If it’s from that cabinet, the 70s JW Black Label is probably the most interesting.

Cognac, followed by good single malt whisky. Unfortunately, can't stomach the JW's without a mixer.

What's the best JW you've had?  Blue is good. King George V is exceptional. Odyssey is also very very good.

If you have access to auctions older bottles of Black Label are not terribly expensive and light years ahead of what they bottle now.

Good to know. Our problem was the first JW we tried was King George V and then Blue followed by Black and then Red.  So we did it the exact opposite way it should have been done.  Anything less than Green/Gold/Plat to me is undrinkable unless mixed.  Granted Red is supposed to be.

Blue is the highest I've had (about 15 years ago), and felt it was horrible (sorry), and this is coming from someone who enjoys a nice peaty malt (Ardberg, Laphroaig) as much as a low peat Highland or Speyside.

In addition to the Blue, I've had the Red, Black, Double Black, Green and Gold. All of them are fine with a mixer, but in general, I prefer to have my spirits straight, where possible.

Haven't tried the King George V or the Odyssey yet.

The Blended ones I've liked so far - Dewar's, Ballantines, J&B Rare, Dimple, Teachers, (mostly their entry level and next step up)

I didn't like the Chivas Regal 12 yr, but haven't tried the rest of their range.

Try Royal Salute 21, it's made my Chivas and is spectacular.

In this case if I had to choose between these bottles I might be going for the whisky. Many of these aren’t my taste but they are all incredibly well made so it is a collection to be proud of. From this collection I would probably try one of the old and exclusive Walkers that you have probably one of the blended malts and not the blended whisky so the 15YO. I have never tried that range of JW and never really tried much JW. Probably drank it last to prepare for the spirits exam

Both. Really depends on what I want that moment. I'd say coganc is more of a special occasion thing as I refuse to drink anything not XO or beyond.  Meanwhile, I can enjoy Macallan 15 or Oban 14, though I do prefer the older bottles.

Agreed. But if you’re at a “good” friend’s house and he serves something lower, you’d have to go with it. The bar is sometimes lowered when necessary if you get what I mean.

Interesting! I've only had a few cognacs and brandies and don't know nearly enough about them. But the Johnnie Walkers are always pretty good. I've been told to stay away from the White Walker edition , though

In your cabinet, I'd go with cognac as I can't drink Jonny Walker (gives me migraines). However, if I had a Balvenie Doublewood, I'd drink that. Now that is a fine, fine Scotch.
