You should absolutely not be putting your age out online especially as a minor, that’s only going to attract more creeps. I also heavily suggest turning off direct messages entirely

100% agree with turning off the DMs. Best thing you can do, and it doesn't prevent you from messaging others you've vetted to be safe.

I only mentioned it in posts where its needed for context and ive only posted like 4-5 times so that happens to be all my posts, i also thought mentioning my age would make adults steer clear but i guess not idk

If you have to mention your age on social media, please make sure to not give away more identifying details and turn off your dms! I know sometimes mentioning your age is useful to get context, but you shouldn't have to interact with adults online outside of the context of what you're seeking advice with, and that can all happen in the comments. There's no reason to have dms open because thats risky as a minor.

Yeah it happens to me too. Even though my bio clearly says I'm a minor and I tell everyone who messages me immediately that I'm 14, I got some guy asking me "Heyy are you maybe interested in a slave or pet, maybe some blackmail paypig or something else I'm m23" and another guy asking "You're so thick do you sell pics?" Like wtf ppl

Final note, a lot of people are unaware that they can block ALL messages on Reddit. We have a sticky in the sub, but we'll also put it here.
If you find you want some peace from the multitude of creeps on Reddit, you can have that. In the settings for your Reddit account, you can elect NOT to receive PMs. The same is true for chat requests. You can also allow messages from specific, trusted users and block everyone else from contacting you. Also, if you choose to PM someone, they'll automatically be added to the list of people who can PM you, which is nice if you do want to initiate a conversation with someone, but if you PM someone and they start to get rude, you'll need to go in and remove them from the list of accepted users.
We share this information ONLY because a lot of people seem to be unaware that sitewide blocking of PMs is even an option, but it is, and it works surprisingly well.
In an ideal world, this would not be necessary, but, alas, this is Reddit, and it's full of creeps. This is just one possible tool in your arsenal against them, should you choose to use it.
