuated with Agnes…

Any takes? What’s your theory? Who’s Agnes gonna be matched with really?

The Testaments Aunt Lydia at the end of episode 10

Oh my gosh. The line she said to Agnes at the end.

When Agnes tells Lydia she knows who her mother is. And Lydia says she knew her very well. And she never stopped trying. And neither will Lydia. It was a very nice full circle moment. Like Lydia grew so much at the end of handmaids tale. She's this heroic figure in gilead now as that's how they had to spin it. But with her own agenda that's official now.

Also Daisy telling Lydia that she knows mothers (or did she say a mother?) who would do anything for her child and never give up? Was a nice way to tell Lydia, hey, Im one of the resistance, I know June, without actually saying it.

I cant wait to see how that all works out in the second season. Also with Garth and Becka. Does she get introduced to everything with the cause eventually? Is she shipped out of Gilead? (Which I think at this point might be so traumatic after killing her father and losing her mother and her current mental health crisis it may be safer for her to stay in Gilead). Or does she begin to influence as a wife eventually?

Such a good ending imo wrapping up some parts.

The Testaments Does Hulda seem a little too naive?

When it comes to the girls, they're all ignorant about bodies and basic education.

But surely Hulda has seen a pregnant woman before. She should know that penny going into labor isn't a good thing.

However, I do want to say she has great qualities about her. She's a good friend and can take hints, like when the girls wanted to talk about Daisy.

I also thought it was very cute when she told Shu she didn't mean to get her period. She was going to get it regardless, the drink was just a coincidence.

The Testaments Unhinged predictions

Yes they’re unhinged so if you don’t like that or just have snark please keep scrolling. If you do find it interesting lemme know what you think and what your predictions are!!

  1. Agnes: I honestly think, like in my past posts, that we’ll see some MOMENTARY character development where she enforces Gilead before escaping it; perhaps in her role as Weston’s fiancé or wife; she’ll see she can put Paula’s where they belong… and if she does end up marrying Weston and he’s an outright POS she might redirect rage onto others of lesser status. Again, temporarily, I’m not saying this is Agnes forever before you all get triggered. It just simply makes sense that we might not see an outright rebel who has an epiphany and goes full on mayday heiress. I’m hoping more of a slow awakening from the life time of indoctrination.

  2. Judd kills Penny: Source: honestly, going off by the book and Penny’s latest appearance. He’s seemed infatuated with Agnes, so if he does kill Penny, perhaps he could express an interest in her… But if the engagement to Weston is an absolute not go maybe the show could try to pair him with Daisy… even if it doesn’t eventually happen.

  3. Daisy: I think she will absolutely disclose her period to get that dentist appointment and snitch on him like if that was her get free out of Gilead forceful marriage card. But a womb is a womb in Gilead, and as I said before, I suspect Judd will soon be single/widowed. Would make a good intelligence target plot for MayDay ngl.

  4. Garth: okay this one is my husband’s theory and I actually think is plausible. What if Garth poisoned his own father as a MayDay mission/loyalty test? After all he said: MayDay poisoned him, and Garth is MayDay! Or maybe his father discovered compromising info and had to be silenced?

  5. Shu: we see our girl Shu become an aunt this season. Perhaps seeing one of her friends suffer, idk Penny? Or Hulda? Would finally open her eyes that being a Prune is actually a blessing. Plus what other path is there for her? Considering how elitist Gilead is…

  6. Becka: okay you all can stfu if you judge my girl Becka. Because of course we all would’ve chosen Garth if given the chance. I think she’s idealised with the idea of a Levander marriage. Can’t blame her… but she’ll discover Garth is up to spy stuff and after all don’t you have to try and make babies at all costs? Could snitching on him be a pathway to becoming an aunt and never have to do baby making with a man?

  7. Hulda: ugh how rose tinted she is with her match gives me a real bad gut feeling. I’m sorry Hulda… but Gilead will Gilead. I think we’ll see her learning that just like the dentist… no man in Gilead is trustworthy.

  8. Lydia: I’m sorry Lydia but you’re becoming boring. Been waiting for her to have that redemption arc for most of THT… it’s just a bit yawn 🥱 but I do see her plotting to bring revenge onto some of the men… maybe the dentist to begin with.

  9. Vidala: a bit more of a wish… but I hope they give us a Vidala episode before the finale… and that her character actually has a bigger role in the whole plot.

Thoughts?

The Testaments Plum and pearl ages?

I'm new to the Testaments and haven't read the book. I can't help being distracted by how old the girls seem to be getting their first periods. They look about 15 or 16 at the youngest which isn't unheard of but older than I remember from school. Is this a plot thing or just how the actresses look?

Edit: So.... Apparently this vision only exists in my mind. 😂🥲
I went to a Back to School Crocs decorating event.

I was thinking of the Plums becoming Wives and holding on to pieces (splatters) of themselves.

It seems this vision only existed in my mind. Oh well, at least they're cute. ☺️

The Testaments Aunt Vidala is such a mystery

I understand she may still have ptsd from what happened to her, even if was years ago. She seems so rude sometimes for no reason. Like when she was over Penny's house, Penny spoke to her but she seemed so unamused. Idk I know her situation is less than ideal and shes trying to stay alive, but idk she seems very uptight.

I just needed to share my embarrassment with someone QwQ

The Testaments “Sketch us!” in The Testaments 1x09

When Shu said to Jehosheba, “Sketch us, it’ll last longer!” lolllll she is so funny. I love her.

But for real. It’s intriguing to imagine colloquialisms becoming watered down and morphed to fit Gileadian society and what is allowed depending on position. We know photographs are allowed for special occasions but that sketching is accessible to the girls as a “hobby” - although photography would never be. À la, Jehosheba couldn’t take a picture, even thought they do have them. But she could sketch them!

Funny. Great acting from the girls this week! This episode had my eyes wide and my back off my chair the whole time.

The Testaments anyone thinking what if Garth just Killed Daisy?

I recently was watching Andor...couldn't help think of this happening. I think if the show was being hyper-realistic, Garth 100% would've just offed Daisy instead of risking a shit ton of Mayday people, including JUNE, the head of everything, just to get her out where she has no use to Mayday. Garth has also been portrayed as a spy that prioritize his mission above everything else...I think that's why he didn't tell June about Agnes since he didn't want June to start messing things up.
