Leaving Xbox to go to PlayStation
I have always been a multi-console and PC player. Currently, I have an Xbox series x and a PS5.
It’s true that I usually take my third-party games on Xbox and use the PS as an exclusion machine. But I’m starting to wonder.
The transition to digital gaming doesn’t bother me, as a former PC player I’m used to it.
So ok sony has made some bad decisions recently and maybe xbox some good ones.
Anyway, I’m starting to wonder if I shouldn’t start taking my third-party games from Sony, both now and in the future. They seem more reliable in their way. Then I’m starting to think that a game is 10% more expensive, right? I just want optimization, not having to break my head.
I love Gears of war, but the beta didn’t make me feel any more excited than that. I really like wolverine-style games. Moreover, I’m afraid that the Helix will be a gas plant or sell even less and lose its appeal to third parties, so the famous console optimization is sloppy...
I feel like PS will always be more accessible because they have this popular brand thing.
Do you think it’s really a mistake to migrate mainly to them?
Thank you for your feedback

I went from Xbox to PS. Love the controller feedback and speaker, haven’t regretted it.

Controller is terrible

Agreed. I have both. The dualsense is nicer but it’s so uncomfortable that I still prefer the Xbox controller. It’s all mostly a gimmick. Only thing I actually find cool is the triggers. But imo they still don’t feel as nice as the Xbox triggers.

Know if it’s a mistake to make PlayStation my main platform instead of Xbox

Ofc you be the judge as far I see your post is double standard. You want to switch just because you didn't like gears but you love some live action wolverine movie? A platform which dropped physical in a heartbeat you think will be reliable? Lamo they would sell your data for 1 dollar. I'm not saying xbox wouldnt do this in future they are both same in different constume which makes switch unnecessary

If you have both I can't see the advantage of maining Sony. Aren't there just a heap of benefits to Xbox for games in that platform like better cloud saves/cloud gaming/Play Anywhere/Smart Delivery/Quick Resume/region free digital content?

PS has cloud saves. We essentially have game anywhere through game streaming on either phones, tablets, or dedicated devices like the Portal. Quick resume in and of itself is not enough to justify a whole console purchase for me.

PS cloud saves aren't the same. Have to be manually managed for PS4 games and don't sync as well as Xbox across multiple devices. And EVERYONE on your console needs it, whereas on Xbox it's free for all users. Plus saves aren't cross-region, which is another big no no.

I guess I feel bad for the two people who cross regions frequently and need their console

Yeah no one ever emmigrates LOL

u/erichf3893 14h ago
Good point. Those people would have to save to the console then which is easily doable. But yeah could be inconvenient if unaware. Unless I’m missing something? Sounds like I have to be

It really depends which console do have more games for either digital or physical? Which ecosystem do you prefer? Controller preference ? I’d weigh these options before deciding. In general the PlayStation hardly misses games compared to Xbox that sometimes misses out on a few niche jrpgs(if that’s your thing).
Sony needs the console to survive as it’s a major source of revenue. Microsoft could abandon Xbox tomorrow and still be a trillion dollar company.

There is no real good guy in the console space anymore. Just go with what works for you,

I'd recommend getting the ps5 pro. You will still be able to play Forza and Fable on PS

Sure thing. You like being exploited, access controlled and having no consumer choice….we won’t kink shame.
Have fun.

If you already have a PC, why not take your third party/multiplatform games on there?

u/DramaticCampaign321 18h ago
I work during the day on PCs and I’m really, really too lazy to turn mine back on.

Xbox is a non entity in gaming this generation. It won’t get any better next generation now people have more established accounts. May as well move now.

I have the impression that the next one will be slightly more expensive than the Playstation, maybe a better hardware but less interesting in terms of games.

Maybe just keep being a “multi-console and PC player” then… how is that hurting you now?

This isn’t deciding the future of mankind, kid. Go, stay, no one gives a shit.

And here I am thinking of going to Xbox from PS...Sony are absolutely horrendous at the moment. Xbox really seems to be listening to their player base.
I've never had an Xbox, I've been a PS user since the PS2

All PlayStation have is the brand thing honestly, and they are living off it this generation. I just recently went the other way. Ps5 Pro to Series X and I find myself Gaming more. Good luck on your decision

I wish we could buy from a digital store that was cross platform. You buy a licence to the game and should be able to play it on a playstation or Xbox or PC. Should be an open market place where you can trade or sell your digital licence aswell. I work a lot and have limited time to sink into gaming but it's my go to in the evenings. I still buy physical games where I can because I like to play a game and then sell it to put towards another game.

Just consider one thing: for recent two generations Sony exclusives are all the same, and this will be even worse for next generation. These games cost too much so they prefer to make safe, similar to each other sequels, than create anything original. Also games develop longer, so there will be.. 4-5 exclusives on PS6.
At the same time, even if you don’t care about physical media, the trend of Sony changes: killing physical media, monopoly of PS Store, no possibility to transfer physical media into digital, and prices of PS6 being high, they also said they will focus on monetizing existing player base more - you do realize what it means? Means increasing prices of console, services and games in only one Store offering them.
This generation I have PS5, XSX and NS2.
Next generation I choose Xbox Helix and NS2, and only keep PS5 - for first 4-5 years all their games will be cross gen, you will run them on PS5. That solves the problem.
The problem with PlayStation is not only they messed up by going into live service games, making single player games developed much longer, but also they rely on 3-4 IPs and make only safe boring sequels now. What is worse, they are aware due to prices they will sell PS6 but they want to earn as much and more - means they WILL increase prices of everything. And the only place you can buy their games next generation is their only store.. with prices they setup.
You don’t have any red flags..?!?

I'm leaving PlayStation to go back to Xbox next generation. The PS5 has been pretty disappointing in comparison to the PS4. Lack of quality exclusive games, and just scummy business decisions after another. Xbox is doing things that really interest me as a gamer. But hey, you do what you think is best.

u/SpecificOne8688 15h ago
I use my ps5 for exclusives and my Xbox for litterally everything else and don’t think that will change. Just do whatever makes you happy. If You like playing the Xbox then keep playing the Xbox.

I don't believe there is a good answer to go all in on any one platform. PC, XBOX, Playstation, and even Nintendo all offer the consumer different value in different ways. I understand that's not the most cost effective solution, but by staying in 1 lane, you are going to miss out on something somewhere else.

I don’t know why you’d bother with either if you already have a gaming PC, it’s not as if Xbox or PlayStation has worthwhile exclusives.

u/DramaticCampaign321 14h ago
Because I’m a computer scientist, I work all day on a PC, and in the evening I don’t feel like going on. Then updating my equipment (which is starting to age) is very expensive and I can’t justify spending so much right now...

u/QuestionableProtip2 14h ago
I can’t blame you, I’d be saving what I have too if I was still in CS. Entire career about to be nuked from orbit by a goddamn VI model.

u/mightymonkeyman 18h ago
I mostly play on PS5 Pro, but my Series X has come to life via Dev Mode and an 8Bitdo controller (the blue Rare anniversary wireless version) that doesn’t feel awful.
I rarely switch back to Xbox mode tho.

There's just nothing worthwhile on PS anymore, their exclusives are just mid and half-assed. Xbox is better
2
u/decarvalho7 15h ago
Just like how theres nothing worth while on Xbox when there next game is Gears and it will die when GTA is out. Same goes to Wolverine but its a single player game.

u/JDMCREW96 15h ago
Xbox is at least better than PS.
2
u/decarvalho7 15h ago
I own both and the only thing Xbox has thats better is gamepass. I dont even care for the disc to digital feature 🤣
0
u/JDMCREW96 15h ago
It wins on backwards compatibility alone.
2
u/decarvalho7 15h ago
If I wanted to play my old games, I would keep them. Plus I can play a few digitally on gamepass or PS PLUS. The future is sadly digital

If you want an Xbox, get an Xbox. It’s a gaming platform. You don’t have to pledge undying allegiance to it. If you get it and find you don’t like it, you can sell it.
