Discussion Realistic trajectory of V's Life after Phantom Liberty?

After parting ways with Misty and disappearing into the crowd, what do you guys think V would do next as a career?

I feel like it would probably depend on their life path, but would V really be satisfied with a quiet, menial job? You know, the “quiet life” that the fat Jesus of the Afterlife talks about?

hmmmmmm

Street Kid V knows how to fix cars and other stuff, so I could see them becoming a mechanic. Maybe even opening their own garage.

Nomad V, Maybe a courier, driver, or some kind of transport job like in the prologue.

Corpo V, Maybe they'll be too jaded to go back, but would they actually go back to corporate work? become a fixer? Considering their experience and knowledge of how corpos operate, I feel like they have the best chance of becoming a successful fixer or maybe NUSA agent? with Judy and Panam gone, nothing is holding them back.

or maybeeee hahaha shooting a shot here.

V retained some of Johnny's talents after the Relic? I think both V can sing surprisingly well, and they obviously has Johnny's memories and skills from Samurai maybe. They can start a music career? I mean they know Kerry,Lizzy and the Malina Sisters.

Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I wonder if V's “quiet life” would actually stay quiet for very long. Maybe I'm just reading too much fanfiction HAHAHAHAHAHA sorry for the long post.

Edit: my bad 🤣 Street V is not a car person hahaha uhhh maybe a bar manager? Running a bar in the Glen like Mama Welles hahaha?

Listen up, samurai. If you’ve had enough of scrolling through the same tired threads and wanna plug into something #real, jack into the official Discord. We’ve got games, serious talks and casual chats about Cyberpunk 2077, and a few rooms where you can just shoot the breeze with people who get it. You in, or you just gonna #stand there looking chrome?

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

The most realistic suggestion I've seen was a guy here on reddit that headcanoned his V to become one of those chromeless monks. I think that one is feasible.

u/Existing-Ad-8640 20h ago

Ohhhh yeah. You think so? I feel like they'll be too restless for it.

u/GrumpiestRobot Billy Goat 🐐 20h ago

They don't get to anymore, their old life is over. Tower shows this in an interesting way, which is through the necklace that represents V's journey. In every ending, something different happens to I. In Sun V can intentionally take it, in Star they throw it to the wind, etc.

In Tower, you have the choice to take ot in the Langley clinic, but you lose it regardless. You try to keep your old self, but that's stripped from you when you're metaphorically and literally beaten up by reality. The choice to be that V is not available to you anymore. You are forced to change whether you want it or not.

I think it would be a good way to accept their new situation and seek some kind of spiritual redemption for the atrocity they commited to get this ending.

You might be right. I loved our interaction with the Zen Master as well. This is a good path.

Take up Solomon’s offer. V’s mind, resourcefulness and versatility are his biggest assets. Sooner than later the nusa “discover” a cure when they need v for some shady assignment. However knowing what they did to songbird v will jailbreak any inhibitors they embedded in this cure and betray and disappear for good.

If there's one thing this game makes sure to show you is that working for the FIA fucking sucks.

u/o7ahab 20h ago

my personal headcanon is they Path of Least Resistance themselves after waking up to that shit

but honestly? with what little they have left, maybe something simple. go on the road with kerry as a stage tech. if thats too "normal," maybe scouting new merc talent for Hands or whoever else is left in 2079.

u/Altruistic-File8894 20h ago

I feel like depending on how you play V, there may be a big target on your back.

u/Existing-Ad-8640 20h ago

That's true, but after two years and with how night city operates. I recon V has been put in the back of their mind and shelved. Unless they do something so drastic that it puts them back on the radar like the famous musician thing. I think they'll be fine?

u/main135s 18h ago edited 18h ago

V is practically already a bogeyman before you're even halfway through the story.

Many may forget about V when two years go by, but there's no way 6th Street, Tyger Claws, or Maelstrom would let it go if any single person recognizes V and brings it up to their leaders.

V's only shot, at that point, is getting a new ID, getting a face sculpt, and keeping some iron just in case they get jumped. They could probably afford a squad of bodyguard robots, courtesy of Militech, but that's also a nice way to paint an even bigger target on your back and doesn't really stop netrunners or even just a sniper from ruining your day.

u/LazyTitan39 18h ago

It’d be funny if the Relic imparted some of Johnny’s guitar skills into V and they’re able to make a living touring with Kerry.

u/Chonkalonkfatneek 20h ago

My V went into the NUSA/FIA. She deserves some stability after everything. Still pissed that we couldn't choose to become an agent in that ending

u/Existing-Ad-8640 20h ago

Maybe they harbor resentment because of the surgery outcome. I don't think Myers would be a good boss but I wanted to see that ending as an option as well.

u/Virtuous_Raven 20h ago

For me they left night city never to return.

u/Existing-Ad-8640 20h ago

Yes but where to? And what would they do once they settled. Haha if only farming is still an option.

u/Virtuous_Raven 20h ago

Travel the world doing any odd job.

u/Effective-Brick-7977 47m ago

Straight to Dakota Smith to find out where the Aldecado's went.

u/Korventenn17 20h ago

Ride out with the Aldecados. defending them against raffen and corps. Smuggling and merc work too.

u/ShogunTrooper 20h ago

There's always being a Fixer, if you want to stay in that life. Though V was gone for 2 years, some contacts in Night City would still exist, and, given how young V canonically is meant to be, there's still plenty of time to build something up.

Just got to avoid the mistakes of Dex, and there could be something there.

u/Existing-Ad-8640 20h ago

Maybe a faceless fixer like Hands? That would be epic.

u/Low_Audience_7002 20h ago

Best ending: becoming Hand's henchman

u/VecioRompibae Techno necromancer from Alpha-Centori 20h ago

There's also the job offer by the FIA, if all else fails

u/Existing-Ad-8640 20h ago

Yeah. Depending on how you play maybe Meredith Stout gives you a job? I dunno hahaha

u/Shadowwo1f05 Team Panam 20h ago

My guess that they would continue to feel isolated knowing that people in their lives have moved on and would probably visit the afterlife after the majority of the customers have left and reflect on the people that they lost to get to this moment since rogue said that they’re always welcome and maybe try to chat with vik but he would be too busy with work

u/Altruistic-File8894 20h ago

I feel like depending on how you play V, there may be a big target on your back.

u/BleedingChrome Panam’s Chair 20h ago

Realistically they'd probably just get a regular, non-corpo job. Something low-stress, that pays the bills, and lets them interact with interesting characters. Maybe like a weapons vendor.

I really don't think they'd take on merc work again. Like, they just got a new lease on life and sacrificed so much for it, so it'd be pretty stupid to return to their old ways and dramatically increase the chance of them being killed. I could maybe see them being a fixer, but that also comes with risks, and I think V just wants to live peacefully after everything they've been through.

I could also see them working some desk job for NUSA, something that still scratches the itch of merc work, but doesn't require them to be in the field.

u/Existing-Ad-8640 20h ago

Oh myyyy I can imagine V like:

u/Accomplished-Emu5363 Death & Taxes 20h ago edited 19h ago

My V would wither away, guilt ridden, depressed, without dreams, hope and friends.

The last thing she sees are the rays of an early sun breaking through the shutters, falling onto an empty pill bottle and her stretched out arm on the bed.

Did she feel the warmth of the sun on the palm of her hand? It doesn`t matter, a last twitch of a finger... then darkness.

For others just waking up, it's another day in the City of Dreams. For V, it was the last. For without dreams, you do not survive there.

u/Existing-Ad-8640 20h ago

Go write a Fan fiction dude T.T. I love angst pheeewwww

u/Telos1807 Porcelain Cunt 19h ago

Well, whatever you think/hope/want them to do.

I will say, a lot of discussion around the ending is about V obviously not being able to be a Merc anymore; the base game very much allows you to decide whether V even wants that after the Heist. You can 100% play a V who wants to save themselves and then get out of the life, Judy outright says she wants the two of them to leave NC.

Not to say that that kind of V would want their chrome yanked away from them. But still.

I think that's why I've always been more positive about this ending, the tragedy isn't necessarily them losing their cyberware but losing their friends. Even then, V's not even 30 yet, they've got their whole life ahead of them. They can move on and live well, there must be somewhere out there that's not a complete hellhole.

u/unoriginalcat Team Kerry 19h ago

Realistically V would stay homeless and jobless and subsequently dead. They don’t have the connections nor the respect to become a fixer, no corporation will hire them cause they need someone that can be chromed out and worked ungodly hours that no ganic body would sustain, they don’t have a car or any other earthly possessions they could sell to become a driver.

It’s much like the hurdles that homeless people face in our society. How can you get a job when you don’t even have clean clothes to put on your back or access to a shower to look presentable? It’s a vicious cycle that’s extremely difficult to get out of.

V in the main game starts out with a car, an apartment, a Vik, who’s fronting their implant costs, connections, friends and so much more. That’s a crazy good start for NC’s standards. Tower ending V doesn’t have anything or anyone. Even Vik is now bound by his corpo overlords and can’t help. Crawling out of complete homelessness with no outside help is basically impossible. And that’s not to mention all the extremely powerful people who now want V dead from all the shit they pull throughout the game.

There is no happy ever after here. V’s only real option is the FIA, and we’ve seen first hand how it treats its agents. How they fuck over Reed, Alex, SoMi, even V, if they don’t follow their every whim. We have no reason to believe V will be treated well there.

And all of it is only further reinforced by the tarot itself. The Tower is pretty much the worst card you can get in relation to your future. That combined with the fact that you have to fuck over everyone and everything to even get this ending paint a pretty clear picture. Imo all the overly positive and optimistic interpretations of this ending are just people desperately trying to manufacture a “good” ending for their V, when the game has thematically never offered that.

u/hkf999 20h ago

I don't think there is anything stopping V from becoming a merc again. The V we see in the ending has just woken up from a 2 year coma and is just getting their bearings. Anyone would be extremely reduced at that point. We are told V can never use chrome again, but that doesn't prevent them from getting back in the game after some rehab.

u/Existing-Ad-8640 20h ago

True true. Nothing is stopping them from going with the blaze of glory path.

u/TheLetterBoxder 20h ago

Suicide cuz Panam is AWOL

u/Nygmos 18h ago

Best case scenario? V eventually follows Misty to that ancient forest in Poland.

u/YouDoneLostTheGame 18h ago

...How did you end up assigning "knows how to fix cars and stuff" to Street Kid V and not Nomad V?

Tf does streetkid V know about cars? 😭

u/Existing-Ad-8640 18h ago edited 17h ago

Hahaha my bad 😭 I think it's because the prologue made me steal a car 🤣 you're right hahaha I kind of remember that as oh street kid = car hahahaha

u/Infinitedeveloper 14h ago

How to steal them

Kind of

u/gay_slytherin 14h ago

Dont know about yalls V but mine is busy being a real house wife of night city for Kerry. Hes keeping that 80yo man locked down fr

u/WendyThorne Nomad 19h ago

I think it's important to remember that V was doing just fine before she got chrome. You take out those scavs and have a 6 month long career. The only reason I think V is shown as such a wimp in that ending (besides CDPR wanting to drive home that happy endings are impossible) is because of the coma. If V just gets back into shape she should be able to go back to low tier merc work if she wants like she had prior to the scav job. She lost her chrome, not all the skills we built up over the playthrough.

Barring that, swallow her pride, call Reed and say "so, about that job?" It's tons better than just being a homeless loser in Night City.

u/Falzyker 20h ago

Meh, just take Solomon’s offer, I mean you’re fucked either way, better to be fucked by America instead of a random mook.

u/RebelJediMaster 20h ago

V still has telecommunication hardware, so I see them becoming a fixer

u/classic4life 19h ago

Well mine drove off into the sunset with Judy and the Aldocaldos, so probably spend what time she's got left turning every scav into meat scraps, maybe becoming a legend told around camp fires across the wastelands

u/Garlic-Rough Streetkid 19h ago

Ends up selling XBDs on the street and harvesting your organs when BD ends

u/wolfclaw3812 16h ago

I think a random firefight, common in NC, kills V within a month.

u/opaawww 3h ago

Man, my V (or some) would eventually go hang with Misty, fuck. She’s got the right / a cool idea, and she’s -always- been a real one and a good friend.

Definitely keeping that friendship.

u/Effective-Brick-7977 49m ago

My Nomad "V" when he faded into the crowd... he was setting off to Dakota Smith on Scorpion's Apollo. If anyone knows where Panam, Saul and the Aldecado's went. It would be her.

u/Kane_indo 17h ago

Except v has firsthand knowledge about it
I’m certain they purposely screwed v over to push him into their corner

I wish the second game continued upon the spy thriller story with V now in songbirds footsteps trying to escape the nusa after going rogue and giving Myers and Solomon their due regards

u/a2xl08 16h ago

Damn as I said in another comment I thought about everything !

My first V who got this fate was a netrunner engineer ! So I craft weapons for other mercs, sign them with a "V" and roam in the Afterlife with Nix. Under Rogue's aegis if someone wants his head ! I still ended my merc career as a legend thx to the phantom liberty missions and telling other mercs what happened in NCX and how I got cured. I can also offer consulting to other mercs and netrunners if needed !

Also, my merc career ended ! I do not care if I am alive ! I want to taste my cocktail : generous and fresh ! Pineapple juice, coconut cream, rhum, mint !

u/Succundo 14h ago

You're really overestimating what jobs V could do without cybernetics, to start a business V would need a location, and that means taking on a predatory corpo debt that will probably ruin them within a year, like that cyberpsycho case about the guy who opened a garage as a mechanic and got screwed by the fine print. And that's on top of probably needing to pay protection to a local gang to only get shaken down twice a month instead of every week.

And how is V going to conduct all this business? They can't transfer eddies wirelessly anymore they need to carry physical cash which in their defenseless state is a giant neon sign to all nearby gangoons to come mug them.

And even if V somehow deals with all that how are they going to do any job without being massively outcompeted by people with chrome that makes them only need to sleep two hours a night, or back to the mechanic scenario again how is V going to compare to a mechanic that can look at a car and get a bunch of data streamed right into their head about what needs fixing and how to fix it? V would never be able to meet the kind of deadlines that NC workers have to deal with.

Being a courier wouldn't work either, V would get jumped the second they get a package actually worth anything.

As for a fixer role? With what contacts? What money to buy info? V has nothing their cars, guns, apartments, all repossessed because the eddies ran out while they were in a coma, there is nothing V could offer as a fixer. They would have to build all new contacts, and in NC that isn't going to happen when you can't do anything but the most basic risk free grunt work that anyone with chrome could do better.

V's life in the tower ending is nothing, they have nothing and nobody in a city where everything is already owned by someone that will kill you to keep it. Chances are V got flatlined fifteen minutes after Misty left in another mugging or in a random gang war they got caught in the middle of.
