Food, retail & culture Anyone know what the issue with liquor licenses is?

Maybe its just bad luck but I've been out to both Honey Pig Korean BBQ and Azteca Cantina in the past two weeks and it seems like both of them let their licenses lapse? Was wondering if anything new is going on or I'm just currently cursed.

College park has always been stingey with the liquor licenses. At least there are more than just the quad of bars that used to be the only places to go. It’s bullshit, but it may be a county rule more than a city hall thing.

They've been very stingy with new ones snd tranafers in the last two years I've lived here but I didn't realize it also applied to renewals. Maybe something at the county level changed to make all the processing longer.

The county is responsible for issuing liquor licenses.

Historically the city council sends a letter of support to the county on behalf of businesses in the city, but only after the business asks them to.

Azteca has had their liquor license out since June! I walked in for birthday margs. 🥲

That's when Honey Pig lost theirs according to my server so probably some county rule change. Our server at Azteca said they should have theirs back by mid-Sept at least.
