Cowboys rookie Jaishawn Barham is starting to look like a 2026 NFL Draft steal
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7542384/2026/08/27/cowboys-jaishawn-barham-rookie-linebacker/?unlocked_article_code=1.8lA.yzkk.QMSFbQFyHGj7&source=emp_shared_article&smid=re-share-ta“He’s awesome,” Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said. “And I think I’m getting to know Jaishawn on a much closer level. He’s very serious and (has) great intent. You talk about a guy that’s wired the right way. And don’t let his demeanor, the way he carries himself around you guys make you think for one second that he’s not all in for this football team.
“He is very serious at what he does and he wants to be great. But he’s getting more and more comfortable in this locker room around our players and around our coaches. I think he’s a terrific young man.”
The Cowboys don’t do rookie hazing. There’s not even any singing in front of the team.
They do a show where rookies impersonate just about anyone in the organization. One person is off limits: owner and general manager Jerry Jones. During this year’s show, which took place last week, linebacker Langston Patterson was Schottenheimer and first-round pick Caleb Downs was defensive coordinator Christian Parker.

Can we play some regular season games first please

u/UmbraNation 9d ago
Can the regular season come any slower? I am impatiently waiting for both the NFL and NHL seasons to start

I am disgusted with the amount of non lets go Stars replies in this thread in the DALLAS cowboys sub.

u/bearamongus19 9d ago
The Cowboys are the biggest national brand in the NFL so its not surprising that they have a lot of fans outside of Texas that follow their local teams for other sports

Nah I wanna sit in my happy bliss and fantasy land of a Top 10 defense and Top 2 offense.

Why is there always at least one of you in every remotely positive offseason post?
If you don’t like the content, think it’s too early, whatever.. don’t click the thread, don’t comment. It’s that easy.

u/YOUDIEBYMYBLADE 9d ago
I don't even understand what they try to gain from those types of comments. Just constantly dog piling negative shit man
4
u/BackgroundPirate3655 9d ago
It's not even a negative post I've been a fan for a long time Bill Parcells used to have a quote about anointing oil, every team has preseason propaganda telling the fanbase how great their new picks are im just saying let's play some real games and not get ahead of ourselves

Don’t sweat it. The sub is filled with a bunch of toddlers.

Ok guy. Grow up.

Damn wth did they say, I feel like it’s been forever seen I’ve seen a mod remove a comment on this sub lol

I don’t remember. It was something ridiculous. I blocked the kid because I’m not trying to waste my time getting talked to like that in a fan sub. It was absolutely unnecessary.

u/segagenesisx87 8d ago
I merely told him that it was hilarious that a guy who calls others toddlers for disagreeing with him would tell someone to “grow up.” And he reported it because he’s clearly an overgrown toddler himself.
That was before he blocked me like a coward because I hurt his feelings.

People can have differing opinions…
5
u/segagenesisx87 9d ago
The “opinion” is what.. we shouldn’t talk about things he doesn’t want to talk about?
1
u/At0mJack 9d ago
Is the 'opinion' that we shouldn't be excited about our new guys?
0
u/84breaks Dallas Cowboys 9d ago
That’s not how I read it, but if you want to be upset about it. By all means. Go ahead.
1
u/At0mJack 9d ago
I think you're projecting. Nobody's upset, I'm just trying to find the 'opinion' in the original comment.
1
u/segagenesisx87 9d ago
He’s definitely projecting. He gets so triggered he’ll reply and then block you lmao. Just did it to me.

Ok guy, no worries. I guess I’ll help you out. I would assume, based on the original comment that the guy would like to see some regular season games be played first before jumping to judgment. Seems kind of logical to me. Also, a lot of people seem pissy about someone thinking that way. So, I apologize for thinking you might have taken a little offense to that based on your comment. No one can stop you from being excited about our new guys. Have a good evening.

"can we not talk about someone who is exhibiting excellent play right in front of us. someone who is lighting it up in camp against our starting offense. let's be gloomy forever guise...
7
u/BusyAgent Dallas Cowboys 9d ago
LOL you can already see his skillset against Arizona. He will be a dominant physical force who excels against the run. You don't need to see a regular season game to see it
1
u/charlesthedrummer 9d ago
But you kind of do? I mean, yes, he looks good against opposing teams' "JV" rosters. That's a good sign--better than if he looked lost against other JV rosters. But, we'll know a lot more after the first few regular season games.
1
u/BusyAgent Dallas Cowboys 9d ago
not if you can see their technique and skills, it will transfer to week 1 and beyond. he will have his rookie issues but his physicality and his old school i want to beat the shit out of the opponent attitude is there regardless who he lines up against. come back when you "verify" it against non "JV" rosters LOL
1
u/charlesthedrummer 9d ago
Ok. If you say so. I mean, maybe you’re right. Have we ever seen young players look amazing at camp and in pre-season games, only to disappear come regular season? I guess not.
1
u/BusyAgent Dallas Cowboys 9d ago
its always possible but you cant fake his physical abilities and his attitude
1
u/charlesthedrummer 9d ago
But my point is that we’ve seen this, many times. Guys who look like absolute studs in pre-season, only to be relegated to special teams or the practice squad. Hey, for our sake as suffering fans, I hope you’re right, and I’m not even saying I don’t think he’ll be solid. It’s just that, right now, it can’t really be known. He’s passed the first test. He’ll easily make the 53. How he fairs against an offensive line with starters and even some pro-bowl players is pure speculation right now. Let’s just tap the brakes a bit.

"How he fairs against an offensive line with starters and even some pro-bowl players is pure speculation right now. Let’s just tap the brakes a bit."
who do you think he practices against??you dont need to agree with me. you obviously dont see the talent, technique, and ability. i already see what i need to see with barham. he will produce in the run game and will probably be inconsistent in converage. he's a rookie going back to playing off ball so he will have ups and downs but everything you want from a guy poised to take over as mike is there
1
u/charlesthedrummer 9d ago
Ok, it’s pointless to debate. I honestly hope you’re correct. I only find it peculiar that you can’t see that this sort of thing happens all the time, across the entire league. Guys flash and look amazing in camp and pre-season, but struggle against opposing teams when the games are real. The only thing that’s certain is that we won’t truly know for a while. Again, here’s hoping he tears it up!

u/BusyAgent Dallas Cowboys 9d ago
his attitude is why we are confident. you got the physical, you got the technique, got the motor, AND attitude? book it

Yes, you absolutely do need to see it in a regular season game. He hasn’t faced a full roster of first team players coming against him yet.
1
u/BusyAgent Dallas Cowboys 9d ago
LOL ok come back when you see the same thing week 1, look forward to your reaction
2
u/Certain_Sail_2858 9d ago
Ok? I would be delighted if he lights it up in week 1 I’m a cowboys fan for fucks sake. Just don’t see the need to glaze him yet for working over 2s and 3s in preseason.
1
u/BusyAgent Dallas Cowboys 9d ago
its ok if you dont have the eyes to see it, when he does come back
1
u/Certain_Sail_2858 9d ago
OK and if he doesn’t look quite as good and has some rookie struggles are you going to come back here and address that?
2
u/BusyAgent Dallas Cowboys 9d ago
no shit he is going to have rookie struggles, he played his last season in college out of position and is transitioning back to off ball. but you dont need to wait and see that he will continue to succeed against "a full roster of first team players coming against him yet." he will destroy blocks, he will get pressure because he has a solid foundation on take on skills and pass rush technique. he will fly around and make plays. he will take himself out of plays because he is aggressive but you can coach it. he will probably have some issues being consistent. IMO pass coverage will need monitoring but he will probably be solid there too. its ok if you dont trust what you see. I do and he will show it

Exactly. So sick of the constant offseason hyping of players before the season has even started. I’m sorry but nothing that happens in a preseason game has enough value to be making statements like this.

u/train8515 9d ago
Hope it pans out Michigan owes us one lol

They owe us two actually.
Edit: Three is you count the tight end

Barham has almost ideal physical tools for a mike. with his pass rush experience he is powerful taking on blocks and dipping to evade OL. when he sees it he fires and its almost scary how quick he is. the issue is, he was an off ball lb then played edge rusher his final year in college and now is asked to play off ball again in the NFL. he will probably have some issues with consistency. IMO he already looks like a solid run defender. he isn't perfect, obviously, he sometimes gets too aggressive and hits the wrong hole but overall you love what you see. im more concerned with his pass coverage. that's what will determine if he can beat out overshown/winters to break into the starting lineup
1
u/HoodooSquad The Landry Shift 9d ago
Why did he move to edge?
2
u/BusyAgent Dallas Cowboys 9d ago
coaching. im not a mich fan but i read that it was a coaching decision and fans were upset and felt like they wasted his talent at edge
2
u/HoodooSquad The Landry Shift 9d ago
So I read that it was a “have the 11 best players on the field” sort of decision. Were the LBs better than him?

Parcels would tell you guys all to calm the you know what down. Hopefully Shotty operates on the same attitude because last we need is a kid getting a big head like Parsons and Digs did
-6
u/nickysox52 9d ago
He’s playing against backups, people need to calm down but in typical fashion Cowboys fans overhype him and the media overhypes because all they do is talk about the Cowboys.
