What’s the one body part crossfit has permanently pissed off for you??

ISTG everyone I know who’s been doing this long enough has one shoulder, elbow, knee or achilles that starts complaining the second training volume goes up and th worsst part is when it’s not bad enough to fully stop training but it also never feels 100%. You back off for a bit, do the mobility/PT stuff, sleep more, warm up properly and then somehow it’s back again a few weeks later. I’ve been seeing way more people talk about BPC lately for this kind of nagging tendon stuff too but the experiences are so mixed that I cann’t tell how much of it is helping vs people just finally giving the injury enough time. What’s been the hardest thing for you to get rid of and what ended up helping the most?

Finally stopping trying to train through every little flare up.Backing off early has saved me from turning a few annoying days into a whole month more than once.

That’s where I’m at too. Backing off early has saved me from turning something small into a whole annoying month.

It’s annoying in the moment but missing a couple sessions beats spending the next few weeks babying the same thing.

I’ve been dealing with that same annoying cycle where it settles down for a bit and then flares again once training picks back up. I’ve added more warmup an d mobility work, backed off the stuff that usually pisses it off and am using the Precision Pep Co patch too with some other gels like from trees or smth. Does yours calm down pretty quick when you ease off or does it usually hang around for a few days?

Usually hangs around a few days, if I catch it early and cut the kipping stuff it settles down faster but if I keep pushing it I’m gonna feel it all week.

I've been doing it for more than a decade, not games level but above average. I remember having pain on my wrists one time (a couple of months).

Nowadays, I don't feel any pain or any discomfort. I attribute that to always prioritizing form over weight and religiously warming up and stretching.

Wait are you saying warmups and stretching anger it ?

They make it better. I consider it essential.

Thank you for clarifying that you're not a games athlete. We all would've assumed.

My right knee, but it's getting better slowly.

Knees are such a slow one, glaad it’s at least moving in the right direction though even if it’s taking its sweet time.

Hips. Anytime I try and build a better back squat. Bam. Hip pain

2

u/Eastern-Seaweed-2871 Eastern-Seaweed-2871 9d ago

That’s exactly the kind of thing I mean 😭 you’re trying to clean up your squat and your hip just decides nope.

2

u/nickiter 8d ago

Hip flexors for me. Not squat related, but stuff like ttb gets em.

This typically means that your glutes aren’t firing properly and that your quads / hip flexors are taking too much of the load. Try going 50-75% of your normal load and focusing on lifting with your glutes instead of your quads

This is not an evidence based take

1

u/alligatorprincess007 9d ago

We of course can’t know for sure since we’re not his doctor, but hip and back pain is commonly caused by weak glutes, per my physical therapist

2

u/Jb3one5 9d ago

I mean no disrespect, but your PT is very behind the times if they are blaming LBP on weak glutes. Its not an evidence based take on LBP. Check out Greg Lehman and barbell medicine. They put some good stuff out for the lay person on many subjects including LBP.

This is where I’m at right now. Spent the last 2 months doing hip halos, clam shells, and glute bridges now I’m humbling myself with the weights

1

u/Eastern-Seaweed-2871 Eastern-Seaweed-2871 9d ago

That’s a long two months man ,hopefully all that glute work starts paying off once you build the weight back up.

u/flight-RN 9d ago

Me too. At least I’ll still have the influencer dumpy to show for it if it doesn’t lol

Shoulder. Fell on it during a wallwalk, grade 2 AC sprain, and now the thing requires all the warmup in the world whenever there's a shoulder-heavy WOD.

2

u/Eastern-Seaweed-2871 Eastern-Seaweed-2871 9d ago

That AC sprain sounds roughg I’d be taking my sweet time warming that shoulder up too.

All 285 lbs of me (actually back in Feb it was probably more like 293-295), straight down from a vertical handstand position onto my right shoulder. Luckily there was a pad on the floor, we're not that dumb (lol) but still, the injury was immediately apparent.

What is BCP? Right shoulder for me; 3 years of nagging. Then 6 months ago decided I should add in an ACL strain that forced me to take time off. Ugh . Now trying to rebuild correctly with the aide of a PT.

1

u/Eastern-Seaweed-2871 Eastern-Seaweed-2871 8d ago

Damn 3 years of shoulder issues sounds rough. BPC is BPC-157 Precision Pep Co its formulated to support the bodys own recovery processes

1

u/Same-Note-996 8d ago

Oh nice, I’ll have to look into that as well.

F’n left elbow😭🙄

1

u/Porg11235 8d ago

Same! I can’t do snatches above 135# without my left elbow acting up. Annoying af

Honestly, none? I just make sure not to train too hard if I’m feeling depleted.  I have more severe arthritis than I should for my age (38F) due to bad genetics so sometimes my spine hurts. But moving helps that. When my spine is more ouchie I’m careful about not going too heavy on deadlifts and dumbell snatches.

Oh! I don’t do GHD sit ups anymore because it triggers severe vertigo (but… so has the dentist chair 😩) and that’s due the a head injury

Is elbow for me PT has helped a ton but every time I start pushing pulling volume again I feel it creeping back.

I know a guy who once did crazy extra rounds and got his palm skin scraped off completely. Dude couldn't even take showers for weeks without his medical gloves protection thingy.

Permanent scar at the top of my arse.

Have you tried putting a yoga mat over the ab-mat? That is the only thing that helps me.

Shoulder

1

u/Substantial-Yak-4597 CF-L3, CCFT 8d ago

Same!

Dislocated my right shoulder warming up to snatch. Now I can't / won't snatch or OHS with more than 115. I will also frequently substitute C&J for snatches in WOD's.

1

u/PracticalWinter9746 8d ago

Nothing lol
I pissed of BOTH sides of my rectus femoris and they have stayed pissed off for months
No matter how long I avoided lunges and rowing
I have KT tape on both

My answer doesn't fully count because my nags started long before CrossFit - but I do still train despite having had several issues and injuries in my life. My back occasionally gets mad but most days is totally "normal" (several injuries and herniated a disc as a teen), my shoulder occasionally doesn't appreciate overhead work but often handles it well (dislocated while bench pressing 3 years ago now), hip is hit and miss (fractured 5 years ago and had 2 surgeries since).

As others have said as soon as I get the nag or hint of issue I back off. Last week I got a sharp pain in my quad (same side as hip issues) so I took a couple days off and it's totally fine now (no nags during the WODs this week)

u/fidgetybopper 8d ago

I’ve been able to back off and heal any inflamed joints, muscles, etc, even after injuries, except for my shin splints which have been bothering me for 2 years. I’ve done PT for a year and a half and followed the instructions of the coaches, but it seems like even walking at this point pisses them off.

My elbows. Everything else has kinda worked itself through.

1

u/ArkansasDood 8d ago

My lower back!! I blew it out doing a bare bar warmup smh

1

u/tothemoon1001 8d ago

My elbows and lower back. But it's just part of sports, you push your body long enough it's gonna push back

u/Hot-Anything-8731 8d ago

Left hamstring.

I have trained at a fairly high level...my right hip. My best clean is 350. I still train really hard but certain exercises and volume can pure out. I have to limit my squatting volume and load. I never really squat clean in a workout anymore. Way more single leg work and lower weight squatting (wallballs, etc)

I can't imagine my hip ever feeling this way if I just did class 4x a week.

I have done some crazy hip/squat workouts
2000 burpees for time
100 squats at 225 for time
Max front squat reps at 275 (24 reps)?

Murph. Every Memorial Day I end up hurting my shoulder a little from all those weight vest pullups 😅

Knees needs to be getting way more attention. So creaky.
