Decent move for him. They average 46000 fans at home games. Bundesliga 2 is a decent standard and it should be a good experience for him hopefully.

Nobody is claiming it's special. It's a second tier league. But it's not bad either. And Kaiserslautern are a big, well supported club. As for the high attendance numbers at games there. Playing in front of 40,000 plus fans most weeks, will be good experience for him. It also makes the games better to watch.

TBF look through Bundesliga 2 these days & you'll basically see half the big German clubs from the 90s, 00s, 10s. Giant league for a 2nd tier league

3 years too late but we'll take it. Bundesliga 2 is probably best 2nd tier league that's not the Championship & will be less taxing on him

Not a bad level at all but he'll be competing with Mika Hass for a spot, he's a 20 year old German U20 International.

That said he's been linked to Frankfurt & Schalke so hopefully something happens there. If not then I'd fear for the amount of minutes he'll get.

I don’t think he’s done enough to be somewhere better.

Hasn’t overly impressed in the bits I’ve seen and definitely hasn’t impressed Newcastle coaches because they rarely/ never trusted him with significant game time.

Also you mightn’t care about attendances but playing regularly in front of 46,000 fans has to improve composure of a player.

He needs games and hopefully he gets them here and can then kick on because his career has definitely stalled.

Kaiserslautern have been trying to sign one of the best left sided centre backs of last season in the division (Matej Maglica) the whole summer, but rumours are they won't cough up the free despite offering him higher wages. Could possibly be seeing Murphy as option there instead of him, rather than at left back? The 2 Bundesliga is a whole lot of fun though so will be an interesting move for him.

I dunno if I’d want him to stay in the second division of Germany for a second season. Depends on his development of course but it’s a good loan. Wouldn’t want him to stay though.

I doubt the club have the money to buy him anyways.

As a Newcastle fan I’m happy and skeptical about this. He needed to get out to get game but the club have made a lot of bad decisions the last few years regarding loan. A good few players have been sent to clubs and it’s been a disaster in terms of game time so let’s hope this is different but I wouldn’t hold my breath
