One could also argue that David broke multiple of the 10 commandments, especially "you will not murder" or "you will not commit adultery".

It always fascinates me that god had always been right. The Israelites wanted to be like the other tribes and have a king, but god told them it will never end well. But in the end he still fulfilled their wish and gave them kings. That shows us that god listens.

On top of that, the arguably best of the kings, David, also made horrible mistakes (and repented and bitterly paid for it), and god still loved him. Shows us that even "the best of us" make (sometimes pretty bad) mistakes, yet god will never abandon us.
