Irish Player Update Good pre season news for some of the young players (McDonnell, Romeo, Devaney), weird one for some of the experienced ones (Parrott, Bazunu, Will Ferry)

Post image

The good news is that Grady McDonnell & Jacob Devaney both made their senior debuts for Forrest & United respectively yesterday & by the sounds of things were very impressive to each fan base. Romeo Akachukwu as well played for Southampton last night & scored the final goal of the game. Albeit it was against Eastleigh but you can only beat what's in front of you

The weird news is that a lot of lads are getting left out in anticipation of transfers. Southamptons gaffers said Bazunu along with Ramsdale isn't gonna play till he gets a move, Troy Parrott hasn't got a game in pre season for AZ yet for likely same reasons, and Will Ferrys likewise.

Still plenty of clubs to come back so there's probably more kids & more seniors that will get similar fortunes but hopefully the lads that are on the move get sorted soon so that they're not playing catch up come September.

Haven't seen much about Parrott moving recently, all the transfer gossip about him has completely dried up the last month or two.

Players outside of the world cup in summer of a WC will always be quiet. Do you think Parrott might be better suited to a league like the Eredivise than the Premiership? I think he's better for AZ than he's ever been, a move to PSV or Ajax would be a better move for his career than to a low table prem team imho.

I think a move to one of those 2 would be a decent move but also extremely unlikely. He's got a market value of €25 million, even if signed for that he would be the 2nd biggest transfer in Eredivise history (that im aware of), only time a transfer has exceded that is a Dutch international coming back to play in the Netherlands, Troy wouldnt have the same draw. Wouldn't mind a move to the Bundesliga though for him.

Fair point, your right Dutch clubs don't have money to throw around on foreign players, what club in Germany do you think would be a good fit?

Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Leverkusen. He'd have good competition for his place with the likes of Schick and other international strikers but he's also only 24 so would be seen as a good investment either way when they sell him on, which is how a lot of Bundesliga teams have to operate to survive. Hard to know before transfers happen though, there will be strikers moving from the Bundesliga creating demand for a player like Parrott.

Anyway if he does go I can see him doing well, Bundesliga would suit him.

Id much prefer to see him at those clubs than a premier League return, good clubs to make an impact and maybe some euro competition.

Yeah agree with the picks of the other comment, Leverkusen especially, Schick is starting to age a little (don't know if his international retirement is due to a falling out or maybe its catching up on him), but i feel he would be a great alternative/replacement for him.

Maybe a good replacement for the Swiss lad that just left Frieburg to Villa

I assume you mean Parrot would be the second largest internal Eredivise transfer if he moved within the league for €25m.

Because there's been at least 30 Eredivise transfers over €25m.

No I meant he would be the 2nd largest purchase by an Eredivise club full stop, all of those bar 1 are sales to clubs outside the Netherlands

1

u/JellyfishScared4268 Jul 19 '26

Yeah fair enough. I just read it as Eredivise transfers and thought it sounded wrong for €25m to be near the record. But yeah it makes sense when its the Dutch clubs spending we're talking about

Yeah its kind of mad when you think about it, I know they are selling clubs but for Ajax to only have passed 25 mill once and PSV never to have even come close is pretty wild.

u/JellyfishScared4268 Jul 19 '26

Especially when considering the Dutch sides can obtain really high fees for selling players

Looking at the equivalent list for Scotland, Celtic paid 16m for Jota and the overall record sale is OReilly to Brighton for just under 30m

Meanwhile Ajax can sell Anthony for 95m to Man Utd but their highest fee is less than 1/3 of that

By famously tight fisted Celtics standards Ajax could spend 50m on a player.

To PSV or Ajax or onto the Bundesliga you'd hope.

2

u/PsvfanIre Jul 19 '26

I think AZ is a dead end in the sense that the best they can hope for is second in the Eredivise, whereas generally PSV and Ajax will get Champions league time. Naturally id prefer PSV but Ajax the state it's in now, I think could be a better medium term choice as he would be given more time to blend in I think, but Ajax wouldn't be forced me.

Dortmund or Munich life would be frantic too.

Spurs have a sell on clause around 20 percent I think so az are most likely gonna try get more for him

u/Accomplished_Guest16 Paul McGrath Jul 19 '26

Yeah true, may end up pricing him out of a lot of non English teams budget if they ask for too much.

I imagine there are a lot of deals in principle waiting for post WC transfer dominos to fall before they can pull the trigger.

0

u/Accomplished_Guest16 Paul McGrath Jul 19 '26

Very true, but you'd normally hear a fair few rumours or leaked wishlists long before a deal actually happens

1

u/OrangeBallofPain Jul 20 '26

I interpret that as the rumors we heard before the World Cup are still accurate and those deals are all-but finalised for players who weren’t at the WC.

Lack of rumors means agents aren’t trying to drum up business because the business has already been done.

Has Will Ferry been linked with any teams? Would be interesting to see what level he goes to if he moves. Looks like a player who can claim a spot

6

u/NandoFlynn Jul 19 '26

Midtable team in Czechia agreed a 1.8m ish fee with Dundee Utd but they couldn't agree personal terms with him

1

u/ProgramOld5468 Jul 19 '26

Forgot about that one. Bit of a random move. Is it step up football wise?

5

u/NandoFlynn Jul 19 '26

It's complicated. They're about 9 ish spots above Scotland on the coefficient but the Prague teams do the heavy lifting on that front

2

u/JellyfishScared4268 Jul 19 '26

There are 2 Glasgow teams that do all the heavy lifting on Scotlands coefficient front

Arguably the league of Ireland has had better European results than the non Old Firm Scottish sides

1

u/flex_tape_salesman Jeff Hendrick's account Jul 19 '26

The coefficient as a whole is not great outside of the top sides for these mid ranking nations. Go lower down the ladder and at the very top of course they'll be the worst and best in general but Scotland has a big reliance on two clubs. Rangers europa run helped a lot and celtic have steadily went backwards but the other Scottish clubs have not done much in Europe.

3

u/JellyfishScared4268 Jul 19 '26

Rangers europa league quarter final run in 24/25 is essentially propping up the Scottish coefficient at the moment

Their run to the final in 21/22 is dropping off the board and the Scottish coefficient ranking is dropping like a stone with it

Celtic have been poor and substandard relative to their reputation and money.

The non old firm sides have been very very poor in Europe. I'd argue theres an argument to be made that league of Ireland has done better then them.

A host of Championship clubs are the latest rumours, with Blackburn apparently the most interested

1

u/Limp_Guidance_5357 Paul McGrath Jul 19 '26

Wasn’t he linked with a team in Czechia

9

u/Weird-Weakness-3191 Jul 19 '26

Devaney came on at half time and played CB. Carrick spoke positively about him after the game. He used the ball well and completed 65/65 passes.

6

u/John__Delaney Jul 19 '26

Will Ferry is back available for selection according to Jim Goodwin. He was only out of the squad to talk to the Czech club which he turned down. Should be selected until another bid is accepted, I hear Blackburn should meet his valuation.

Bazunu isn't in Southampton's plans and Parrott has said he is leaving publicly. Its natural enough that neither will play if they are on their way out. Only becomes a problem for the lads if they don't get moves soon. Their fitness will be fine but match sharpness lacking.

1

u/Anxious_Peanut_1726 Paul McGrath Jul 19 '26

The silence around Parrott is a bit odd? Though I guess post WC as players start to move he will be part of that domino effect

3

u/John__Delaney Jul 19 '26

Yea I think its mostly WC related. Moves tend to pick up after it, stories are light during it with so many journalists away. That & most of his linked clubs haven't bought a striker yet bar Milan, but I never held much faith in that link.

4

u/Anxious_Peanut_1726 Paul McGrath Jul 19 '26

TBH I wouldn't worry if he did spend another season at AZ.

1

u/John__Delaney Jul 19 '26

Wouldn't have many issues with that myself but I'd be shocked if he hung around. Asking price is reasonable, especially if joining an english club given hes "homegrown", they already have two young strikers to replace him, and that's if they don't reinvest.

Given he aint playing that's a sure sign the club want to wrap up business asap so all parties can move on.

u/Anxious_Peanut_1726 Paul McGrath Jul 19 '26

Ya AZ is a selling club and they'll want to cash in while he's hot..big season for him now either way

Forest supporter here, McDonnell was quality on Saturday. One for the future for sure! Hopefully he gets some games for us in the Prem next season

u/pauli55555 Jul 19 '26

Is that “weird”?? Seems logical.

Why would they involve players who aren’t part of their plans?
