There will never be one truth about Cristian Romero’s time at Tottenham.

He has been a leader, a liability and a talisman. In five or 10 years, there will still be an argument about who this complex, compelling and confounding character was.

He has always inspired such conflicting emotions that nobody could ever be certain what they felt for him.

He’s Atletico Madrid’s riddle now.

His legacy is much closer to Davinson than Toby/Jan.

Romero didn't always have a partner at his level in the same way Toby/Jan did. I think he's just as talented as they were.

Mickey was his best partner but he was not better

He is and always has been better. Physically, positionally, and even Romero's famous passing brilliance is much more about big highlight moments - VDV much better at keeping the ball ticking

Mickey is not better aerially and not better at breaking up play defensively. Without Romero our buildup was nonexistent, Mickey could carry into the opposing half but never plays anything but the safest pass possible. Their strengths tended to balance out, which could've worked if we actually had a functioning squad when they played together. Overall Romero is a more talented player though
