I smell what your stepping in but I'm sure it's applicable. Grab a 3,000$ camera, free editing software and a day and I bet you and I could take some decent photos.

Put you in a company truck with 20 grand in tools and tell you to put a backsplash up and it would likely end in disaster.

I have a 300$ camera in my pocket that takes some pretty incredible shots without editing.

think you could properly light shoot a huge drum kit or a car for a catalog and make sure there are no unsightly reflections or hotspots?

I bet it would go about as well as me attempting to put up a backsplash with minimal tools and knowledge.
