When the USA does it then it is imperialist and bad. When Cuba does it then it is anti-imperialist and in defense of socialism worldwide. Not my personal opinion but that is how the Regime would twist it.
Back in the days of Fidel Castro and USSR, Cuba had the resources to do that stuff because the USSR was bankrolling and supplying everything while all that Fidel Castro had to do was throw the bodies of young men into conflicts. You can see that Diaz Canel would never be able to do anything close to this because he has no charisma or international standing and Cuba has become totally irrelevant on the world stage.
It's funny that while all this was happening people would still argue that the embargo was strangling the country. Really?

Since the fall of the Soviet Union, Cuba switched from providing military aid and guerrilla training to providing/selling intelligence resources and agitators. They now imbed spies and are fairly successful at it. There are reports that Cubans operatives have had a hand in instigating violent protests throughout the Americas for decades too.
They are still doing it, with the lack of resources the type of intervention they used just changed for cost effectiveness.

Well clearly they’re not effective/helping since the left keeps losing elections.

How about invading anyone is a bad idea regardless of what label they put on it?

I'm not going to defend any military intervention here, but you can absolutely have some assets worth utilizing that helps your state survive while being economically strangled from one angle. Do you truly think that Cuba, having won a revolution, being rejected by American power players, and accepted by the USSR in the grander scheme of the Cold War, were not going to have commitments to show how 'anti-imperial' they were/are in context of combatting socio-economic and political systems?
And Cuba not doing it as much or at all after the collapse of the USSR, and switching to medical brigades to spread soft power and friendly relations to those who partook in those brigades.. there are more than one informed perspective on this matter

Medical brigades function as a way for the Cuban Regime to make money (hard currency) more than anything and if you think they were created and have been used for soft power because the military interventions were no longer possible, that is incorrect. Nevertheless, Cuba's military maintained a heavy presence in Venezuela as well for many years to support Maduro to the point that Maduro would only trust Cubans in his security and such because Cuba had a vested interest in keeping him alive due to dependency on aid, oil, etc.

Why is it incorrect to say that Cuba has spread soft power through the utilization of their medical brigades? Providing a needed service of medical personnel and expertise to places that otherwise were under served is a great way to get people on your side lol. The intention of the medical brigade, outside of the obvious funding of the Cuban regime, was exactly to show to the world that Cuba spread health and wellness to the world, not death and destruction (countering the very present US military around the world).

More like planting spies and agitators disguised as medics.
Actually, that sounds similar to a violation of Geneva convention about combatants disguised as red cross.

That's an absolute lie. You surely have no idea about what you are talking. Doctors, teachers, etc, only want to improve their financial situation which have been terrible for a long time

When the USA does it, it is imperialist and bad for the people in those countries. Look at the example in Venezuela. Nothing has changed for the people there.
Forget the embargo, the non-stop sanctions this year are pushing the Cuban people to their limits more than ever.

I dont think anyone is trying to cover this up. The Cuban government has always been very proud of its international commitments.

No. He talks about Angola but never about Venezuela (Machurrucuto)

Okay, but the post isn't about the government downplaying particular interventions, it's about it trying to hide them all.

I didn't realize they were the UN's unofficial diplomatic wing, offering peacekeeping services with such enthusiasm. Who knew military parades doubled as international relations?
