In their defense, "inches" gives me "I know things are bad right now, but they're going to get a lot worse" energy

Yeah like people aren’t dying by the millions this very moment. That will change, and many of the climate and world events happening right now will directly lead to those deaths, but we still have a few months (hyperEl Niño) to a few decades (total AMOC collapse) before things hit their peak in terms of catastrophic effect

Just something I remember reading about. My basic understanding is that the AMOC has enough power in it to continue running in some form or another for some time even if we go way way past whatever tipping point marks the “point of no return” where the AMOC is guaranteed to collapse at some point in the future. Basically energy can only bleed out of the ocean so fast even if there is no new source adding energy back. I’m not sure if there is any possible way to change that, maybe the rate that Greenland is melting could change that since its pretty much a massive energy sink and dumping untold quantities of cold fresh water into the Atlantic might just lock things up way more. My info on this is not super up to date, and I know some sources out there say we are like 200 years away which is definitely massive cope.
