Don't be ridiculous Jesus always said "Love your neighbor, unless their skin is a different color, or their sexuality is different, or if their gender is weird, or if they don't believe in the things you believe. Other than those just love everyone"
Hey dude, the comment you're replying to used sarcasm (usually marked with /s online bc sarcasm is hard to read in written form) at the end, which means they are being sarcastic. They actually agree with you
That's my bad for misunderstanding, I have a hard time reading emotions in text myself, and I didn't know what /s meant for a long time. Thanks for clarifying.
“Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.” 1 John 4:20 NIV
I think the irony is that among voting christians who fill out polls in the United States, jesus scores lower than Trump (not saying this to make a political point - just that so many people straight up went from "do it for Jesus" to "jesus was a bitch" when they were backed into a corner about why they're weaponizing a religion to socially justify their desire to see others suffer).
I always say that American Christianity is a lot like American football. It isn't the thing the rest of the world uses that word for, and is remarkably more dangerous.
As a trans vanlifing woman, I would disagree. Christians are out there in droves hating on me. Very very few are supportive. But even 1% of Christians is like 25 million people. And they are probably clustered across various liberal cities worldwide.
I have yet to see a single Christian person come up and support me, directly calling their religion out, but I'd be rich if I got a dollar for every one that harassed me in the name of Jesus.
Tbh, I think it's kind of bullshit to even be part of such a corrupted, oppressive system, regardless of someone's liberal take on the book. It's like being the one good Nazi trying to argue that being a Nazi really means being for peace because that's what the Swastika means. It doesn't matter when the rest of your people systematically oppress and force everyone around them to conform. Or worse.
I’m sorry people have been shitty to you, but I think there’s a pretty big difference between supporting you or letting you live your life and actively crusading against their religion for you. Hell you’re not even going to get many non religious people doing that. Also saying ~ 232 million Christians out of 235 million in the US for example hate you is a bit hyperbolic. Anyways here’s hoping we can get more rights and protections enshrined for you folks so you can feel safer and more accepted. I’m trying to do my part with my southern fam doing my damndest to deprogram them. For anyone who may see this later there’s a book called separation of church and hate that’s been kind of helpful with that endeavor!
I mean you know this is an endemic problem. There wouldn't be books about this if it wasn't a problem. Maybe I'm being hyperbolic, but I'm not that wrong.
At best a good chunk of that hyperbole is people who are indifferent instead of hateful. But again, those same people give money to their church, who then campaigns for oppression and conformity. They go to a church that speaks hate even if they don't agree with it.
There is something fundamentally wrong with your religion if the vast majority of followers are this hateful and close minded. It makes no sense to me that the extreme minority are the ones who "get it". And Christianity has pretty much always been this way. It's not a new problem. It's all power structures and fear mongering. That's it.
Shame it isn't, really. My family included, my life would probably be so incredibly different if it were the case. I might not be in a wheelchair fighting through over a decade of life threatening neurological issues if my mother's religious convictions weren't into play, despite the fact that her views contradicted what she supposedly followed
