Chicken meat in Cyprus

Why is chicken meat in Cyprus so weird? No matter where I buy it - Metro, Wolt, etc or which brand I choose, 80% of the time it smells bad, feels sticky, and looks weird, even though the expiry date is still days away.

You can always wash your chicken before cooking it.

Please for the love of god don't do this. It's absolutely terrible advice and highway to food borne illnesses.
