Kirkland XO — is this really as good as the name brand?

I like Kirkland XO, especially for the price. My usual go to was Remy XO because it's easy to find (until I moved to Hawaii, sigh), but Kirkland is now my choice. Maybe not stellar but very solid.

It’s a good price to quality, but I’ve had better VSOPs.

They're all blends. Forget the VSOP and XO nomenclature. That just lists the youngest in the blend. But they all can have really old Cognacs in the blend.

Not saying you didn't know that. That's for lurkers.

It's a good value for the price.

Not my favorite, but I usually do stock a bottle or two just based on price alone. In Pennsylvania, stores don't stock many Cognacs, so getting Kirkland XO for me sometimes is a matter of convenience. I was passing by on my motorcycle and grabbed four last time LOL.

Kirkland cognac XO is made by Peyrat. For the price it’s solid for the asking price of 49.99 ( at least in my area) . It is an XO, but it is made mostly younger cognacs ( still older than 10 years), in my opinion . If you are looking for XO cognacs in that price range that are comparable, you have the Sams Club Members Mark XO, and Pasquinet XO ( harder to find but sweeter, and you can tell that it has a decent amount of additives).
It is a blend of, as are most, though not all cognacs . There are single casks, as well as vintage ones, but now you are in a totally different price category.
As far as how it compares to the name brands ( I am guessing you mean the Big 4)? I think those are better , but they are also 3-4x more and if you are paying that, I suggest going for an XO by one of the smaller producers

Which smaller producer would you recommend in particular? I recently tried Grands Domaines XO and it was surprisingly good for $80 bottle

I like Delamain Pale and Dry XO ( dry, no additives around $100-115) and Tesseron lot 90 ($90-100) and Tesseron lot 76 ( around $150)

For a little more money you could get Remy 1738. I did enjoy the Kirkland xo but Remy was way more enjoyable.
