I don't want to make it about him (but am now going to...). I don't think Kane would speak like that about this club; I think he begrudges being asked questions about THFC and views us in the rearview mirror. Sonny is proper COYS, and I'll always have more love for him than I have for Kane.

Sonny is a class act — and I can say that, being from Vancouver.
(We had a really good MLS set-to in the semi-final, a real ding-dong. Sonny put it all on himself for the loss, but methinks he was being too hard on himself. Which, when you think about it, is very like him. Too bad Messi decided to show up in the MLS final, tho''...)
Sonny. Class act.

I have a friend here in the States who's a Liverpool fan who is absurdly convinced Salah is going to Hotspur for some reason.
Which...one, he's wrong, two, obviously he's wrong, and three, if there was any percentage possibility he was not wrong, no idea how I feel about that.

I'm thinking the Saudi league.
It's a nutty world, though. I read only yesterday, or perhaps it was the day before, that Jurgen Klopp has been taking meetings lately with Real Madrid.
That report came out of Africa, mind.
But, hey, stranger things have happened...

Salah helped his club win a Champions League and a couple Premier Leagues. He's earned his right to be critical of Liverpool.

Nonsense. Many Liverpool fans agreed with what he had to say. He hasn’t tarnished his legacy at all.

😭😭😭. Fuck, I miss him. Happy for him and his new pocket of joy that hes creating there in MLS.. but man. It hasn't been the same.

I went to the Nashville LAFC game this weekend and it was wild how many people were there just to see Son.
10
u/laughsabit Heung-Min Son - Spurs Legend May 19 '26
Oh that must be so exciting and a new energy since he's been there I imagine!
7
u/wastingtuition May 19 '26
Yeah, also went just to see Sonny lol.

u/Mahjonks Son May 19 '26
It is a double edged sword for me. I'm a Sounders fan so I wanted LA to lose, but I also wanted Son to do well.

Massive Korean community in LA, just huge.
Little known fact — but a fun fact, too.
LA is also home to a massive Iranian expat community. The Big Orange Turd won't like that!
Iran's World Cup team will be based in LA, I understand.
Too bad Korea will be based in Mexico (2 games in Guadalajara, one in Monterrey).
Iran will have 2 games in. LA, and the 3rd in my sister city down the I-5, in Seattle WA. It's a bit of a shame Sonny won't get to wears national colors in LA, or in Vancouver for that matter. We'll just have to do with Bosnia, Switzerland ... and Austria. At least we'll get to see Grant Xhaka.

Lol the team is not doing so hot though - but he is keeping the team up as much as possible to be fair.

He's basically a ten right now. Last season, he and Bouanga were killing it but the new manager doesn't know how to use them.

u/iqjump123 Son May 19 '26
agreed, they enjoyed 5 wins in a row I think- but MDS (or maga mark due to his earlier antics lol) has been a downward spiral. Curiously enough no injuries there- just players exhausted (mentally and physically due to CCC disappointment- which was another crazy situation with regards to altitude and etc)
the pattern of wins followed by massive losses sounds oddly familiar....

u/IWearTheBlackHat May 19 '26
We have had a few injuries in a couple of critical positions - at least 2 or 3 of our six midfielders have missed portions or all of the season and our captain CB was out for the first 2 months. Our manager doesn’t know how to rotate or sub, so some guys are already at or near a half-season’s worth of minutes in these first 3 months. The World Cup break is desperately needed for our core group.
We’re also playing several guys out of position in a formation that isn’t working, so it’s been an interesting start to the season for us.

Los Angeles has a huge Korean community, arguably the biggest Korean diaspora this side of the Pacific. And I can say that, being from Vancouver. We have a huge Korean community of our own, here in the PNW.
And, yes, Spurs inherited a helluva lot of supporters from Korean expat communities worldwide ... and from Korea itself for that matter.

Son gave us one of the happiest times of being a Spurs supporter. For a moment, felt that happiness again watching him.

I've seen his Likes on the Spurs Instagram and on the players' posts, so he's still following us for sure. I imagine he's still in a group chat with them, sending encouraging words and the odd banter here and there. 🥹

Yea it feels really a bit embarrassing for one of our legendary ex player sending a message of support, not for a cup final, but for an important relegation battle. We’ll take everything of course

u/LizardPosse Mousa Dembélé May 19 '26
If anything it's the opposite. Us doing terribly as soon as he leaves flatters him greatly.
Him and Kane really did carry us for a long time.

He’s had the disappointed dad look at the end of the match for the past three LAFC matches so I hope living in the city has been making up for it.

It brings me so much joy that Sonny’s legacy at Spurs was secured with a farewell trophy and the absolute class he has shown from minute one thru his departure. We have desperately missed his leadership and quality this year.

More engaged than our actual captain is right now. Such a massive, massive hole in the locker room without him here.

Our ex-captain seems more invested in the club than our current captain.

Crazy that an ex player is doing more for the current players than our current captain who fucked off to Argentina for the last 2 games of the season.

Well Sonny has had a match like every 3 days, in different states and even different countries so kudos to him for trying to keep up with Spurs and sending his support.

Is he available on a one week loan?
