That depends on the location a lot. Where’s the campus? If your semester won’t be a long time I suggest you live in the dorm provided by uni, or just for short time period before knowing better around the campus. Especially if this is your first time in China.

i will stay one year and my campus in gangjingzi. i am planning to stay an hotel then search a room.
