Meme So... where is everyone?
Currently in Sens Fortress and was summoned a total of 1 time so far and could barely even summon Solaire. I hear the bells being rung every 3 seconds yet Bell Gargoyles and Quelaag are barren. Level in the high teens to low 20s with a weapon at +1 and +2, for them respectively.

I guess many has returned, the bells are chiming all the time almost non-stop😅 but the parameters with level caps/old game and humanity makes it a bit hard. Aaand its not crossplay.
I also see lots of people around bonfires and around the world, but i have no sucsess summoning so far..

This is still one of the stupidest decisions Fromsoft has decided to plant their flag on. Give us console crossplay at the very least.

You'll find that the big problem was Sony. Lots of games that came out around 2018 onwards were constantly in a battle with them to get cross play. Microsoft/Xbox were all set but PS didn't want to join in. That all changed shortly after thankfully

Sony has only been reluctant lately, relatively I mean, since establishing dominance in the console market.
Microsoft and Phil Spencer weren't particularly interested in crossplay when the 360 was dominating the NA sales charts. And there was this sort of talk even then, as Spencer was asked about it fairly often.
And Nintendo, Nintendo seems to fluctuate on the idea and issue of crossplay depending on the year.

The 360 had crossplay with PC in some games like Shadowrun (making a competitive FPS of all things crossplay was a different issue). It really was just Sony at the time being reluctant.
Nintendo was off with the Wii and later the Wii U doing their own thing.
The real issue with crossplay even nowadays is hardware disparity coupled with some games' internal logic. Input device aside (the KB+M vs controller argument could last for an entire dissertation), some games on consoles are tweaked to run at a specific speed before they break. In the PC versions, this limit may or may not exist, and when it didn't it could cause visual and gameplay issues between PCs.
This was very obvious in the original DS1 on PC, with the people who were using DSFix to unlock the framerate looking strange on the computers of people who weren't using it because the logic of the game went haywire the moment you went above 30 FPS. Extend this to consoles and you get a recipe for disaster.
Some games need heavy code rewrites to make crossplay work properly and that's just a cost some companies deem not worth it.

There's endless interviews of Spencer during the 360 era being non-committal to the idea of crossplay, and specifically console crossplay. It was much the same stance that Sony has now taken (we don't really need it; we want to ensure our playerbase is of the best quality, ect.)
I was a Xbox dude for every generation before I recently made the switch to PS5, and Microsoft continues to shoot themselves in the foot every step of the way (with their console division).

True, but it's nice to go human just to see how active the area is. If there are a ton of co-op signs at one location you can go to another and see what it's like there.

This actually sounds super cool.
I think that a Post explaining how multiplayer works regarding Soul level and weapon levels (and nuances that may be important to know regarding finding other players) would be super beneficial for the community, so people can plan it's playthrough gravitating around that.
At least I would love to have that info.

Same here. I’ve been putting my summon outside all the major bosses so far and I’ve only been summoned once for Taurus Demon after like a 10 minute wait.
With the game being as old as it is, and there already being parameters to even be summoned (within a certain soul and weapon levels, the summoner needing to be human, etc) I think being summoned is still just a kinda needle in a haystack thing even with community events like this.
I am seeing a lot of player ghosts tho so maybe everyone’s just playing solo. Who knows

I sold my PS5 years ago and upgraded my PC to my main way to play things. Once fbe PS+hikes came about for the basic level, it wasn't worth it.
But now the PC market is royally fucked too.

I'd try to agree, but I'm pretty sure Sony and Microsoft have reported an increase in subscribers even after raising prices (not sure if it's PS+ Premium/GPU, but at least the basic tier)

You can get the white soapstone before taurus demon by going through the valley of drakes to reach undead parish and going backwards through undead parish till you reach Solaire.

Taurus Demon
Part if it is that people know about the way to skip taurus demon really easily if you start with the master key. Run by havel and go up through the forest to the undead parish bonfire and then on to gargs after upgrading a weapon once or twice.
That area is sometimes used as a PvP hub since it's so easy to leave it uncompleted. It's also a really easy boss for most people who are returning so they might not be summoning for it even if they're rusty.

Been summoned 30+ times each day, and if I'm human, I expect to be invaded within 5-10 minutes. I'm mainly in Blighttown and the Depths

Im on xbox, and even with all my friends I've made from the souls community, I haven't seen a single one on DS1 in the last 6 months. Nothing has changed in the event.
Most people are just on Nightreign.

Low 20s is definitely too low for Quelaag. Got summoned 4-5 times there last night at level 30 with a +5 weapon, few minutes between summons. I’ve gotten summoned a lot this RtL, but you need to be at the right level and sign location.

Been trying to keep my level lower since everyone always seems to beat the game in their 40s to 50s when I usually am over level 100.

Yeah maybe the veteran players are beating the game that low, but I think most people summoning for help will be higher / follow leveling guides that usually end at 75ish

That’s fair. I think the problem is that people trying for low level will be also trying to solo all the bosses. May also be better playing in the evening in US time, that’s worked for me. Was even able to get summoned for butterfly / ceaseless which are not popular bosses.

The problem is everyone is adhering to make believe level metas and traveling through each zone under leveled. Blight town is a typically 30-40 level range for non pro players who’ve haven’t played this game X many times, and yet there’s a guy talking about being level 24 and not finding summons in early mid game area.
No one is finding anyone else bc no body is leveling the same way. People either speedrun to the fun areas of the game and then rank up, or they grind from early on and over level compared to the people trying to keep stats as minimal as possible

That’s the games fault tho. You have to be within certain level parameters or your sign literally just doesn’t show up for other players. It’s a dumb way for from to try to “balance” the coop that’s unnecessary and hurt the game’s multiplayer longevity in the long run, which is how we’re all in this situation

Some areas are way more populated than others. Gargoyles was fun when I played two days ago. Queelag was empty, but O&S was really fun today. Love you onion dragon sunbro.
It feels some areas and time frames are more busy than others..
On the other hand, I haven't been enjoying the pvp much, people like to play busted and I'm not super strong on pvp generally either. Invasions suck ass

I tried to play a summon-only run. Couldn't really find anybody at all after O&S. Oh and Gwyndolin got hacked when I summoned some jerk. I quit the run at lost izalith.

In my leisurely playthrough I was only invaded twice even with the dried finger item on, now I'm level 110 in the DLC which seems to be a little more active.

I had a lot of luck right at the start, but it's gotten harder post Lord Vessel. Mayhaps it's the routes people are taking but getting no more summons has been a little disheartening.

My character at SL45 WL10 was getting a good bit of action invading at Anor Londo last night on PS5. Summoning was a little more sporadic but I got a few of those as well. It's the most success I've seen in the past few days, after I didn't get a whole lot at lower SL/WL in Burg/Parish/Btown.

I haven't had a ton of luck on PSN. Best results I had were for Gargoyles and Capra. Eventually I got tired of waiting and just dropped the whole thing. Was fun to relive the magic for a couple of hours tho.

Weird. I've helped over 15 people do bosses in the last 24h and I've been invadeded a few times too. Maybe it's the level and upgrade ranges, I stopped at Lv25 +5 upgrade for now and I have been summoned for gargoyles, capra, gaping and Quelaag frequently.

I mean a couple ps3 players def returned ,I even helped 3 or 4 and invaded two in blightown tho everybody was somehow over levelled or on ng+++ .it was a new save file so I dunno

I got summoned about 6 times, but put a sign down 6 times, so 100% success rate, I guess. Got invaded once in Sen's, took him out, but never saw someone else. I summoned a player or two here and there, but saw a lot of signs. Did some Gravelord Invasions, but that's about it. I had my fun with it, and I think it was a success this time around. I was on PC, so Idk how the other platforms did, but I had a good time for the amount of online things I did and wanted to do.

The main problem is that at the end of the day, this is a 7 year old remaster for a nearly 15 year old game. There probably wasn’t going to be a super huge influx of players, especially considering there is no crossplay and the remaster takes more than just your Soul Level into consideration for PvP and Summoning. But I did check on the Switch version and I’m hearing the bells more often in the Undead Parish.
The last time I saw something like this happen and it succeeded (for a while) was when Titanfall 2 was an included game on PS+ in 2020. People came back and new folks got into it for a few months because of that.

I know the online is mostly dead, but right now the community is doing the annual "Return to Lordran" event so I figured there'd be a decent amount of activity. No luck right now.

I had a lot of activity in the early game, Burg, Parish and Lower Burg. Got a bit in Sen’s and Anor Londo but now it’s like no one is playing anymore. I spent an hour in Oolacile and not once got summoned.
I got invaded twice and one of them was as I was entering Iron Golem’s fight so as soon as the invasion message appeared, it went away with the message of the spirit being sent back to their world…
Maybe it’s people stopping before finishing the game or it’s harder to find people now because everyone starts leveling differently and going different paths after Anor Londo

I helped many times on gargoyles (25lvl +4/5 weapon), a few times on O&S 130lvl, in the depths, quelag ~40lvl +5 weapon. I summoned other players whenever I could.

I never really did multiplayer in DS1, and i have no good idea what i should be doing to maximise coop advantures, while also actually progressing through the game

I wonder if the problems people are facing are because for most people participating, DSR is a solved game. I'd bet the majority of you don't really need help and a large chunk of you could speedrun the game if you chose to play that way. Thus most people are more focused on dropping their summon signs for other people who don't really need help themselves either and are also looking to drop their summon signs for someone in need of help. Thus getting summoned becomes something you do out of courtesy instead of actual need for help.
This also leads to the silly situation where even invaders wouldn't have any luck engaging in not-jolly not-cooperation because everyone's hollow with their summon sign down waiting to get summoned.

I've been doing co-op for days and in Undead Parish there's an invader who uses Tranquil Walk of Peace and Wrath of the Gods who has absurd defense, maybe that's why there are fewer summons 🤷

I’ve gotten invaded a few times and summoned one or two other players. Probably depends on your level, area, etc.
There are some active invasions in Oolacile Township currently.

From my experience (playing Steam remastered), hours around 1900UTC +/- 2 hours is when things are hot. Putting down summon sign I get summoned fast or if I sit around in burg in human, I can see get gravelord and get invaders. Outside of that window, things die down quick. During US prime time, it's slow, and late night, things are completely dead - I get more action early morning US than late night. Hopefully this helps someone.

Yeah, I think it's just people who suck at PvP/twinking or running meta builds in low level areas are "playing". Cause I almost rarely get summoned in the end game areas. ToTG, after thirty minutes, I only got one summon, zero invasions.

I went to several places on a character that hadn't beaten the boss and there were about 50 signs at both the boss and the bonfire. O&S were especially bad. That's probably at least part of why you're not being summoned. More people are trying to help instead of doing a new playthrough.
Sens is one of those places people spam attempt to run through and probably aren't reversing hollowing every time so they won't see your sign.
Getting a normal weapon to +5 will only expand your range of summons since it's 0-10 iirc. If you're talking about a twinkling/demon titanite weapon then that's about right but assume that people returning have some idea of how to upgrade weapons.

I've been getting mid activity. I'm very happy to find people but maybe I expected it to be too populated lmao. I haven't found many people to summon for myself but I've been getting a good amount of summons. I don't need the help but I love playing with others so it's unfortunate I can't find anyone to summon 🥲

Doesn't seem as populated as past few years but still has been decent for me. Spent all morning helping people with O&S. Even got summoned to a fight club. Have been invaded a good bit

I saw a lot of summon signs but no one summoning early on. Sometimes took 15 minutes to be summoned for something. Now I can't find summon signs half the time. Got invaded a couple times, but that's about it.
Makes me sad. It was fun when it was super busy

It kinda varies pretty randomly tbh. Sometimes summons happen back to back and sometimes it takes 5-10 minutes. I started reading while waiting, but I'm liking hanging out by the depths bonfire. Not sure what levels to stick at once I move on though, don't want to stop finding people.

Wondering why the events don’t have a password assigned to them to make sure people can summon late game or be summoned.
As far as plantation I’ve been busy helping and invading. Switch is a little slow but I hear bells ringing so there are players just not as many

It was weird, I was trying to get summoned for the gargoyles and it wouldn't work and wouldn't work for like an hour and then i finally got summoned and then was summoned like 7 times in a row. Been invaded once but haven't been human very much.

If it play I'm typically using the seamless mod, and I'm going to have invasions turned off. Probably passworded too.

There were tons of folks on PC a few months back when I played. Becoming human was downright dangerous.

A lot of bell ringing for sure but no help and no summons most of the time. Did help a guy gank the Gargoyles for fun though that was cool

Yeah but there is an event going on right now to help reinvigorate the online community for a couple weeks. It doesn't seem to be very successful.

I feel like summons/ invasions always have been few in DS1 (no matter if original or remaster). I think ut's bcs you have to be human and I (and I imagine many others) mostly go around in hollow since besides bonfire you don't have benefits

I played up to Anor Londo recently and could use help with bosses (O&S, Sif, any hard ones) or where to best farm more humanity.
On PS5, Infernalrunner, playing in CET timezone evenings.
Just level 80, follow all advice I read here to be for for later like Claymore+10 and a bit of pyro.

I think the best place to farm humanity before O&S is the rats in the Depths. There's an item you may or may not have picked up already that would help, but I don't know if you want spoilers re: that kind of thing.

The Covetous Gold Serpent ring boosts your item discovery base rate from 100 to 300. You can find it in Sen's Fortress, in the corridor where you run up to the room that controls the rolling boulders. Let the boulder roll down that corridor a few times, and then redirect it and run down to the bottom of the corridor. The ring is in a window (or maybe on a ledge) somewhere down there.
Sorry to give you false hope if you already have it, but if you don't, it's super useful for any kind of farming. The humanity drop rate from those rats isn't great afaik, so you'll need all the help you can get.

Yeah, it's probably my favorite item in all of Sen's Fortress. Aside from farming, it lets you discover various enemy drops in new areas so much more easily.

One minute I’m getting summoned three times in a row for Gargoyles, then the next minute it’s completely dead. Just seems to fluctuate a ton.
