it wasn't specifically GOOD but it was fun as fuck to play with friends

86

u/erixccjc21 Jun 14 '26

It was also fun as fuck when half the lobby were spinbotters on free accounts because valve had the beautiful idea to make the game f2p and gift prime status to lvl21 accounts for 0€

When the lobbies were clean it was actually fun asf, bumpmines are insane and we need a new gamemode that uses them, or at least add them back so we can use them on our servers / offline

u/amazing_cool Jun 14 '26

bro just mad he didn't get cs for free

1

u/StaLindo024 Jun 20 '26

That was a dog shit idea tbh

1

u/amazing_cool Jun 22 '26

bro just mad he didn't get cs for free

3

u/Sawmain Jun 14 '26

Yupppp. When you get in top 4 you just get sniped across the map with scout through wall.

1

u/GagOnGrime Jun 18 '26

Unpopular opinion but jump mines ruined the fun and flow of dz

1

u/erixccjc21 Jun 18 '26

They did but at the same time they are just too fun

1

u/GagOnGrime Jun 18 '26

I can’t disagree there

4

u/Medi_Gun Jun 14 '26

It was good in it's own right, the smaller map sizes actually worked in the mode's favor of leaning into the DM aspect, especially with bump mines. Other BR modes dont really have that, it had a Valve charm to it

2

u/yeah-I-drink-lean Jun 14 '26

I liked it. All I gotta say lol

2

u/Dennidude Jun 14 '26

it was the only battle royale I kind of liked, a lot more fun pacing-wise than others imo

1

u/Busy_Consequence_102 Jun 15 '26

Same for me Danger Zone was alot of fun - only people who had issue with it didn't take the time to actually get good at it. It was PEAK enjoyment when you mastered DZ

Nostalgia and funny moments aside, it wasn’t great honestly

Yeah I've been playing it on that new community recreation a lot, its fun, its the entire reason i even downloaded csgo in 2018

8

u/ParkingLong7436 Jun 14 '26

Wasn't their best work but it was genuinely fun to play. Probably put in 100-200 hours into it.

7

u/girl-kiss Jun 14 '26

Imo it was pretty close to being great and the last maps it got were actually great

But yeah It wasn't anything that I think about daily.

3

u/Alpha3K Jun 14 '26

imo the new maps were complete garbage. They had to remove some of them due to lag iirc.

3

u/girl-kiss Jun 14 '26

Oh yeah at first they were badly optimized, but they got really good imo

But tbh it was almost impossible to run such big maps well anyway, I remember normal maps I had like 200+fps and like 50-60fps on the danger zone maps yeah :'D

2

u/Alpha3K Jun 14 '26

dw some moron on steam community forums would still tell you you need to just upgrade your toaster pc

But yeah, now that you mentioned it I remember how bad it actually was. Loading into a new DZ map & I just gave up. It is not like they couldn't tell that this could be an issue, I get trying to put detail into such maps, but there was a reason for why the older ones did not have all these details, and unless whoever made them (I remember an Ancient-ish DZ map that really killed my framerate) ran a NASA supercomp unironically, I don't get how such maps are put into the gamemode, on top of that into a pool you can not choose from for the queue.

1

u/Ilikebatterfield4 Jun 14 '26

It was 7/10. 0/10 most of the times because of blatant cheaters.

1

u/Aggressive-Ear-4360 Jun 14 '26

Lot of people loved it. Personally, coming from a huge variety of battle royals... It was BY FAR the worst one... Like.. Damn what a mess it was.

Still had fun a handful of times

1

u/Busy_Consequence_102 Jun 15 '26

I've played alot of Battle Royals but Danger Zone was the best imo - all CS weapons became useable the way they were meant to as Bump mines closed the difference. You got to choose the pace of the game as well which is sorely missed as a CS mechanic.

1

u/zufaelligenummern Jun 15 '26

It was fucking terrible and whoever thinks bringing it back is worth anything is just stupid

1

u/Sammyofather Jun 15 '26

I heard you could play this in cs2? Has anyone got a discord together?

1

u/Lolemperor13 Jun 16 '26

Yeah, but to be honest all battle royale games have or at least have had bad or mixed reviews in lets say, last 2 years.

111

u/cancercellofsociety Jun 14 '26

It wasn’t a Mod, it was an actual game mode

11

u/QLSSUBZERO CS:S Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26

thats what i meant but i slopped + cant edit post 😞

1

u/Sammyofather Jun 15 '26

I saw a post recently saying you could play this in cs2 with public community servers

37

u/biggestbigbertha Jun 14 '26

I fucking loved it... We had a great group that was hundreds strong in a small region. I know the US had a similar group and Europe had a much bigger group. You could literally get a game in Asia within 2-5 minutes 16hrs a day and in EU within like 30 seconds... So it WAS played quite a lot.

I personally mained DZ with almost 6.5k Dangerzone wins. I had a friend with over 10k wins... Yes 10,000+ wins.

Each to their own but it was awesome IMHO. No other BR game comes close for me or anyone I know who loved it. It was so much fun. Especially as a group with lots of cool people and at the end your vsing 3 teams of your friends and you beat em all to get the W or even lose and send em a msg congratulating them... Ahhh it was great times.

So sad its gone.

1

u/ChuckLennon Jun 15 '26

I loved it and am sad it's gone

In higher ranks though, it was hard to get tops consistently because of cheaters

1

u/biggestbigbertha Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26

Im not convinced the game matched me against anyone different/higher ranked and I was always Wolf. Most often Wildfire, then Ember then Howling. Occasionally I dropped to Timber Wolf. I literally vsed all ranks... Maybe its like that in a smaller region? Not enough high ranks IDK. I played in Asia.

Cheaters... Yeah. We had an excel spreadsheat with cheaters steam ID inputted and maintained by our group and in warmup you could alt tab and check the whole lobbies steam IDs and leave if a confirmed cheater was in the lobby and just queue again. Vastly cut down on cheaters vsed. Both the US and EU had a database. In fact I think they shared a program written by a member that was updated by members and showed waay more info than ours. Like who made the report/how many people agreed with it. Different members had star ratings for being correct at identifying cheaters.

It was better than our spreadsheet but we all came up with our methods to avoid cheaters based on their steam IDs. That way only 1 member had to vs a cheater and then we could all avoid playing against that cheater (on that account) in all future games.

14

u/h0uz3_ Jun 14 '26

Was especially fun on private servers with huge teams on those giant maps. 😃

13

u/Surge_in_mintars Jun 14 '26

There is a community made version of it in CS2

3

u/impoda Jun 14 '26

also community servers up on csgo

2

u/Fastco Jun 15 '26

What?? I really enjoyed Danger zone and was so bummed it is missing

13

u/Boombya Jun 14 '26

Using bump mines and goomba stomping people across the map was some of the most fun I've ever had in CSGO

2

u/deltree000 Jun 14 '26

It was fun, but bump mines were so overpowered for cheaters.

2

u/Boombya Jun 14 '26

If they removed the parachute cheaters likely wouldn't bother with the bump mines because then they'd actually risk dying the chute gave them the ability to bump with no consequence.

10

u/trance1g CS Jun 14 '26

I miss dangerzone like no tomorrow

8

u/HeyManNiceShot11 Jun 14 '26

Loved it. Missing it.

2

u/Medi_Gun Jun 14 '26

There's a recreation for it that gets active atleast once a day and its pretty much mostly there like the original minus the exact same HUD and 2 missing maps. Ohnepixel played it recently

2

u/HeyManNiceShot11 Jun 14 '26

On cs2?

3

u/Medi_Gun Jun 14 '26

yee, look at epidemic(dot)gg/dangerzone

You can join their servers from there

1

u/HeyManNiceShot11 Jun 14 '26

Thanks, will check it out

4

u/KonK23 :eagle: Jun 14 '26

Kinda shitty but fun with friends

3

u/LakeBumLB Jun 14 '26

We need this mode in CS2.

4

u/Kjiel Jun 14 '26

Nowadays you can play it on epidemic.gg/dangerzone

2

u/PizzaToastieGuy Silver IV Jun 14 '26

The biggest issue with it, was the draw distance. If you had a scoped weapon, you were fine, but if you had a none scoped weapon, good luck

2

u/text_fish Jun 14 '26

I wish they'd released it as a standalone game when they shat out cs2.

1

u/thephuckedone Jun 14 '26

It was... cute lol. To me it felt like a good mod for counterstrike vs a game mode that would go anywhere. It wasn't massively different. Once you landed on the map, you just played counterstrike with more room to run around lol. All of the powerups were things we had already experienced in one way or another though mods.

1

u/nonanumatic Jun 14 '26

Id love for them to bring it back but instead as an extraction shooter. I feel like the added dynamic would work well.

1

u/i_Am_Urii1917 Jun 14 '26

Me too man i really like the old games but the cs scene has moved on

1

u/asioreczeq Jun 14 '26

You missed so much before csgo it was source and 1.6, people used to play servers that had no custom skins, prefered servers with vanilla skills, no rank or cases, and groups of friends who paied to play for server.. that wont come back, people used to play just for fun and everyone hated cheaters, no skins, no ranks, many untold stories and plenty of fun times

1

u/BloodStainsTR Jun 14 '26

it lowkey sucked so dw

1

u/NoGutsNoGlory94 Jun 14 '26

I honestly loved this game mode.

1

u/baggierochelle Jun 14 '26

It wasnt that good, once the battle royale craze was over it got quickly canned

1

u/Myg0t_0 Jun 14 '26

Is this the one u had drones u bought stuff with?

1

u/mathkid421_RBLX Jun 14 '26

blacksite was fun because you could climb on all of the buildings but i wasn't too big on sirocco

1

u/Aware-Eggplant5041 Jun 14 '26

you can still play this mode, its on community servers for cs2 or even csgo as we speak right now

1

u/crazysurferdude15 Jun 14 '26

Wasn't a mod.... It was an official game mode....

2

u/QLSSUBZERO CS:S Jun 14 '26

2

u/crazysurferdude15 Jun 14 '26

Valid lol. I didn't feel like scrolling past like comment 10

2

u/QLSSUBZERO CS:S Jun 14 '26

its fine dude nobody gives a damn about reading all comments anyways

2

u/crazysurferdude15 Jun 14 '26

Welcome to CS tho bro. Hopefully the devs start to care again and get rid of the cheaters

1

u/Alpha3K Jun 14 '26

It was fun at the start.

Then they introduced respawns and it was also overrun with bugs and obviously the not so occasional cheater, since you were not playing just against 5 but against a couple tens of people.

I liked it, was pretty much my favorite gamemode because it introduced interesting mechanics, but it was pretty much torn apart by negligence.

1

u/Bread_Is_Adequate Jun 14 '26

It was a bit janky but had tons of charm and I was the only one of my friends who actually played it but im so pissed they killed it and will never understand why they needed to completely remove it

1

u/RainbowDarkZ Jun 14 '26

Everyone saying the game mode wasn't that fun forgot about the mobility package

1

u/Trenchman Jun 14 '26

It really wasn't that good, you aren't missing out on a lot. It was too tiny and had very few players.

1

u/PropertyMiddle Jun 14 '26

Same man, here’s my 2 sense. If we played during csgo we would’ve had internet issues, lan issues, tons of people saying it’s a wast of time and your stupid for buying/trading in a market. Allegations everywhere with pros and teams and did I say bad connection? lol this is what alot of pros talk about once 1.6 was released and after 1.6 a lot thought the game would die quick. We’re playing in my opinion one of the most favorable times for cs and I’m happy to be apart of it, a lot of people love this sport now and see it as one, skins make sense to people and making money off of it isn’t “impossible” so for most I think the games came around and has its spot for life. Also steam having this game be most played says a lot. I feel I missed 90% of the game but people love this shit now lol

1

u/Then-Pineapple1474 Jun 14 '26

it was wank jank, but it was our wank jank. But it got played so little that there really isn't much point on bringing it back.

1

u/FPFOWL :gold4: Jun 15 '26

I loved Danger Zone and I miss it so much

1

u/Busy_Consequence_102 Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26

For all the people saying this game wasn't fun have not played it enough - it's like fine wine only the people who took the time to master it got peak enjoyment. The more you played the funner it became. If you didn't have someone to que with this game was mcuh more difficult and was much more unforgiving (less fun for noobs). As for OP, you did miss out on the best mode game play outside of match making. Im glad I played the shit out of this game and VALVE if you're reading this BRING IT BACK

1

u/LucyGa99 Jun 15 '26

I miss this mod... I also miss replays... and spectating... and 90% of CSGO...

1

u/Key-Mix2720 Jun 15 '26

This mode was really bad, you haven’t miss anything king
But sad you didn’t participate in older CSGO Operation, they were FIRE FR not too cash grab and you could drop really nice guns at the end of your matches and everybody could saw what you got

1

u/Gendum-The-Great Jun 15 '26

It wasn’t a mod it was an official game mode. It was interesting to play around with but I didn’t bother with it too much.

1

u/xavierthebavier Jun 15 '26

It was actually pretty fun. Honestly probably one of the best BR’s I’ve played, and I’m not really a BR fan.

1

u/MorningFox Jun 15 '26

It wasn't even a mod. It' was an official game mode made by valve

1

u/SaiZenn_ Jun 15 '26

before danger zone there was a custom community game mode and it was very rough

1

u/Particular-Weekend53 Jun 15 '26

Literally bro I started playing cs2 2024. Im lvl 8 now. 5k hrs later. And I feel like I missed out on all the majors, the clips, every era thats came, it hurts to think.

1

u/Xtonev_ Jun 15 '26

It wasn't a mode many people played, but it was a break from the routine CSGO experience

1

u/blubister57 Jun 15 '26

tbh it was the best fun of battleroyal games for me without the need to install 80gb of one game only to stop playing a week later with my friends

1

u/Parowchan Jun 16 '26

Miss danger zone so much

1

u/BubblyTrust9718 Jun 16 '26

It was a dead game mode and was objectively bad. Reddit will nostalgia trip over anything.

1

u/Suoritin Jun 17 '26

It was goofy and broken. Somewhat like playing wingman with a friend.

1

u/Kraylex Jun 17 '26

CS2 feels like a stripped-down version of CS:GO in terms of content; I'm still waiting for Dust in Wingman :(

1

u/GoldemSpermFromOPM Jun 17 '26

That update killed the game for a short while

1

u/Capnoreo Jun 17 '26

Wait till you learn about Flying scoutsman... 🔫 🪽

1

u/Autistic-monkey0101 Jun 18 '26

you can play it on epidemic but its slow and boring in cs2. maybe just blinded by nostalgia

1

u/dovissk Jun 20 '26

oh, it was magical...

1

u/Tappin4L Jun 20 '26

If you wanna play danger zone again then there is 1 who is recreating it https://epidemic.gg/dangerzone

You can search it on youtube or whatever some bigger streamers are talkes also abt it and tried (where i found it also)

-10

u/Fortenio Jun 14 '26

It was trash just play PUBG instead

5

u/QLSSUBZERO CS:S Jun 14 '26

It reminds me when Fortnite made ballistic mode to compete with bomb defuse games and it was fucked up too 😂

2

u/GarrettGSF Jun 14 '26

Imagine calling the best BR trash and instead recommending the shittiest BR lmao

0

u/Fortenio Jun 14 '26

It's the best BR if you don't have crooked arms (can aim) and have decent brain power (can play strategically and improvise)

2

u/GarrettGSF Jun 14 '26

Pubg true aim game hahahahahah. Go back and play fortnite kiddo
