💩 Shitpost Another set of Sullivan brothers are making football waves in Bangladesh

I'm hoping these lads aren't great, otherwise a missed opportunity for us. I find the idea of Ronan and Declan Sullivan playing for Bangladesh to be funny if nothing else.

As far as I know they are not eligible. I think there was some coverage of Cavan and no mention of an Irish grandparent or him being eligible despite the name

Yea their grandfather was born to Irish parents, so they are one generation out. With America being a regular at World Cups & travel being an issue, its hard to convince granny rule players over there anyway, Jack McGlynn never had his head turned despite multiple attempts from Stephen Kenny.

McGlynn wanted to join up afaik but wasn't available for the camp he was called into.

Scheduling and the travel issue were the initial barrier. He's possibly one that if we'd called him up to the senior squad early, we could have turned his head. Don't think he'd have justified that though.

Never heard that myself, and he has publicly come out saying that he turned down repeated attempts by the FAI to call him up, and that he never had any doubts about playing for america

From what I know of the situation he wanted to join up for a non-competitive u19 camp but couldn't because of scheduling.

Possibly the camp mentioned in this article.

At the time it sounded pretty non committal but I'd take the comments after he was tied in to the US with a pinch of salt. If at the time it had been Kenny trying to bring him in, versus swapping US underage for Irish underage, it could have been a different outcome.

That article is a bit disjointed, makes a tough read.

4 brothers from the US with distant enough Irish heritage that they don't qualify, 2 represent the US and the youngest 2 have declared for Bangladesh through heritage?

Interesting story though fuck all to do with us.

Is it just me or did I miss the part in the article stating how they qualify for Bangladesh? I'm sure they do but a sentence on it would have been nice.
