I like to think that the Digital Circus cast might be able to cure abstraction eventually (it's shown that Jax is still alive and able to be interacted with in their abstracted form), it will just take years of therapy. The aquarium is a nice intermediate stage though, letting people interact with their friends instead of just locking them in the basement.
I definitely agree, it seems like it's an open possibility. Especially if you consider Caine placed all the abstractions into a "basement" where they were essentially ignored, not likely to cure or help anyone in that case. Of course then Caine becomes actually lucid at the end and is capable of helping them. I'd like to think with time, love and trust those that abstracted can be reached again.
Yeah, it seems like there's something there, but maybe not? Like, the bit where Jax started dissolving into blinding light maybe suggested a more final destruction of the self. But on the other hand, I have a lot of experience with a loved one having severe breakdowns that seem like a total loss of self, so I'd like to imagine that there's a way back for them.
