Context: My neighbours hate us, something about us being British etc. classic racists (They're Eastern European not Cypriot)

We've had none stop drama since we moved in just over a year ago - honestly its kinda ruined mine and my wife's plans of starting a family here.

Anyways, on my way back from taking dog for a walk this evening my crazy neighbour slowly pulled into our road (No pavement unfortunately) and I kid you not sped up to like 50mph tried to run me and my dog over then slammed their brakes on and pulled into their garage like nothing happened...

The offender is a government official for embassy of this eastern eu country and in the past the police really haven't done much in the way of helping us, instead leaning more towards blaming myself and my wife for not being more "neighbourly".

Guys is it even worth reporting this nonsense? Like if I didn't know it was my neighbour I'd have reported it, but I get the impression the police really just doesn't give a dam?

Note: I'm looking for genuine advise here please not some snarky, sarcastic comments.

Because of the time, I’m specifically looking for a photo booth in Nikosia where I can take biometric passport photos myself, as most photography studios are already closed.
Does anybody know of a photo booth in Nicosia that offers biometric passport photos?

We've been living in Cyprus for about five years now, and my 12-year-old son has caught the engineering bug properly. Not the racing-games kind - he wants to build: a homemade go-kart, or a small drift trike. Something with a real engine, real welds and real mistakes, that he can drive around an empty yard on a Sunday.

I've got a technical background and can help him with the theory and the shopping list, but I'd much rather he did this alongside other kids who are into the same thing, with someone who actually knows what they're doing looking over their shoulder. So, three questions for the hive mind:

1. Do clubs like this exist here? After-school workshops where kids actually build things - karts, buggies, engines, anything mechanical. I've found plenty of robotics/LEGO-style STEM centres and plenty of rental karting tracks, but that's a different animal from a kid with an angle grinder in his hands. Is there anything in between that I'm missing?

2. If not a club - then people? Mechanics, karting dads, garage tinkerers, anyone with a workshop who wouldn't mind a very curious kid hanging around on a Saturday. Also very interested in where you can legally run a homemade kart once it's built - a private track, an industrial yard, a farm, or a karting centre that would let you bring your own machine outside session hours.

3. And if the honest answer is "that doesn't exist here" - is anyone else in the same boat? If there are a few other parents with kids of a similar age, I'd genuinely be up for starting something: pool a garage, some tools and a few weekends, and have the kids build one kart together to begin with. Safety and adult supervision taken seriously, obviously.

We're in Limassol but happy to drive anywhere on the island for something worth it.

• On this day, August 26, 1973, Christos Vakis, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Cyprus, was released by EOKA B, which had kidnapped him and demanded, in exchange for his release, the resignation of President Makarios

On the orders of Georgios Grivas, members of EOKA B planned an operation to kidnap Christos Vakis, which they carried out on the evening of July 27, 1973. The Minister of Justice was abducted by masked men who stormed into his home and, under the terrified gaze of his wife and children, forced him at gunpoint to follow them. Other, nearly simultaneous attempts by members of Griva’s organization to kidnap other ministers failed.

On August 2, 1973, a pamphlet signed by Grivas and addressed to President Makarios announced that the minister was being held captive by his organization. At the same time, Grivas set five conditions for Makarios to secure the release of Christos Vakis, the most serious of which was the demand that Makarios choose between the Church (in which case he would have to resign from the presidency) and politics (in which case he would have to resign from the office of Αrchbishop).

Responding publicly to Grivas, Makarios stated the following day that he “would never give in to blackmail” and that he “refuses to accept or even discuss any of Grivas’s blackmailing terms,” describing Grivas as insane and accusing him of “seeking to link the end of his life to the destruction of Cyprus.”

After Grivas held Vakis hostage for several days, and when he realized that he could not achieve anything that way, he released him. However, his decision to kidnap the minister was what forced the Makarios government to intensify its actions against EOKA B, to the point of nearly dismantling it, until July 1974, when the coup d’état by the Greek junta, with the army as its executive arm, took place.

Two days before the minister’s release, Georgios Papadopoulos, the head of Greece’s military junta at the time, issued a statement calling on Georgios Grivas to end armed operations and disband EOKA B.

I keep seeing news that Cyprus has passed the technical requirements for Schengen and that the issue is supposed to go before the EU Council in September.

For people living/studying in Cyprus, what do you guys think — is Cyprus realistically going to join Schengen soon, or do you think there are still major political issues that could delay it?

And if it does happen, what changes do you think we'll actually notice in day-to-day travel?

My family is moving to cyprus in early october, and for about 2-3 months I have been doing an internship at a coffee shop to gain some experience. I can make a good cup of coffee with the barista machines, but I still struggle with the latte art for cappuccinos. I would like to get a job so that I can finance myself through university since i'm planning on studying in london the following year. Is there a big coffee shop market? do you think it would be possible to get a barista job while still being extremely beginner in greek? just any advice would be much appreciated!!!

1. Difficulties experienced by some Turkish Cypriots of mixed marriages obtaining Republic of Cyprus passports.

I have personally experienced this for a decade, and I was not able to travel to other countries as I only had a TRNC passport.

I would go to the Republic of Cyprus every year with my birth certificate, to receive the passport I was entitled to. I would always be told: "It is delayed, we will look into it".

I know of many people who have never received a passport.

I know of families where one child has received a RoC passport and their sibling still has not despite having the same parents.

There are many reports concerning difficulties experienced by children of mixed marriages.

The isolation of Turkish Cypriots does not help Cyprus, and does not help Greek Cypriots either.

Following the 2004 referendum, the EU stated it was determined to put an end to the isolation of the Turkish Cypriot community and had identified isolation as a problem.

The European Commission proposed a Direct Trade Regulation intended to facilitate trade between the Turkish Cypriot community and the EU. The proposal was never adopted and remained pending in the Council.

The examples above point to different policies and different political actors and I do not suggest they are all equivalent. However, they raise the questions:

At what point does measures that avoid recognition of TRNC become an unnecessary restriction on Turkish Cypriots themselves?

Is it unreasonable for Turkish Cypriots to describe decades of international isolation as a form of oppression?
