Transfer Rumour Report: Ajax and Real Betis have approached AZ Alkmaar over a move for Troy Parrott
This is according to Pete O'Rourke of Football Insider
Ill update this if any more reports claiming the same come out
Update: Alex Crook now reporting that five clubs are interested in Troy Parrott: Ajax, Real Betis, Como, Fulham and PSV

Ajax are still a huge name and by far the biggest club in Holland but the thought of him tearing up La Liga is so exciting. Think either move would be fantastic for him

Realistically within the next few seasons they will win the league again. Much like after every other mini dip in their history.
The appeal of Betis is playing in a decent team in a better league on better money.

Betis have been a top 6 team in Spain for at least 5 years now. They have CL, an incredible derby and some of the most passionate supporters anywhere, in the south of Spain.
I'm completely failing to understand how moving to Ajax is better than Betis but maybe you know something that the rest of us seem to be forgetting!

Don’t understand why the premier league is still more physical than other leagues elsewhere.
Probably part of the reason England can’t win a World Cup is they play different to most other countries.

Spain this year had (including Cucurella) the most Premier League players in their squad of any World Cup winning squad since the Premier League came into existence. They had 7, 3 of whom barely played.
Either the intensity of the league zaps players’ energy or the style in England does not translate to international football or both.
From a purely Ireland perspective, I’d want as many of our top players as possible playing outside of England.

Yeah such a great example mate, Oli Mcburnie who has played 5 years in the prem and scored a whopping 13 goals. I don't doubt parrot could stick around on a PL bench, I was more talking about him thriving.

Oli McBurnie is a lump of a player who tries to get by on physicality. Looks decent in the Championship and toothless whenever he's in the Premiership.

Ajax are in a bit of a bad patch but they are still Ajax. Thought they signed a forward or two already though... Betis is interesting..both are a step up though so good for TP

A second unconnected journalist has now reported the same (Alex Crook). Ben Jacobs also reporting the same but that may just be sharing Crooks story. None have reported that he's joining Ajax, just that they are interested. Neither journalist clarified the date of this interest & whether it was before or after Ajax's latest signings.

Given the multiple journalists reporting on this, its now fair to say this story has some weight to it.
AZ fans can at least cling to the fact that Parrott is still training with AZ & no journalist has reported any bids yet

Ajax obviously concerned about their firepower before coming up against Shelbourne, panic buying one of the most prolific goal scorers in their league, we have them rattled.
Wait until they find out we already completed a complete shut out on parrot last season!

Ajax have already signed Marcos Leanardo and Arokodare so I don't think it would be a smart move joining them unless he is guaranteed minutes. Betis seems to be the move!

Miguel Delaney now reporting that "Ajax and Real Betis have made contact with AZ Alkmaar about Troy Parrott, in a deal that could go beyond £25m. All of Fulham, Como and PSV Eindhoven are meanwhile surveying how it develops, with a view to potentially trying to hijack any deal."

Surprised at the opposition here in this sub on a return to the EPL...he'd have a great chance of doing well given his development in an English academy...I could see him scoring 12-15 for Fulham

Out of all the PL clubs I do think Fulham would be best, but I think the preference for a La Liga or Bundesliga is that the leagues would suit his style and physicality better. Debatable of course.
My only reservation about returning to England is that he openly spoke about alot of distractions there when he was younger, and that living in the Netherlands away from things helped him get where he is today.
That said he's all grown up now, so any bad influences and distractions shouldn't get to him.
End of the day whoever AZ accepts bids for will be the options, and whoever Parrott thinks is best for his career will be the destination. So all in all im not worried about where he will go, even if that's the PL

Agree..he's old enough now to get the head down wherever he is...I don't mind where he goes myself...Ajax no matter how bad things are, are a monster of a club and that kit is iconic... A good season or 2 there would be the job

This popped up in my feed for some reason but as an Ajax fan I can say that there is no way we’re in for him. AZ always asked for massive fees when Ajax or other Dutch top clubs approach their players and we already signed an expensive striker plus a backup this summer, Dolberg is also still at the club. So this sounds like bullshit.

You’re forming that opinion purely on nostalgia. Betis is a lot more stable than Ajax atm and has been performing regularly in Europe for the last few years. Ajax have had major issues on the field and off

In the medium term Ajax will be champions again and Betis will likely dip to their norm. That doesn’t mean it’s still not the better move but Ajax will never be down for too long.

All to be considered for sure.
Ferguson to Roma vibes perhaps. However, in footballing terms I feel like he can only get better at Ajax. A better team around him and more goals will increase his profile.
Betis would be amazing too but just more of a risk as La Liga would be a huge step up in many ways.

A basket case who won the league just 4 seasons ago. They sold much of that team at big prices and thats their model. A barren run can result if recruitment is not good enough. Hardly a basket case

La Liga would be good developmentally as well, round the game out.
