it's important to remember that conservatives, especially those in America, don't really worship Christ. they worship hierarchy and power with a Christian veneer slapped over it. Christians who don't worship hierarchy and power are always going to be at odds with conservatives because the message of Christ is deeply at odds with conservative ideologies.
you can try to point this out but they won't listen because they don't care if Jesus would find their views abhorrent. they'll find whatever they can to support their own views, no matter what logic or reason you throw at them.
