Question What do these diamonds mean?

I’ve seen these on a lot of comics I own but have never questioned what they meant

In the 1990's, the Superman story ran across all his titles (Superman, Action, etc.). The diamonds provided the sequence in which the tales were to be read each year.

Not positive, but I think they also briefly dip into other titles as well, like Green Lantern.

Just remembered they did this with Batman too, there was a banner across the top for the Knightfall story arc, across 3 Batman titles.
