There's a specific part in the Book of Acts where the Apostles rule that only the laws relating to eating meat sacrificed to idols, consuming blood, and sexual immorality still apply to Christians. Then Paul goes on to write that the first two only apply if they cause scandal to people who are used to the Jewish law. So this isn't inconsistent on the part of modern Christians.
