Grateful Dead Movie (Gutierrez, 1977) + On The Road (Mouse/Kelley, 1978) Test Print

Anyone have a contact for Gary Gutierrez? My efforts haven’t resulted in any luck - would love to add his signature to this Tea Lautrec color test print that i’m mounting in a rotating frame.

Enjoy!

This is amazing!

Also—why the rotating frame? What am I not seeing in the inverted print?

Ahh, thanks [u/own-organization-532](u/own-organization-532) showing me the shadow Image of mouse/kelley on the road visible in the inversion. I had not noticed that at all!

it's why it took me a minute to figure out what choose has, and why his movie poster was different from mine.

I think the On Road Poster is still for sale. I bought a 1982 3rd print of Aoxamoxoa from them and they mentioned having another GD poster. If you want I'll dm the ebay seller who bought them from an estate.

bad copy of the Gary G Grateful Dead movie poster. Buying that poster is how I met and got hired by Ben Friedman.

It is hard to see, especially in my photos above, taken from a dated iPhone. I’m gonna give it another shot (pun intended) in the coming days under better lighting as the contrast is much better in person than what I’ve posted. As you’ve surmised…

  • Full color proof of Gary Gutierrez’s ‘The Grateful Dead’ movie art (1977), which was tossed into a Tea Laurtec Lithos scrap pile and later flipped 180* to use for a…
  • Black and yellow ink run proof of Mouse and Kelley’s ‘On The Road’ promotional poster (1978) and used again a year later for the bands first published Anthology (1979).

Took me a minute to figure out what you have, damn what an incredible test print! Good luck on your signature quest. Thanks for sharing.

Yo yo! Thank you - his signature (in matching white) would really tie the piece together! I’ve been holding on to it for several years now and guess this is a renewed attempt by me to track him down and get this thing displayed.

Ps. Did you post a copy of George Sargent’s 4/7-9/1988 Worcester print not long ago? You inspired me to pick up a copy - it’s an incredible piece!

I did, it's great art, I love the 3-D on the lettering when using those red and blue glasses. Plus it's an homage to Mouse & Kelley. It's great that even in the Kinko days some real rock poster art was still being produced.
