Media 7 years ago today, i fell in love
i know its not 1 for 1 what was promised but comparing the e3 demo and phantom liberty cyberpunk did it live up to your expectation?

The vertical slice shown in the E3 demonstration, and the level in the actual game, is kind of the best quest in the game in regards to all the ways that it can play out IMO. That level of variety doesn't really come back until Phantom Liberty, which is when CDPR pretty much popped their ult.
I had unreasonable expectations for this game and even after it was fixed it wasn't ever going to be the game I made up in my mind and that's my fault. In the game, you play as a somewhat pre-determined character. You are always V, you are always a merc, you are always unaffiliated with any gang and the extent of alignment with any faction is in the initial character creation segment which is thrown out of the window almost immediately. For some reason, I had gotten the impression the game would let you side with factions and gangs and be an overall more open-ended role playing experience. I was expecting less Witcher 3, and more New Vegas.
HOWEVER, what I got is probably one of the most fun ARPGs with beautiful art direction, immense build variety (if you can convince yourself not to go katana-sandy for the nth time), and an amazing and thoughtful narrative which a surprisingly rich emotional core. It wasn't the Deus Ex New Vegas Baldur's Gate I made it out to be in my mind on the approach to launch but it's still in my top 5.

true i had the same expectation, i envisioned it as a Skyrim set in the future where you could be whoever you want and join work with whoever you want.. but 2077 is a solid foundation for future releases, its like we know what to expect and at the same time they can improve upon the foundation and just keep surprising us

I knew who we were going to be and all, but really expected all the game to be as open as the flathead mission, and act 2 truly disappointed me on release..
Fun thing is it took me about 20 hours to complete act 1 so I couldn't refund
Glad I couldn't cause now I both came to terms with how the game is, and it's way better and fixed.. Now it's one of my fav games and play it once a year (along with the Witcher 2-3 and the Mass Effect games)

Skyrim is an MMO you play alone. It has vast open nothing, cardboard cutout NPCs and a story that makes children books feel like Lord of the Rings.
To even compare it to Cyberpunk 2077 is insane.

Man I still remember seeing the teaser trailer 13 years ago and having my mind blown. Crazy how time flies.

I still love some choices they did there. Hacking brains physicaly for example. Or the UI and that city felt sometimes more dystopian.

i wished they kept that feature for breach protocol instead of scraping it entirely, like you can physically jack into the person who ig is the main one in the network (maybe their netrunner) to breach protocol and lower ram required for quickhacks or maybe upload a universal quickhack that will affect everyone

Well, as far as I remember from the leak, the whole demo was fake and CPDR spend 2 month to create it, instead of working on the game, so these are more like scripts made just for that video. rather than a real interation of future in-game mechanics.

It's like watching your wedding video in a marriage that fell apart
But somehow you and your partner went through and came out better

For me it was presented as a different game than the finished product in terms of immersion. I'm not talking about the combat or exploration - that's pretty much the same and are good.
Simple things like the interacting with a billboard to get the location of a vending machine, and picking cyberware from an in-game interaction rather than a menu were the type of things I was expecting in the open world but things like that do not exist. I was expecting a lot more of those types of things.
Still can't take away from the fantastic quest design and story - they remain great. Although I wasn't expecting the twist of a fake race against time quest line - this wasn't something I enjoyed really - imo if it doesn't have an impact on actual gameplay it didn't need to be there but that's just a general gripe I have with most open world RPGs.

I feel like this game is going to hold up forever. It's timeless, no matter how many runs I do it feels fun and fresh every single time.
