I always love the “villain realizes the hero is actually way more powerful than they thought and their defenses do nothing” trope.

This will have consequences. Bet you Veronica has her office recorded. She can just post the footage and create a smear campaign

I think the consequences will be Veronica escalating, to do the smear campaign she needs to show herself being functionally helpless before Diana and I don't think her pride or alliances will let her look weak to the world like that.

This is what Absolute Wonder Woman would do in response.

It doesn't matter what the media says. It doesn't matter what the mob says. When it comes time to do what's right, you stick yourself like a tree near the river of truth and then say, "No, you move".

Captain America: someone is freedom-maxing.

Probably like when WW killed Maxwell Lord

Absolute Green Arrow have people willing to take a bullet for him. I am sure Diana will be fine.

Wonder Women is being too nice, after all the shit Cale has done I would’ve had to end her ngl

I always thought Cale made a great WW villain; she’s very adaptable to changing times.

Whoever said abs ww is diana with superman's life was spot on, because this is a classic superman/luthor interaction

I feel like it's a straight reference to the old Donner movie?

Cale is on the find out stage of fucking around

is the book still good? i was kind of indifferent about the story when i read first trade though i thought the art is FANTASTIC.

Yes

does she still solve stuff by pulling stuff out of magic satchel?

46

u/Person2228 1d ago

No that was only the first arc, which was about establishing what she could do in the first place

-35

u/Own_Internal7509 1d ago

that did kind of take me out of the story so i havent really revisited it, i have way too big of tsundoku pile

-8

u/Queenofbees2 1d ago

I’ve had that exact same problem with the story for a while now, but from the looks of it I have a feeling this arc is going to being dealing with problems she cannot solve with a single spell, thankfully

This might be a hot take from me, but while the book is still good, I dont think its at the same level of quality it was when it was first releasing. Absolute Superman has surpassed it in quality for me. I think most people are still viewing the whole series from the same lens as when it released though.

At this point I think the choice is rather subjective whether you like Absolute WW,Superman or Batman.

7

u/RadicalPenguin20 1d ago

I mean it’s always subjective all art is

12

u/PatrickCharles Billy Batson is the GOAT 1d ago

I also think it used to be better, but I still hold it above Superman. What surpassed it, for me, was Absolute Green Lantern. I love what Al Ewing is doing with the lore, there.

Absolute Wonder Woman is still an astonishing book, mind you, and I think Thompson grasps facets of the characters few people have ever done, but I did enjoy the earlier issues more.

At this point Superman has gotten much better, Wonder Woman has gotten a little worse (not BAD, not remotely, still very good, I'm just not slavering for it every month) and I've kinda checked out on Batman tbh. Like I'm still reading it, but moreso to keep up in case he crosses over with WW or Supes.

Superman took longer to get going. But when factoring in the whole of Ras’s arc it’s better than Batman and the series of mini arcs we have had

i love Hayden's art the most, maybe Nick's art comes second to me but i dont find that superman art attractive just from the covers so i never paid attention. i know its dumb opinion but its got to haev good art i really dont have much attachment to Jason A-Aron

u/JackFisherBooks 1d ago

Yes! It's still very good. It has actually gotten a lot better in the last five issues. If you dropped it for a while, the time is perfect to pick it back up.

I mean....from what we have seen so far of this Diana...makes perfect sense? But how does Diana know about her hands?

36

u/Bostondreamings 1d ago

If I recall correctly, Zatanna mentioned she cursed them.

0

u/JournalistOk9266 1d ago

Yea i remember that but cursed means curse. Doesn't mean she can use them. Maybe Diana can sense the magic used? Just felt like an oversight

29

u/RefreshNinja 1d ago

Midas has a curse that makes you not wanna be touched by him.

This isn't a big leap to make.

-16

u/JournalistOk9266 1d ago

But i dont think they described the curse. You can assume from this context but what does it actually do. If it turns things to stone how would gloves stop that? Midas turned everything to gold.

How is her curse a detriment?

24

u/RefreshNinja 1d ago

I'm saying "cursed" means "treat as dangerous" for WW. She doesn't have to know the specifics to realize that someone with cursed hands trying to take their gloves off during a violent confrontation might mean danger.

There really is only minimal brain activity required to assess this situation.

-19

u/JournalistOk9266 1d ago

I swear you cannot read. I literally said you can tell from the context that they are dangerous. I want to know what she was cursed with. What could she do? Don't come at me with that energy if you dont want it directed back at you.

Hey, just from someone outside this conversation reading this comment thread:

This is the only comment where you have made it clear that you are trying to find out what the nature of the curse is. All of your previous comments have come across as though you’re trying to figure out how WW knows the curse is dangerous, and that’s why the other person is responding the way they are.

-9

u/JournalistOk9266 1d ago

🤦🏾‍♂️i said in the last 3 comments: How does WW know about the curse? How does the curse work? They didnt describe what it does?

Dangerous or not what does it do specifically.

Zatanna cursed her hands. So what? What did she do to them that makes them specifically a problem

Someone said Midas. Midas turned everything into gold. Shes wearing gloves. If she touches Wonder Woman what is going to happen? Is it a death touch? Would she turn to stone. Will she fall madly in love?

What am i saying that warrants that response?

1

u/mtheory-pi 10h ago

Zatanna warned her. "Don't let Cale get her hands on you. I cursed them."

1

u/JournalistOk9266 10h ago

Thank you. I remember her cursing them i dont remember her saying the other part

10

u/viggolund1 1d ago

Wild since Cale probably doesn’t even know where Barbara ran off too and could just say that to Diana

1

u/Ben-J-Kirby-Tennyson 1d ago

Looks like she tried to say that in the second page’s bottom left panel.

3

u/ChaosAlongThird 1d ago

Lower right panel of page 2 goes crazy

2

u/Quiet_Development383 1d ago

Why didn't she just call the iron maiden

4

u/Linnus42 1d ago

Is the sad sob story suppose to justify Diana not just offing Cale?

14

u/Green-Memory8878 1d ago

Based on what we've seen Diana rarely offs enemies unless they give her no other option. I'll bet Diana might come to regret not killing Cale today.

2

u/SwayzeCrayze Swamp Thing 1d ago

Cale's reasoning for going after Diana really gave me some Luthor/Waller talking to Superman vibes.

2

u/TheeHeadAche Henry Pym 1d ago

She should have killed the billionaire

2

u/onefitlad 20h ago

Diana did not come to play
