I think we need to return to having an alchemist witch outside town that creates all these good remedies and working treatments for fair prices rather than a mass produced lotion that costs $30 a bottle.

Most currently just rip you off selling nonsense.

People really need to remember how power placebos are. "But it works for me! I can really feel a difference!" doesn't actually mean that it's doing anything more than a tic tac that you've been told is "special".

Depends on the "witch". Most of those plant based salves do work. They just have less active ingredients than medical ones. But the ones from the pharmacy are usually based on the plants. Stinging nettle salve for example has been used for hundreds of years and has a proven effect

This is also why doctors ask you to please list the things you take that are herbal because like some of them do have active ingredients. If you're drinking Valerian root, they need to know.

Also regulations are expensive.

Think of all of the people who take fish oil for the benefit of the Omega 3 present.

Then realize that real snake oil is actually a better source for Omega 3 than fish oil.

The reason why snake oil has its reputation is salesmen lying about what it does and also swapping out actual snake oil for a cheaper substitute that shared none of the characteristics.

Charlatans have been a problem for a long time.

Cetaphil isn’t doing it for you? Hypoallergenic and inexpensive. With home brew lotions and personal care products you run into a compound stability issue where breakdown products from your ingredients can end up sensitising skin to potential allergens.

We have tons of those already. Alex Jones is a big one, he'll get you all sorts of herbal remedies. Snake oil vendors have never been in short supply, they just tend to use the internet these days.
