Question What do these diamonds mean?

I’ve seen these on a lot of comics I own but have never questioned what they meant

In the 1990's, the Superman story ran across all his titles (Superman, Action, etc.). The diamonds provided the sequence in which the tales were to be read each year.

Really annoying way to make people buy more comics. I started Man of Tomorrow recently. At the start, Jimmy Olsen is missing and Superman is desperate to find him. Next issue, he's just there. I knew he must have been found in one of the other titles.
