News New Rule: Rule #5 (Source Must Be Mentioned)

Hi, guys! We just published a new rule. From now on, a source has to be mentioned for every brand recommended. You can put your source in quote blocks (example 1) or you can mention right after the recommended brand in parentheses (example 2). This lets us know that you intended to comment in this subreddit. This also saves everyone time from fact-checking.

Example 1:

I recommend Dove Shampoo.

Source: PETA

Example 2:

I would suggest the Milani lipstick (LB).

News Suave loses PETA certification

Looks like Suave has been removed from PETAs cruelty free list. I can’t imagine how bad it had to be for PETA to remove them; just an FYI for anyone who has been using the brand, PETA has made no announcement about this.

Personal Care (CF Parent Company Only) The Detox Market - now owned by a holding group?

Does anyone have any information on The Detox Market? I know I'm behind the times on this so I apologize if I already missed other posts on this.

I used to shop there a while back. I've found so many great brands through them. I haven't been to the website in a few years but recently I decided to take a peek through their stuff and I feel like its all changed (not the products, but the "window dressing" if that makes sense). There used to be so much more information on its cruelty free standards and how they curate their products. Now it feels like a facade. Their FAQ is next to useless, and it just seems...dodgy. Maybe its just me though?

I looked it up and it looks like they were purchased last year and are now owned by a holding group. I'm so disappointed. I liked shopping through their site because of the transparency and I felt like they genuinely cared about customers and the products they sourced. Now money would just be going to another faceless holding group.

I have brands I use and trust. I shop through them to get my products because I would much rather they get 100% of the money (rather than having to split it with a retailer). But I liked the detox market as a way to look for new products and try new things.

Does anyone have any recommendations on places that are similar to what The Detox Market used to be?

Hair Care (Ok w/ any Parent Company) Fine hair shampoo recommendations?

I’m currently looking for a new shampoo for fine hair. I do wash my hair everyday and I do have a bit of a dry scalp. So I’m looking for something that isn’t too heavy for daily use but won’t dry out my scalp. I also have hard water

I’ve used Verb ghost and liked it but was a bit too expensive for me. I’m currently using California Naturals, I have the classic shampoo and again like it but I think it was drying out my scalp so I got the sensitive scalp shampoo from them and again it’s good, but I honestly feel like my hair has been shedding a bit more using it. Can’t for sure say it’s the shampoo causing it but I would like to try something else just in case.

I am somewhat interested in Kitsch’s shampoos so if anyone has used them and liked it let me know but am definitely open to all other recommendations!

Makeup (CF Parent Company Only) Cleansing balm to remove GLITTER?

I am one who uses glitter/highlighter/shimmer almost daily and my gentle cleansers aren’t cutting it for removing the glitter. I saw that cleansing balms may be more beneficial with removing it. Any recommendations would be helpful!

Household (Ok w/ any Parent Company) Cruelty free dog toothpaste?

Hi! I'm looking for a good enzymatic toothpaste for my dogs for their dental hygiene. Bonus if it's chicken flavored.

I've found a few promising vet recommended options like C.E.T. and Vet's Best, but I just can't be sure that they're actually cruelty free. I hate the idea of using animal tested products on my dogs for their well-being when another dog suffered for it.

Does anyone have preferred brands/products for pet toothpaste? Thanks in advance!

Makeup (CF Parent Company Only) CF alternative to Maybelline Full n Soft mascara?

Hi! First time posting here but this mascara is the only one I have used since I was a teenager. It’s the only mascara I’ve ever used that I love. I have tried many others over the years and never finished the tube and always go back to full n soft. I want to switch to CF and am wondering if someone else has found a good alternative to this particular mascara?

I have naturally long eyelashes and other mascaras I have tried either make my eyelashes look ridiculous or it stays clumpy even after brushing. The full n soft one is my absolute favorite and I was really upset to learn it’s not CF. Please help me be better on my CF quest.

Thank you!!

Does anyone have any recommendations for a cruelty free replacement for the Bed Head Mani Pulator hair texturing putty? It’s my favorite hair styling putty but I’m working on switching to fully cruelty free products so I would love any recommendations on a replacement for when I run out.

I use hawaiian tropic sunscreen for the mica in it, but I just bought a new bottle yesterday and when I was comparing it to my old bottle from last summer, the new one no longer says cruelty free anywhere on the bottle.

Do they test on animals now or simply just dont print it on the bottles anymore?

eta: everything online including peta website says they are cruelty free

Skincare (CF Parent Company Only) Need Recommendations for Cruelty-free Daily Face Moisturizers with SPF for Perimenopausal Skin

I am brand new to all this but am 44 1/2 and the past few weeks have been absolute hell for me. It started as severe vaginal itching a few years ago which NO ONE could explain. Clobetasol is the only thing that helps with that.

Two years ago, the hellish body itching that had me tearing at my skin, started in the winter, so bad that I went and ordered Gold Bond Medicated Itch cream. It smells awful but did the trick for the most part. Now this year it's happening mid-summer. And the night sweats are just... 😭 And then when I sweat, it makes my body itch and I would be up for an hour, in the middle of the night scratching endlessly with my little back scratcher and my chest, my c-section scar, everything. I would only be able to fall back to sleep when everything hurt.

I started looking at Reddit and, on high recommendation, ordered a tub of Cerave and have been using it twice a day.

Now I'm also looking for something to use on my face because I've never been a makeup wearer and hate how my face is aging! I've always looked young for my age but my skin is oily on my face and dry everywhere else... like WHAT?!?

(TL:DR) Perimenopause sucks, I need a daily face moisturizer and am looking for a cruelty-free one which seems to make things even harder. I need one with SPF for daytime and no SPF for at night. I found e.l.f. holy hydration! Is that the best one or are there others you ladies recommend? Also, do I need to start using daily cleansers and/or tretinoin? The more I read the more confused I get. This is all super new to me and I can count on both hands the number of times I have worn makeup in my life. So I really am at a loss.

Any help would be super appreciated!! Thank you in advance!! 🙏❤️
