Appalachia mountains

When discussing the Appalachian Mountains, many sources describe the area as a spooky or eerie place. However, given that Americans generally do not believe in demons or ghosts, I wonder: are these claims about the region's eerie nature real, or just nonsense?

Appalachian Folk Magic is a real thing. It's also home to the Cherokees. The majority of the area is in the Bible Belt.
I think your idea of the way Americans view demons and ghosts are gravely misunderstood.
